Just want to add a bit of motivation/positivity from my perspective- A levels can seem like they are going to be impossible and seem sooo much work and as if they are never ending.. but trust me you CAN get through it! I thought I would never be able to learn everything and I would never get the grades I wanted, but I managed to pull through and surprise myself. Yes it's not easy and the weeks before the actual exams were one of the most stressful times of my life... but it's now all over and I came out with grades that I am really proud of, and now the stress of A levels seems like a distant past time that I have forgotten about (lol how deep) It does end, and if you put in the work you will surprise yourself at what you can do!

You had to do that anyway😊I did lit this year and got an A😀Best way to remember quotes is to write them on post it notes or colourful pieces of card and stick them EVERYWHERE in your house and i mean EVERYWHERE😂I had a few on my ceiling above my bed, the TV, the microwave, the front door etc. This way you see them when just caring on with life and learn them with 0 effort as in like opening a book. It helps soooo much to do that. I remembered every single quote I needed to know and more because i decided to write more quotes than was needed. Hope this helps

@lizzip88827 жыл бұрын
Lucy Roberts I'm not eve obviously lol but I can give you some advice on GCSE options from someone who is in year ten: please please please know what you like, and know what you're good at. Don't convince yourself that you like something just because you think it will look better on a cv, or you think it will be easier, or you think that it makes a good combination with your other options. Don't listen to what anyone else tells you about the GCSEs that you're considering because anyone in your year nobody has done a GCSE yet, even if you or your friends have older siblings because they would have done the old GCSE. This new GCSE starts for my year (I'm guessing you're in year nine), and it's completely different to the old one. So absolutely nobody knows what they are talking about, unless they were involved in the production of the new GCSE syllabus and exam. Basically what I'm trying to say is know what you truly like, because you would surprised how ridiculously easy it is to convince yourself that you enjoy something. Put as much thought into choosing your options as you can, and work super hard this year because it will help you for year ten. Hope I helped! Good luck xo
@faithmoll33407 жыл бұрын
Lucy Roberts I'm in year nine right now and we picked out subjects in year 8 so we could get used to the new GCSE and have enough practise so that by Year 11 we're used to it. I picked Business studies, P.E, History and Triple Science. My best advice is pick what you like and make sure you know about what you're picking. I'm horrible at homework so I made sure the subjects I picked on my own (I didn't choose Triple Science, I was forced to) had less homework. Go to the teachers of the subject you're doing and ASK? I know some people in my year were scared of asking SOO they ended up picking subjects they thought were easy but actually needed a lot of work done at home. Also, don't be worried about the New GCSE. It's not easy but since year 9 are the first doing the full new GCSE's the grade boundaries will hopefully be lower except for the 9's. Just make sure you do your work and know what you're doing.

It is most definitely possible to learn all the content by the end of year 12! I'm in year 13 now and in my GCSEs I got 4Cs,4 Bs and A and in my AS's I got two Bs and Cs ☺️ I honestly believe if you have a good routine for homework/study time you'll be absolutely fine! Like Eve I have around 12 frees a week including a Monday off on my new timetable! I really struggled with English lit/Lang at AS but I just did an extra essay every week and asked my teachers for practice questions which also helped time management! I find at A2 I'm struggling more with psychology than last year which stresses me cause I want to do it at Uni! However today I voluntarily did extra questions as I've been getting Ds in psych when I got B last year 🙃 anyway good luck eve and everyone else in GCSE/sixth form years!

I finished my A levels this summer and got AAB in English, Maths and Biology. I felt overwhelmed at the start of y12 with the volume of content but it is possible. My main advice would be do not feel like you have to continue 4 levels in year 13, it is 100% NOT worth it, Universities only want 3. A fourth will not give you a higher chance of getting an offer, its more important to have an amazing personal statement (thats a fun thing to do at the start of year 13 along with all the work :) ). All that happens if you do 4 A levels is uni's will probably offer you a space based on all 4 and it puts so much pressure on. Focus to three i cannot stress it enough!!! I really wanted to continue all 4 but exam time is so stressful theres no way I would've got the grades I did if I had done 4. Have fun though honestly, sixth form years were the best years of my life!! Good luck xxxx

I'm currently in year 13 studying business, English language and English lit and at the beginning of year 12 I was already wanting to drop out. I hated it! I thought I'd made such bad decisions with the subjects I chose, I barely knew anyone in my lessons and I just couldn't get my head around some of the things we were learning. Now, I'm pretty happy with my chosen subjects and I don't hate it as much. English lit is definitely the subject I don't like the most. I'm studying Emma, an anthology of 12 poems, twelfth night, the importance of being earnest, the kite runner and the handmaids tale and I have a three hours mock in a few weeks on ALL OF IT. It's the most time consuming subject for me as it's just constantly reading, redrafting coursework and making notes. Despite this, it does feel pretty great when you get an essay back to find out you haven't done too bad. I feel like the way you're going about A Levels is definitely the right approach, I regret not spending my frees last year doing work - instead I walked around Durham and did some shopping. Not good for my brain or my bank balance! You're making life so much easier for yourself and I'm sure you're going to do great. At the minute I'm attempting to juggle homework, revision for mocks, coursework, note making, a part time job, driving lessons, my UCAS application and a blog and I'm stressing like mad. This video has definitely made me want to write a blog post about how I'm currently finding A Levels as I feel like I would've loved watching the type of videos before going to sixth form back in year eleven X

Also for A-levels don't try to over do yourself unlike gcses where you can float it and come out with good grades even if your bad at the subject with A-levels you will sink! So if ur a C/B student don't try to become a doctor! Set realistic aims!

Hi Eve, I'm in year 13 at the moment and DO NOT PANIC about the amount there is to learn! When I was in at the stage you are in in year 12, I felt really overwhelmed by the volume of information to learn (I did English lit, geography, RS and Drama) but it is possible to learn it and come out with good grades, especially somebody like you who is really good at revision technique. English lit is a tricky one, but just make sure you keep on top of making revision cards for quotes when you can and don't feel disheartened if your grades are lower than you were expecting. The quotes really made me feel anxious last year but when it came to learning them, you know more than you think and in the exam you don't have to write it exactly - you can give an overview of what it says if you have a blank! Sorry for the long comment, but I hope that helps you feel reassured :)

Hii, I have finished A-levels and now at uni! Not going to lie it is hard but you will get through it, it went soo fast for me. I did all essay based subjects and to get a B at the beginning of A-levels is amazing, most people I know at A-levels dropped around two grades. If your worried about getting the grades don't stress, as long as you get enough to go to what you want to do after then it doesn't matter (I say that I can understand the pressure to do well when your in the middle of it) however most people at my uni got well below what they needed to get in. Good luck!!!

Tips of being in year 10!! 💙
@fikawithchlo50697 жыл бұрын
I dropped a level French after about a week because my teachers were speaking in French for the whole lesson and we did basically all speaking activities in class and I'm so shy and I hated it so I left and took up sociology instead which I honestly hate too😩 I also take psychology (which I hate so much and I cannot understand it at all) and business which I love😂 I'm honestly considering dropping out at the end of the year and going to college🙁 I hate a levels so much!

Anyone who's done the leaving cert (or a levels in Britain)!!!!!! Do you have tips for me please?! I'm in my final year and I just can't motivate myself to do anything more than homework and studying for small class tests and I'm really starting to struggle and worry. Honestly I'm open to any and all advice, please help me out!
@alicedoesphysics7 жыл бұрын
Hi 😊 Sorry - I did A levels, not the leaving cert, but seeing as nobody has answered I thought I would in the mean time! Just doing homework at this point in the year is completely fine. Honestly, you don't need to do anything extra until Easter. It's fab that Eve is this motivated, but don't worry - you don't have to be. I wasn't, and I got AAAAAB in my ASs, and A*A*A* in my A levels, all in science / languages so heavy workload subjects - you will be fine x
@theessenceofbeauty1g7 жыл бұрын
alicedoesphysics Thank you so much! It's really reassuring to know I'm not a complete lost cause at this point :') The only thing is with the Leaving Cert (the Irish A levels) we take 7 subjects instead of 3 so I suppose I'd have to start a little earlier than you but your reply was so reassuring! Thank you so much x
@alicedoesphysics7 жыл бұрын
+theessenceofbeauty1g No worries! Ah, no you shouldn't 😊 They're equivalent to A levels (have a friend at uni who did leaving cert) so there's the same amount of content overall, you just have more breadth and we have more depth 😊 Youre definitely not a lost cause! Massive good luck! x

Year 12 is a struggle as you don't realise how much of a big jump it is because it doesn't really seem like a huge difference. Although, you may not get the grades you want as you don't realise it's so much harder but it's a lot easier to then get a really good grade in year 13!

Year 12 is hard but you can do it so long as you start revision early, I actually started revising later than I did for my gcses and I came out with AAAB last year which is way better than my GCSE grades

For GCSE English lit how did you learn all the poems??
@holdroid007 жыл бұрын
I found that when it came to memorising the poems it's easier to revise four or five and become fully comfortable with them then, in the exam, if the one they give us isn't one I looked at I think of the poems I have done and analyse the new one in a way that will make it good for comparing with the one I know. Just make sure that if you do this method you choose ones that have different underlying themes so that you can always have at least one to compare with what you get given.
@maddymcsmith59137 жыл бұрын
But it's totally possible to learn it all! Honestly, start revising by christmas it will help SO much more when it comes to your AS'. then taking it on to A2's you'll have the information cemented more. Also, 100000% drop a subject at A2, life with 4 A Levels on the go is basically impossible! Good luck!! x

Eve I am in year 13 and I have hated every day of AS. I thought it was all to much. But to my surprise I got through my AS's okay (B,B,C and a D), but honestly I thought I was going to fail the whole thing. I think my problem with A-levels is nothing comes together till right before the exam. It's not like GCSE when things are done a few months before the exam then you can just revise and that stresses me out. The thing I love the most is frees because I can grab a coffee and get on with the endless list of things. Year 13 is better I think because you get into the swing of things and have one less subject on your hands. I mean UCAS is a pain, but my top tip for that is work on your personal statement and right at the beginning find out all the exact modules for your exams at the beginning of the year before the stress kicks in, other than that it's simple. Sorry for the rant, but it will be all good and worth it in the end. X

I've done my A-level in Spanish as a native speaker this October and it's not as easy as you think I mean is compulsory at our school but if you don't necessarily enjoy lit (like me) you will have to work on it. I'm also doing french A2 at the moment and languages are complicated but they require much less studying. (International A-levels)

I'm a Year 13 student who is doing A2 in Business, Maths, Computer Science, French and Spanish (just finished). At As I was doing those subjects (AAAA) plus Physics which I dropped this year because I got a C. Just in case anyone has questions about my subjects

I'm in y13 now. I found the start of y12 not bad at all, as they were slowly getting us into it rather than throwing us in at the deep end. I found that after Christmas it gets tough, but even so y12 does not compare to y13! It gets tougher and more demanding. Advice for anyone in y11 is not to pick English language! I got an A* at GCSEs and now getting D's. It's very very different and challenging
@jazzyrobot7 жыл бұрын
Really enjoyed this video! I'm in year 13 now so I can say, don't worry! You will manage and trust me, you're already so firm in your foundations just by keeping on top of work as you go along so keep doing that and I PROMISE you that you'll be absolutely fine! Remember that at A Level you really can trust your teachers too because they're more expert in their subjects than at GCSE. This year my work load for music seems impossible, and I really struggled to manage it last year. But this year I know the teacher knows what she's doing and I 100% trust her because she got me through last year! So you're doing the right thing getting to know them and following their advice. Also, Bs in your first essays?! That's so good! You still have so much time to improve so you'll definitely be on solid As by the end. As for language speaking, everyone freaks out at the start. You go from that lovely GCSE memorisation to complete spontaneity at A Level! I'd recommend getting a speaking buddy to practice with on a more regular basis and naturally your grammar will improve. Your grammar is still growing as well at the moment so I wouldn't worry about it too much at this stage. I'm studying El Labriento del Fauno this year too, although we've not started it yet, I'm on the old spec so we started with the play (la casa de Bernarda Alba) but you've got me looking forward to the film now! I think with languages you just have to continually expose yourself to them- reading news articles, listening to the news and writing summaries in the language, pen pals etc. I got As in French and Spanish last year and I can say it just takes practice. Don't get disheartened if you don't get As in your first writing and speaking assessments- it's not only the language you have to get right, it's the new style of exam technique. My French teacher openly admits that he purposely lets us fail at the start so that we then listen to him and take on what he says. Honestly, you're like the dream student. Putting in the work from the very start is how you succeed. There are students who won't start working until about April so you can count on them to lower the grade boundaries! xx

My A-levels were a bad time for me. I constantly was in tears and didn't understand the high level of work- I ended up dropping out. I'm now finding the university level course I'm doing so much more achievable!! Don't be discouraged if you feel that Post-16 is not going well for you. It really feels like the end of the world, until you find your new path.

@fortun4te7 жыл бұрын
Leia clark I have done around two months at uni of French and Politics and thought that I would dislike politics and find it boring and love French but I have found that it is the other way round. I find French very difficult compared to advanced higher (equivalent a level in Scotland) at uni as the complete independence and having to teach yourself a lot. However, I think part of that could be due to the level I was taught at school. I have noticed that the English and american students are a lot more capable than I with languages. Just a heads up ☺️ also deffo take a level if you want to do languages as it'll make it easier at uni
