Do a load a day to keep, ‘Mt. Washmore away’ is a perfect plan. Some days I search for something to wash! We are never searching for something to wear. Turning the dishwasher on before bed and unloading it fist thing in the am keeps my kitchen sink empty. All of Marla’s tasks take such a small amount of time. Still working on it but my life is so much more manageable-don’t be in a hurry just do it; it works!

I’m so glad you mentioned “don’t climb on furniture”. My mother, in her early 60’s, stood on a dining chair to reach a key on a high hook. As she was stepping off she fell backwards onto a concrete floor, put her hands out to brake the fall, but broke BOTH of her wrists!!!! That is one of the worst things to happen to a person. For 6-8 weeks she couldn’t turn on a tap, lift a kettle, dress herself, prepare food, open the refrigerator, operate a broom, drive, open a car door, tuck herself into bed or go to the bathroom unassisted, just to name a few. It was like being a baby all over again. Use a sturdy step ladder with a handrail and hold onto it until you are safely on the ground.

Once we reach a certain age, standng on chairs, stairs, whatever, it's a NO NO. Get someone to help you! Sorry about what happened to your mother. Not being able to use your hands is a nightmare!

I just shined my sink! Newby here! I'm dressed in my Jean skirt because it makes me happy and I'm wearing lace up shoes which feels odd with the skirt but I'm rocking it anyway. My house is a wreck, dishes piled on the counter, but my sink is shiny and I'm ready for the next step. What's next? Maybe a 27 fling boogie.

I was just browsing through older videos, since I just joined...Whoa. laughed at this! My dining room I can declutter... I have a jacket and that's all in my entrance, and the only coat I own is in my closet... but I can't throw away a flower pot from the front porch, because I don't HAVE any flower pots! There's nothing out there except the post that holds up the roof! LOL

An injury can derail you and just isn't worth cutting corners to try and save time and effort. Stairs are everywhere here, in Northern VA/DC area. We have these 3-story homes. I am ready to move into a mid-century ranch home just because I am a klutz on stairs if I'm not focused. I am in great shape, too, because I work at a gym, but I know how an injury or illness can really set you back. So SAFETY always. Use a very well-made step ladder, protect your back by using good cleaning tools (like the multiwand with the mop handle) and clean as you go, rather than all at once.

Thank you for starting over again, day 1. I've got behind due to injuries. I'm in CHAOS. However, there are facial cleansers out there that do not cause sensitivity. Now is the time to not be washing your face with just water. Holler out to me if you need some help finding a cleanser. I have found some that work that are organic. Not sponsored. Vaseline contains petroleum. You DO NOT want that on your face. Xo to all!

Pamela Baker Put what on your lips? If you're talking about petroleum jelly, that's THE WORST! Just go drink Roundup as well. This woman is so bossy and gives advice and "educates" us on cleaning products that are dangerous. Educate yourselves, guys.

Don't use blistex...it strips the top layer of your lips off nothing with phenol..."silicones, mineral oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, dimethicone, petroleum, and paraffin are occlusives they increase the water content of the skin by bolstering the barrier and regard the evaporation of water from the surface. Best used to treat superdry spots or chapped lips...most effective when applied to damp skin.." per Dr weschler. Dermatologist...P.S. when you make comments about flylady...remember this. "What you say is a reflection of yourself."..love and light to you

Pamela Baker Can't relate. I'm holistic. I use a Naturopath, a Homeopathic practioner, and an Aromatherapist. End of. And what Fly Lady says goes for her too. It reflects on her, so DO NOT lecture me when she had the balls to act like a pissed off ole lady the other day and talk to us like little kids and say " I swear to God I'll shut this down over negativity..." Really? She didn't use to be that bitchy so I've followed her for ten years. Just got the new calendar. Should have sent it back. I'm done. Go sit on your high horse.

I am disabled from a cervical spine injury. Sometimes when I try to do even the top 3 basics I can get a huge flare up and have so much pain I’m bed ridden for a few days to a week... I’m getting really depressed because I can’t keep up with my husbands and toddler’s mess. My husband is bipolar .. and recently discovered he might be a narcissist too - so he feels no real empathy for me And doesn’t help at all.. when I have no flare ups I can stay on track and it feels wonderful- then I get bedridden and I have a huge mess again.. 😳🤯

Pequena Butterfly, I don't have a spine injury but I have a multiple medical disability that includes fibromyalgia, gout and undifferentiated connective tissue disease. I know exactly how the flare-up situation can send me to the sidelines, and I feel for you. But... the nicest thing about FlyLady's system is its adaptability. I forgive myself for what I can't do, and start wherever I am, and DON'T try to do extra or "Play catchup" because I am NOT behind, I'm just here. I also have set my timer for 10 minutes instead of 15, because it seems to work better for me in smaller doses. I call them my 10 by 10s, or my mini-routines. 10 minutes on active stuff, and 10 minutes off or on sitting-down stuff. And an hour for preparing each simple meal. On really bad days I can even incorporate a nap for a few hours, as needed. I wonder if a similar idea would be a good "prescription" for you... set your own times, even if its just 2 minutes. You may surprise yourself at how much gets done in 2 minutes. And by the way, don't do it for your hubby or family. Just like Marla says, we Do it for OURSELVES, because WE deserve a lovely, tidy, easy to clean and peaceful home! Anything we can do will also bless our family, especially when they see how we can learn to manage, and maybe learn by example themselves. No bitterness, no coercion, just a whole lot of love... :-)

@Pequena Butterfly I used to have SEVERE chronic fatigue. I had it for 8-1/2 years before I found a cure. It wasn’t overnight. I found it was due to my adrenals. They were severely stressed for years and a multi car pileup accident was the onset of the chronic fatigue. My body hit the last straw with that and shut down. Though I am well and have been for years, I still am careful to not fall back into that trap of bad health again! Anyway, when I was at my worst, and it was REALLY bad, like living in a prison, I would tell myself ONE THING on my worst days. That could be loading the dishwasher, or unloading the dishwasher, but NOT both! It could be putting in ONE LOAD to wash, and that’s it! The next day I can dry it then sit in the bed and fold, then have the children take their clothes to their rooms and put away when they came home from school. But yes, on my worst days, just ONE THING. It worked. And my husband would remind me NOT TO OVER DO IT ON MY GOOD DAYS! I would be sooo happy on those days because it was a reminder to me that I did not choose my condition and I was not lazy! I got all kinds of things done on good days and I was so happy! But he was right, and it would knock me back and I wouldn’t be able to get out of the bed for the next 3 days. And I had 4 small children to take care of then. So you have to do what your health can handle. Some days, on your worst days, that is only ONE THING. And that’s okay. You can go to sleep at the end of the day with the satisfaction that you DID DO SOMETHING that day! 😊
