One of the best videos I have ever watched. A golf coach getting coached AND on putting! Like you said, it just goes to show you that you can't watch your own swing to see the breakdowns and fixes needed. Laughed out loud on the foot cramp and that guy is a dead pan dry comedian on top of it!

Totally agree, Stephen. I lost a lot of respect for Mark Crossfield when I heard he decided not to attend Rick Shiels' charity event. MC has no problem playing courses all over the world with his posse to promote his golf travel company but can't seem to find the time to play with fellow youtubers for a worthy cause. Boo on him and kudos to James (and many others) for stepping up to play.

Had a putting lesson last year from former 4 x Solheim Cup player Iben Tinning and it was fantastic. Actually having another one next week. Easiest way to shave strokes off your game and much easier to implement than full swing changes. Highly recommended

Must admit, I switched this off the first time. I then went back and watched the whole video. Restricting the backswing has got me my old stroke back. Thanks guys.

The two things I worked on this last week with my putting? Hands higher to align arms with the shaft and stroke-not-hit. What a coincidence. I played difficult greens Saturday and definitely saw a difference. Thanks for the validation! I definitely need to work on having a consistent ball position every putt as well. Great video!

Loved this! I’ haven’t had a putting lesson since I was 18 and have no real developed technique of my own. I just go by feel! All I can tell you for sure is ... 1) I’m a pendulum style putter. 2) there is a quite a bit of toe flow in my stroke. 3)there is little to no hit in my stroke. I’m going to video myself putting next chance I get and see how I compare! I’m feeling an online putting lesson in the near future! Awesome video!!!

Fair play to you James, as a Pro you were not shy to go see Chris Ryan and have a lesson and here again with the other Chris. There is a reason why Tour Pros have Coaches who travel around with them to keep their game fine tuned. My putting is usually fairly good but i have had a putting lesson...we should all try and improve i think. One question would be, how much time do we practice putting? In a round you could be having 30+ putts but im sure many of us spend 30-60mins on the range and 5-10mins putting before stepping on the tee...

Good video. I had a couple of putting lessons a year or so ago and it improved my putting no end. The best tip I got on tempo was to think ‘tick-tock’ tick on the backswing and tock on the through swing. Make sure they are both the same speed each word. Not tiiiiiiick - tock as I used to do, far too long a backswing. Bear in mind up to 40% of your strokes may be with the putter so with the investment.

I got a putter fitting and lesson last season. Broke 80 for the first time. 8.5 handicap over my last 24 rounds. My iron game needs quite a bit of work. I only hit about 8 greens in regulation. Its amazing how low you can get around with a decent short game and putting.

After downing a pint or two while foot tapping to the Dubliners I rewatched your lesson from Chris. The first time it really registered, especially the arm/shaft alignment coupled with the slight forward shaft lean. I tried it a few times last round and found it helped. Now that I’ve watched it a second time and the greens keepers have been able to cut the greens I think I’ll drop a few strokes from the handicap. I did add a bit of weight shift to the front foot to keep me from leaning back...SCORE!!!

Hi James, everyone wants lessons on how to hit the ball 300 yards...no good if you 3 putt ever green. Putting lessons are so underrated. I've had one and I can honestly say I got more out of that one lesson than all my long game lessons . I was already a very good putter but just a few tweaks has reduced the amount of 3 putts to just a few a season.

James this is one of the best videos I've seen on here. As for taking putting lessons? I've only taken one and I didn't find it that good, I got the feeling that the so called teacher was more interested in selling me a new putter rather than getting me better with the one I had. It seems that most so called teachers are attached to the pro shop and are more interested in selling rather than teaching
@stuartjames19715 жыл бұрын
I didn’t realise that a shorter follow through meant it was a better stroke than a long follow through. The likes of Tiger Woods or Rickie Fowler have the short follow through and I look at this as thumping the ball towards the hole. Giving it a hit rather than striking or stroking it. Good video this. I’m going to work at this. High hands, ball back a bit in stance and stop the follow through. 👍🏻⛳️👍🏻
@ChrisDennisGolf5 жыл бұрын
Stuart James -Professional Singer Hi Stuart, yes that’s what a lot of people think. And I certainly did when I played. But you will find that the energy transfers better from a putter that is swinging. You will notice with Tiger and Ricky if you had a box drawn around their trousers 👖 you wouldn’t see there hands travel outside of then even on longer putts. We will have a video to follow soon about pace putting which will explain this further 👍👍

25%+ of my work with my coaches is on putting technique and drills. I add in specialist sessions every 3-4 months - I have a full day at Formby Hall this summer, 2 hours with Mike. I will also seek to ensure that my putters fit whatever my stroke ends up being - over the last 18 months - I have been as short as 28.5” and slowly with changes to my set-up - more elbows back and in - we have added 2” to the length - at 74 degrees the lie is quiet upright. I am using a 430g head weight putter and am playing with various grip weights - currently 75g - giving me a putter weighing over 600g. This has helped provide less face rotation and more stability, where I have suffered from wobbles.
