Join me this week as I finally get back out there and go on a little truck camping adventure. This time around, I'm back to a basic setup (for now). Snowy hiking, good food, and of course - good coffee as per usual!

Do not cut off the carpet from the tailgate! Just un Velcro it and fold it in when it is not wanted. The BedRug is amazing. If you end up using Reflectx for insulation over the windows, spray glue speaker box material to the Reflectx. By not having the Reflectx directly against the glass you will not get cold induction through the reflectix and you will have much better insulation.

I'd just throw down anything like a tablecloth or tarp?
@arlenewolf5260
@arlenewolf5260 Жыл бұрын
@@patsykluting-lucas3804 The BedRug when correctly installed is installed with special Velcro tabs. All you need to do is to carefully pull the tail gate portion off the Velcro tabs and and fold it back inside the bed when you want the tailgate for a work surface. The Bed Rug is an amazing product, I would never alter it, it comes contoured to the bed surface, adds a reasonable "R" value and great comfort especially to your knees.

@@arlenewolf5260 yes the tailgate uncovered would work for food prep and cutting fish. Maybe use a cutting board.

If for some reason his doesn’t Velcro off, he could probably cover it with a plastic-like material (thick mil) or rubber type silicone sheet, etc. Then can put a larger chopping block on top of that if desired.

I want add my agreement that your story telling and creativity is the reason you’re successful here. Camping is the focus for us but your adventure getting it done and how you tell the story is why we stay and watch. I like it all, refurbs, trying new set ups, and resolving to get out there anyway you can, it’s all good

Someone said you might want to emulate aspects of Steve Wallis’ style. Nahh. Steve is Steve and it works for him, unique to his personality, background and choice of narrative style. I really enjoy your unpretentious but sophisticated production values and relatable scripts. That’s right, RELATABLE. Keep it up, you are YOU and so far it’s a winning formula.

It's tragic that you spent the time, money, and resources to get something that was so cozy and accommodating just to have the disparagement of knowing that it didn't work out the way you'd hoped. I can understand your being tired of a project but it's nice to see you enjoying yourself, and I certainly hope things eventually work out with the shell because you put in a lot of effort into that and it may eventually be worth your time. Actually, the best part of your channel is you, your attitude, you're cooking, which is exceptional, your adventures, and that includes the refurbishing of that shell I hope eventually works out.

Maybe do the refurb on another channel, in between camping trips on this one. I’d subscribe to both. That looks very cozy, certainly fine for one person and for maybe shorter adventures. Big advantage with the topper is low weight, no complicated systems to maintain or troubleshoot, no issues with freezing lines in cold weather and of course it comes at much lower cost. If you need more room/privacy and weather shelter you could consider a tent extension to attach to the back.

Loving the simple setup. Just a suggestion... Don't cut off the carpet on the tailgate. I would simply throw in a small table so you can do all your cooking/fish cleaning/etc. Plus, in cold weather you can leave the tailgate closed up and the buddy heater running inside. Cook outside in the cold, but then you have a warm place to eat, and sleep. That recipe! I will be making that very soon! Perfect for camping! It really looks delicious!

Hey there, Jonathan. I hope you're doing well. That's exactly what you needed. It was to get out there and enjoy your surroundings, take in all the nature and its glories. Now, maybe you will move forward on your project and be more relaxed at it. I hope all goes as planned for you and you reach all your goals. You're an awesome guy with an awesome KZbin channel. Keep up the good work. Oh, one little tip with the carpet in your truck. Don't wear your shoes inside on the carpet. That way, it will stay clean. I mean, ya sure, you will have to vacuum, but it won't be all nasty like it would be with the nasty from your shoes. You can get a boot tray they have on Amazon cheap to set your shoes on when you take them off. Thank you for sharing and for all the hard work and time you put into your videos. Keeping it simple is definitely the way to go. I mean the entire reason we have rigs like this is to have a shelter over our heads when in the backcountry. I was planning on building a brand new AWD Ford Transit this summer and decided to bail on the idea and got a f350 with a old 1986 Four Wheel Camper instead. I didn’t want to spend the entire summer building a rig and not getting out much here in Colorado. I love how I just tossed it in the back and now have a home. There’s definitely something to be said about having your own DIY projects and completing them but to me I want to be outside exploring and rock climbing as much as possible. Good choice buddy! See you out there. - Andy on the mountain

Hi Jon, not having the kind of insulation you need especially for winter, you said that the cover on the tailgate you expect it to get dirty, instead of cutting it off, why not keep it but place a measured piece of plywood or floor boards. The plywood you can stain a beautiful mahogany, that you can wipe off. Your dishes look yummy. Also for your audience, rice should be washed, there's times you find little bugs in it. You will need window coverings. Happy camping!

Simplicity can be awesome, Jonathan. Most viewers cannot afford the campers, the RV's or trailers. What you have in the truck is perfect. However, I might bring g some extra blankets or invest in a minus degree sleeping bag. I had a zero degree bag in my van but on some nights the extra wool blankets surely made a difference.

You should get a big canvass tent and do some homestead style camping in more remote areas. I have a pickup truck with a canopy and when I go out camping I’ve got full on glamping setup. String lights, big dining table comfy camp chairs, 2 cots, a solar shower and shower tent. Just came back from 5 weeks in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. Epic trip. One thing about using a camper in sub zero temps is that even without leaks there is an insane amount of condensation. If you’re using propane heat the condensation is twice as bad. A diesel heater is much much better. But honestly I think you should morph into a glamping channel. Go to Idaho and float down some rivers and check out Wyoming. Just some ideas. Safe travels.
