Scott, I don't say this about most people. I've been following you for about 5 years now. Back when you only had about 300k followers. You have been such a huge inspiration to me. I've been following your tips, workouts, and exercises for quite a while. And it had helped me so much in the gym. Watching your channel is one of the reasons I decided to study Kinesiology at college. And, also, I don't know how else to say this and it sounds awful. But sometimes I'll get discouraged when other guys at the gym are bigger than me. I come back to your channel and I get reinspired. Meaning, I see what a natural physique looks like. And no, I'm not saying that every guy who is bigger than me is on steroids. Plus, you got me reinvested in Dragon Ball!
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for all the support Eric! Don't feel down by looking at others man.. if anything, let that inspire you, let it drive you to try and match them or better them. Honestly you should just focus on being the best version of yourself that you can be, but if you are stuck looking at other physiques, you may as well look at turning it into a positive to get you even hungrier!! #DBZ4Life

Thanks so much for this, Scott! I tend to neglect back because, like you said, it’s such a big area, so it’s good to know we only need two different exercises to develop and define it. I feel like I tend to focus on doing many different exercises per muscle group as opposed to fewer exercises with more reps/more sets, and it’s a relief to know that’s not the only approach (or the best approach!). Anyway, thanks again!
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
You’re very welcome Kristen! No need to over-complicate things. Fewer of the better exercises is an amazing way to train, and super efficient too!

Pretty hard to only use 2 exercises for shoulders. I'd say overhead press and lateral raises but you certainly need one for rear delt work. Anything goes for the abs.
@marusdod36856 жыл бұрын
snatch grip btn press Rear delts already get worked out in these exercises shown in the video
@yanni-duff6 жыл бұрын
+Marus Dod Hardly, that's like saying barbell rows work the lower back - they obviously do but you still have to do GHD's or good mornings etc. Isolating the rear delts is the best way to make them grow and get them proportionate to the front ones. Doing facepulls for example is great for shoulder health, it reinforces good posture and also works the rotator cuffs thus preventing injuries down the line.
@marusdod36856 жыл бұрын
snatch grip btn press Lol what, you're telling me rows don't work your rear delts. Try flaring your elbows out a bit when doing the movement, you will feel it a lot

I just did this today. I didn't add the weights just yet to the pull ups because I know I wouldn't have been able to do them properly otherwise, but after those 8 sets of T-bar rows I was DONE. I thought I'd be able to do more exercises, but I was exhausted to the max. Great work out. I do feel curious as to why it's easier for me to do 10 reps 180lbs lat of pull down, but when it comes to pull ups I can barely get to 5 and I weight around 155-160lbs. Can't wait for other muscle work outs!
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
Pulldowns might be easier because you are just moving the weight that is in front of you. When you're doing a pull-up, the weight your moving shifts and is directly underneath you.

Ok serious questions. Hard to explain. Whenever I’m doing Hammer Curls or dumbbell curls....towards the middle and end of my sets I get a strange indescribable feeling on the INSIDE of my forearm right about in the middle. It doesn’t really hurt but it isn’t a pleasant feeling either. It only happens when my arm is coming down after the curl. I have been trying to figure out what it is using Google...but most people talk about about either wrist pain our elbow pain. Any ideas? Also...whenever I do certain shoulder workouts and OCCASIONALLY benching....I get some pain right where my chest and shoulder meets. Like right in between. It isn’t like “OMG I need to stop.” It’s more like “This kinda hurts BUT I got to finish this set” type of hurt. Anybody know what these 2 things could be?
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
For the shoulder/chest issue, it's probably that you aren't packing your shoulder blades properly when benching. Watch this - How To: Dumbbell Bench Press | 3 GOLDEN RULES kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5Caknunjcp2nLM For the forearm, you say it doesn't really hurt.. so it's more like a tight feeling? It sounds to me like it's just the forearm contracting, it will burn when you're gripping the dumbbells or bar super hard. If it's only on those exercises too, it might not be serious.. if it was constant pain, it might be. If you need to, try doing the grip I talk about with your thumb OVER the bar, not around it, and see if that helps. Keep in mind I'm not a doctor.. if it's a serious injury that you're concerned about, go and see a professional.
@mentonerodominicano6 жыл бұрын
I get that same feeling in my left forearm! It's pretty annoying and doesn't let lift as much as I can.
@Sathea6 жыл бұрын
Tendonitis? Late reply but I have it between my forearm and middle biceps. Only feel it during hammer curls.
@Fortunaatp6 жыл бұрын
@@mentonerodominicano for you and OP, it's because you're gripping the dumbbells too hard. I had the exact same problem. Also, when doing lateral raises or similar exercises, don't ever have a completely straight arm, try and keep a consistent bend in your elbow. To adjust, you may have to reduce the weight you're lifting, but it will improve your form and you'll see better results regardless as more of the weight will be concentrated on the desired muscle group. Hope this helps

What is your opinion on the farmers walk as a workout? I do it quite often as I see others do it from time to time. But I do not know if it is effective or not. What part of my body does it even work?
@AndresMartinez-fk6cj6 жыл бұрын
Matthew DRB they work your traps for the most part, but they are also great for forearms and grip strength
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
Well the farmers walk is much more than traps. As long as you are going heavy as possible, the instability you create as you walk will MASSIVELY engage your core, train your grip/forearms and even your delts will be worked as well. I recommend using wrist wraps to lift as heavy as possible.

What exercise is recommended for targetting the lower lumbar region just below lats? In spite of solid pull-up and row work that area always seems flabbier than I'd like it to be.
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
If it’s flabbier than you’d like, that’s a fat issue, and you just need to trim down. Maybe get into a deficit? Post in my forums for help. www.MuscularStrength.com/forum

I also find the seated row close grip another good alternative to the T-bar for some older guys like myself. Great vid...
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is good! But I would rate the T-Bar row over the seated row if you can do it!

About 3 weeks ago I injured my neck by waking up and lifting my head off of my pillow. It was a gassy pop on the right side of my neck in the middle. That caused immense tightness and extreme pain. I wasn’t able to turn to my right for about a week and a half, I used ice and heat to ease the muscles. it just recovered a few days ago so I’m still cautious even though there’s no pain. I currently am turning my entire body when I turn, walking like a damn penguin. When it happened I was in excruciating pain whenever I’d remove pressure off my neck. I had to grab my neck with all my strength to stop the neck muscles from moving so I could burst myself up with momentum to move. My head was at a hard slant for a few days. Got to a point where I couldn’t eat or drink because my neck muscles are activated by that and would case crazy amounts of pain. And now the side that got injured is slightly tight even now that it’s recovered. But there is no pain. So you know any neck exercises and/or stretches? I’d like to prevent this from happening again. I lost my job because of it. I got a new bed and pillow along with a neck pillow because my doctor said it was caused by “weak supporting muscles not being ready for the load of the head weight” so basically my bed and pillow snapped my neck up because my neck muscles are weak. He recommended i work in resistance training and balance but he didn’t mention how.
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
Wow that sounds awful. Sorry you had to go through all that. I actually have an entire video about resistance training for your neck. For your situation, I’d say start off by just doing bodyweight exercises to avoid putting too much strain on the area as you build up strength. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKKTh2l7n8uSjqs Post in my forums if you need more help! www.MuscularStrength.com/forum

hey scott quick question, i’m 15 years old and been lifting for about 6 months and i’ve made good gains as a soccer player. i haven’t noticed much growth in the last couple weeks and i’ve been going full body workouts 3-4 days a week and seems i have stopped making gains, maybe i need to change up more. how can i make gains should i switch to push pull legs or bro splits or what? i could use your advice it is appreciated thanks!
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
If you aren’t noticing growth, you probably aren’t eating enough my bro. So address that first. If you’re not already, PPL would be a good program to switch to as well to maximise frequency of training. Looked at my split? muscularstrength.com/Push-Pull-Legs
@bradyr67316 жыл бұрын
i eat a lot like 4 big meals a day and snacks 😂 i’m a growing boy. i’ll try one of your programs. is cheat and recover the best option for an athlete looking for maximum gains who can only train 3-4x per week
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
Eating big meals and eating enough are two different things 😉 and no.. for you I would say go with the PPL program which you can still use 3 days a week. There’s no need for you to implement C&R yet at 15 and a relative newbie. Save it for later 👍🏻

Should I be splitting the t bar row between the close handle and the longer v handle where your arms are out more? I feel it in different areas for each handle I use
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
I would stick to the close handle if you’re doing these two exercises. You’ll get the wider grip with pull-ups.
@naturalhulkster62466 жыл бұрын
I think you nailed it with the specific emphasis on overloading these back exercises especially with the T-Baaaahhhh row! Good stuff man, thanks!
