I enjoy your way of training it's very similar to how we train our retrievers in Sweden. I've always been told the British are quite harsh to gundogs but this is nothing like I've heard and is phenomenal. Would love to train over there one day! Cheers!

Have you seen how most KZbinrs show how to use a slip lead, up around the ears with the stopper pulled down, I don't know if it's come from the states or the show ring but I would love to know your thoughts

Hello there I have recently stumbled across your videos, finding them really helpful. I have a 20 month old springer Lily, having just lost my beautiful old boy Ben. Do you have any videos on dealing with the laid back family cat. Ben had no problems but Lily will bark and lunge at the cat. We have tried everything but she just won’t accept him.

When is it too late to teach a dog to be steady. I’ve adopted a withdrawn guide dog , he was outside bred from working lab stock and obviously wasn’t suited to being a guide dog. He’s 2 next month and a big lad 34kg . His favourite thing is retrieving but he’s not steady at all . I’d love to do pet gundog training with him but not sure if it’s too late ?

We have a 1 year old fox red lab that we have rehomed, we’ve had her 2 months now, she does the basic sit and stay, doesn’t recall, pulls like a train when walking, very reactive towards cats and squirrels…is she broken? How long would you expect to train this out of her?

Thanks this really helps. I have a couple of 6 month old puppies and I’m so keen to get them right after developing some issues with our older dog. Think the clip at the end with you rolling on the floor with him is an important reminder not to take it too seriously and keep it fun for the pup. I’m so seriously trying not to make any mistakes this time round it’s easy to forget.

Great video, my young lab has been good with his delivery but yesterday when retrieving he presented the dummy to me then turned his head when i tried to take it from him. What could have caused this and how do i make sure it doesnt happen again? Im reluctant to do any more retrieves until i know this in hope that it doesnt become a regular occurance.

I'm still using this head holding and praise for my lurcher puppy (she's 6 months now) and it's making it so much easier for her to give me the toy or dummy because she wants that praise and contact -THANK YOU!

I am super glad to see this video; as before I know it Rosie Boy (Rum) will be hitting that 6 month age. I'm wondering if I should just start introducing the lead to him so he gets used to the feeling of it on and let him run about freely with it. He is 4 months now so i figure might as well before we start walking to heel at 6 months. Seeing this video and this boy who has a similar personality to my Rum already comfortable with the leed is suggesting i get on that asap. 😅

How do you stop dog shuffling along when have them told to sit , as they do it so you go back and touch them putting them back on the spot?

Good question! Mine creeps too. I take him back to where I got him to sit and sit him down again.
