What is considered poor form/mechanics with jumping and grabbing a rebound? How can I evenly distribute the load through my body when trying to twist and rip through with the ball?
Why does it hurt?
As mentioned in the prior videos if we land in a rigid/stiff manner there is a reduction of shock absorption and as a by product the small joints in between our vertebrae or the discs the brunt of the load. In fact when jumping from a height of 2 feet the forces can be as much as 2.38 to 4.91 times body weight.
How can I fix it?
So what is the key to solving this problem? Once we achieve the proper flexibility and strength then want to re-train the proper jumping/twisting mechanics.
Here are some key things to think about when jumping and landing on two feet:
-When you land you want to maintain a nice even distribution of trunk, hip, and knee bend
(by doing this we are evenly distributing the forces and loads throughout the active structures vs. passive.)
-Make sure to keep your lower back in a nice neutral position and do not let it extend or round excessively.
-Think land soft.
-Lastly once you got the movement down, throw in the basketball ball and add randomized passes in order to help further build this jumping/landing pattern till it becomes automatic.
Here are some tips for the twisting/rip through movements in basketball:
-As shown in the video we want to use multiple joints in our body to generate the rotation movement.
-When twisting through try and thinking of initiating the movement from the hip ups and achieving rotation from hip, low back, and thoracic spine
-Adding a band around the knees and band around the hand while performing the rip through motion will help activate the gluteals and cores muscles to provide the proper stability around you low back and other surrounding areas to keep you body protected while optimizing tour performance.
