Back to birds, practising gouache painting in my sketchbook

Last week I got the opportunity to set up a stall at a local nature reserve and it was an awesome opportunity. I enjoyed meeting lots of new people and local creatives, as well as getting to watch lots of birds at their feeding station. All the bird watching has got me thinking about my bird project and how far behind I have gotten on it. In this video I will show you how I panted these quick paintings of a kingfisher in my sketchbook. I have been experimenting with faster ways of working and although they are not in my usual style, I enjoyed the proses and the speed in which I filled the pages. I hope you enjoyed the process and maybe have learned something new!
I used Winsor and Newton gouache, Neocolor 2, coloured pencils and a Royal Talens art creations sketchbook in this video.

Hi, new subscriber here! I feel you on the gouache. I think you put it well: when you use it right, it looks fantastic. But it is SO easy to mess up! Yes, you can (to an extent) go over it. But then you can overwork it. Ah, gouache...I just can't quit you. But using neocolors on top is a great idea.

Yea I think a lot of people know that feeling. Its just easy to mess up with gouache but I think it’s worth trying. yea the neocolor work surprisingly well with it. They have a similar consistency to each over wen wet so you can get a nice smooth transition between the two. Hope it goes well if you give it a go! 😊
