Can you give advice on what to do if you have a bad teacher? For example my chemistry teacher for gcse is really disorganised and sometimes misses out lessons and forgets what we have done the last lesson. That would be really helpful xo

Past papers and example questions are good ways to revise for maths. I'd suggest you practise as much as possible. It would also be a good idea to try to memorise as many formulas as you can if you're sitting the higher paper in or after 2017. (It's not as important with foundation, but you may still need to learn some.) x

I study French and Spanish at A Level (going into year 13) now and I absolutely love the grammar! At GCSE you just learn like set phrases and vocab, at college you're actually learning how to form and speak the language! You will not believe how much your language abilities grow in the next year. After GCSE I could not have had full conversations with people in either language, this year I went on holiday where I met some French people and I successfully translated the conversation for them and the rest of the group. Languages at college are the best thing I've done :)

You're so lucky!! I was hoping to do both French and Spanish at A level but they're not offering French A level at my sixth form which broke me so I'm just doing Spanish A level :( only my best friend and I are doing it though so exciting! Ah man that really sucks! I love French so that's super sad :( you can carry on learning outside of college if you want though! Wow, as if only 2 of you are doing it! That will be fun but it's a shame more people don't! At the end of GCSE I probably could have held a brief conversation in French but certainly not Spanish. Now after AS Level my French is still much much better than my Spanish, (I'm just naturally better at it and also I have studied it slightly longer), but now I could definitely have a decent conversation with a Spanish person. Your abilities will definitely improve and the great thing I found about languages at 6th form was that they started right at the basics with grammar- started with present tense, then future, conditional, etc. I was worried I wouldn't be good enough for A Level Spanish so it was a huge relief to start doing basic grammar! (I adore learning new grammar- when you get to using the subjunctive in conversation it's like the most exciting thing ever haha!) The only thing you use from GCSE is your vocab, a good knowledge of grammar wasn't required :) In a year you will be amazing at Spanish speaking, and doing just Spanish in that sense will be an advantage because you can practice it more. Before my speaking exam for French, me and my friend rang eachother every day for 2 weeks to practice- I ended up with full marks in that speaking exam. Nobody in my Spanish class would do that with me and as a result I didn't do so well. So it also depends on how much time and effort you're willing to put into it :) But if you love languages and want to get fluent, you'll want to work hard and so you'll do amazingly well :) xx

I know teachers will say this but honestly don't pick options just because your friends are picking them because if you hate the lesson, you won't enjoy your year. My mum advised me to pick things I enjoy or things that are quite relaxed because your main gcses are the ones you have to do e.g. English.

I went into year 10 and 11 stressing about exams, teachers and coursework but once I got into the swing of things and my timetable became more consistent the work became so much easier. The exams became a lot easier and just remember your grade in an exam doesn't define you, there are so many jobs out there nowadays where your exams don't count! Good luck in year 11!

For context, I got A*s in biology, chemistry and physics at GCSE (I actually got 100% in all my GCSE science exams) - and at AS level I got an A in physics and an A in chemistry, and at A level I got an A* in physics. I also got an A* in GCSE maths, and an A* in both A level maths and A level further maths 😊 I'm going to be making "how I revised GCSE science" videos, and I'm already halfway through making a GCSE maths revision series! 😊 Also good luck x

I'm going into my third year of college (failed the first year!) and I did Spanish in my first year of college, got an A in the subject at GCSE with full marks in my reading exam and it was my favourite subject, came to A Levels and I got a grade U. A levels are a whole different kettle of fish (so to speak) if you don't put the effort in, stick to your deadlines and ask for help when you're struggling you'll find it incredibly hard like I did. Came to my second year and got 2 B's and a C as my A levels. I'm doing Literature and my tip for you is to not only read the book but search a lot of different sources about the text and different interpretations! Good luck :)

I'm going into Year 11 and all I'd say you should do is try to get into a regular habit of writing up your notes from your lessons neatly (or if you don't make notes in class, make some notes). This will get you into a habit which should help for when you actually need to start revising. x

You with English Lit was exactly how I was with Chemistry. I hated it through year 10 cause I had a rubbish teacher and so I didn't put much effort into it. I changed teacher in year 11 and started realising I really enjoyed it and wanted to do it for A-Level so I started working so much harder and came out with an A* after getting a D in my year 10 end of year exam!
