In April 2024 we walked from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela as a family of five.
Camino Update Day #31
It was tough to get up this morning! There isn’t a Santiago waiting for us, but our home is. We packed up and started to walk again, this time the Camino Portugués heading backwards. We have to get home somehow, and we live south, two days by walking.
So through the rainstorms we hiked.
Thirteen kilometers in we stopped at a village where some friends live. We had tea and coffee with them, shared ideas and dreams about the Camino, and then back into the rain.
We stopped in Padrón, where the boat moored that had carried St. James’ bones from Israel. They were then carried up to Santiago and buried there nearly two thousand years ago. The bar where we stopped had one of the kindest Spanish ladies we have ever met. We will be going back!
After 27.2 kilometers of walking, we got to our albergue and tried to dry out. We have one more day of walking and then we will be home.
Number of pilgrims who finished in Santiago yesterday: over 2000
