I lifted something heavy with a turning motion and the spasms started. You hit the nail on the head with my problem of lower back pain. Had a shot for inflammation the next day . Two days later pain is down to a 4 or a 5 and only occurs when standing up from a chair or getting out of bed. Your explanation of the muscles around the spine and over the top of the hips is spot on for my situation.

That is so helpful, I am currently on my way from acute to chronic. I now understand that a week of sitting in a chair because the hot weather was too much for me followed by gardening when it cooled down is almost certainly what triggered this pain. I look forward to getting healed enough to start the strengthening but I’m definitely not there yet.

Recommending breaking phases into 1-2-3 is very helpful. Probably mitigates damaging the painful back area. Being born in '63, and being relatively healthy and strong, this is the first I've dealt with almost crippling lower back pain. Thanks for taking the time to produce and post. Also thanks for posting the 2 videos recommended at end of this very helpful video. -Dave (Ashland Virginia USA)

Hi Dave, You're absolutely welcome! Its really great to hear you found the video insightful. And yes. I agree that dividing the recovery process into phases which helps patients understand what the injured area needs at every point of the process is crucial to a timely recovery. I’m 72 and have severe chronic pain from lumbar fusion in 2011. L4, L5 & SI fused with bone grafting. My pain is mostly very low, tail bone and Sac. joints, both sides. I go to a spine & pain Doctor regularly and receive shots, radio frequency and ablation. My nerves radiate down my legs and feet when my pain gets intensely strong. Applying ice and heat does help relieve some of the pain, taken with my prescription, I get relief!

PWG, the approach you use for all your videos is exceptional. Explaining and showing the physical structure of the body then detailing the possible roots causes and then on to clear/simple methods to try to correct issue. There is a lot of "noise" out there with KZbin Physical Therapists but your approach is very welcomed. Thanks

I have been seeing a chiropractor for the last few weeks, trying to fix the acute pain in my back from improperly lifting my toddler, to no avail. I’m 33 and have had three children in the last three years, with a pretty significant Diastasis Recti (4 finger) gap to show for it. I’ve been thinking that the lack of strength in my abdominal wall (due to the gap) is likely causing weakness in my back (in the lower right area that you said is common), but I’m in so much pain I wasn’t sure where to start- I can’t strengthen right now- I can barely move in certain directions. I missed my chiropractor appointment this morning which gave me a moment of pause- maybe I need to try a different approach. Went to google and found your video. Incredibly helpful. When you said most pain is from weakness I immediately paused the video and went and told my husband. It all makes sense now. I look forward to checking out more of your information. Thank you so much for this video. I have hope I haven’t had in a while. I am too young to be so limited in motion and in so much pain!

My lower back started hurting badly over the last couple of days, to the point that I even have difficulty standing up straight or turn from side to side in bed. I am in phase 3. I used to own and worked in a hair salon. I had intermittent back pain, some severe. I had a facial injury (trigeminal nerve damage) it caused terrible pain often keeping me in bed. I still had intermittent back pain. Years later the back pain became chronic even though i was exercising, swimming, and mowing the grass for a few years. Suddenly everything hurt my back and I sweat severely at the same tome. My feet began burning, hair falling out and more. I've learned more from your video then I have from going to Duke University Medical Center for years. Now I have a mission to go through your other videos! I am not one to give up but I have given up a couple years ago. I just have succumb to a life in bed for the most part. I tried to Garden and this year I am only doing perennials. I had to move out of my house into a condo but I will not get a flat I must have stairs because it is my only form of exercise. I had access to a pool and when I was in it it was absolutely magnificent but as I walked out it felt like somebody was piling bricks on my back. Even had dreams that I lived in a pool! I know it's crazy but yeah. Going to try to get my doctors to get me into the pool at Duke now that the covid- stuff is over. My father had a pool that I was using but he has since passed away as did my brother two days later. This was about three years ago. I believe the depression has made everything worse. I'm sorry I'm telling you all this. Thank you so much for this video😢❤

I have been dealing with back pain since I was 16. Just recently it turned into an extreme case. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and unable to walk unassisted for 3 months. Since then I have random flare ups causing muscle spasms, weakness, and numbness in my legs. The doctors said they did not see anything on my MRI that would cause such extreme pain. I am 24 and consistently have to take time off of work because I suddenly collapse. None of this seems normal. I am a personal trainer who specializes in corrective exercise. I am very educated on strengthening the right muscle groups to support my lower back and practice what I preach yet here I am. Stretching will often cause random flare ups as well. My first indicator of my back getting ready to go out is typically tremors in my hands and arms. I’m sort of at a loss in my life regarding my back pain but this video explains the inflammation piece of it so beautifully. I’m going to continue to fight against the American medical system and get fixed in no time 👍🏻😎 thanks for sharing!

Thank you. I'll try daily stretching. I've had backpain since I was 10 years old, but the last year I've gotten worse pain (need to use my arms to get up from a sitting position, looking like my 97 years old grandma). I also got urination problems (feels like I have to go all the time, 30-40 times a day, but it's not uvi) and whenever I need to do number 2 pressing gives insane pain in my lower back, menstual pain, glutes pain and pain all the way down to my knees. I went to my doctor and he thought it might be neurological and gave me sarotex for the pain, but after 5 weeks I still got 70% of the pain. I also went to naprapath, he said my muscles in my whole back were tense and used cupping, massage and unlocked a locking I had between my shoulder blades. It didn't help my lower back pain. 😔 I'm 30, but feels like I'm 80.. Going to try the stretching and walk more. I'm a student so at least 8 hours of sitting daily. 🙈

@@PrecisionWellbeing @PrecisionWellbeing thanks so much Ashley. I did indeed try the stretches and am very happy to report that my back is almost completely back to normal after only a day or two. The explanation that it was really the inflammation that was causing most of the pain made me less fearful of what was happening in my spine so i concentrated on trying to reduce that whilst also staying as mobile as possible and not sitting down for long. I'm a dog-walker and I managed walking 2 dogs for 5 miles yesterday with no excruciating spasms - I never imagined I would be able to do that 3 days ago! The stretches definitely helped me. I also shared your video with a friend who has chronic back problems so hopefully it will help her as well. Many thanks!

You may actually have a vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D deficiencies can cause this kind of pain and in this area. If you're under continual stress, the problem will be chronic because the stress will tax your adrenals which causes low vitamin D as well. Start supplementing with vitamin D3 w/ K and see if it doesn't start to help you within a week or so. It sounds like you need a higher dose like 4000 iud. Many times pain and other ailments are actually caused by vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

The pain was constant during that year, then in the next 5 to 7 years, only occassional pain. However in the latter years up to the present, the pain is rare but when triggered by heavy activities or standing for a long period of time, the pain is there. Now I have an isolated Cervical spondylosis which is more disturbing than my lower back.
