New technology is allowing people to visualise what happened during the dramatic Dambusters raid. Members of the public, historians and relatives of those who had taken part in the raid have been given the opportunity to transport to the skies above the Mohne Dam in 1943 thanks to virtual reality at the RAF Museum in London.

My uncle was a pilot in bomber command for lanch and pathfinders He always said that those pilots and crews were faced against incredible odds and successful He said it would have been terrifying but brave lest we forget

I’d love to try this just to get an idea what my uncle bob went through and of course all the other men it’s just incredible to think that they flew through all the tracer rounds and anti aircraft guns 🇦🇺bravely amazing

I fly on a flight simulator in VR called DCS world. Having being in a dogfight over Normandy in a spitfire vs a few fokkerwulf 190's I have nothing but admiration for the pilots who did it for real.

SGT A.W. Buck was rear gunner on Cyril Anderson's crew and their Lancaster ED924 AJ-Y was part of the reserve wave. This particular Lancaster was transferred to Anderson's crew after the original pilot Flt Lt Wilson fell ill. Last to take of they struggled to navigate to the target due to low mist in the Ruhr Valley, now lost, and dawn approaching the crew took the difficult decision to return to Scampton. On return some sympathized with their decision but Gibson didn't and he had the whole crew posted out straight away.
