I’m back in Maryland where I grew up, fishing farm ponds and back to the basics! No 75,000 dollar bass boat, no forward facing sonar, just a couple of lures in a pocket and a spinning rod! No, I’m not catching monster bass but when I was 12 years old a 1 1/2 pounder was a trophy to me and now years later, considering the nostalgia, it’s still a trophy!

It's good to see Roland doing a video like this. Old school fishing isn't forgotten, it's downright shunned at this point, because 90% of the "professional" fisherman today can't compete without it. It's like asking a journalist to write a grammatically correct report without Microsoft Word to correct all their f**k-ups. NO ONE is learning the basics today, because the basics have been automated to save time. And, that's creating a facade of so-called "professionals", who are anything but. And, we're all guilty of it to one degree or another. But, when you start applying it to leisure activities..........that's a WHOLE separate level of loser. God help these people if the power ever goes out. And, that's to say nothing of what it's doing to fisheries now that every fish in the lake is fair game, given they have absolutely nowhere to hide. But, I digress... This video was as good for Roland as it is his viewers, given he's up to his neck in this FFS, which is a shame given he's a veteran that should know better.

Watching him wade out in those reeds reminds me of an opening scene in Glen Lau's "Bigmouth" series...Roland wading through some timber in Santee Cooper, pork chop side burns, & them shades. If yall haven't heard of or watched those videos, find them somehow, somewhere (eBay?). They were so influential in how I viewed bass and bass fishing. Also the under water cinematography & narration was epic!

One of my favourite videos I’ve seen in years, I always tell people you don’t need to be a millionaire to enjoy fishing and actually catch them. not a popular view by today’s standards 😂. Great video, thanks for posting.

I watch a lot of Roland...this may be the best of his videos. I am a bank fisherman and deal with a lot of moss every time I go out. I keep trying to force all the lures in my bag but simple is ALWAYS BETTER. Thanks Roland.

I grew up about 1 mile downstream from San Vicente Reservoir in San Diego County. We fished it daily sometimes 2 times a day. In those days there was no public access to the Reservoir, we poached it. There was a lake keeper that maintained the facility, Jim Parker was his name. Usually we got in n out undetected but he caught us often enough. Finally one time that he caught us he was really mad he said " I'm tiered of chasing you little f×cks, from now on I'm not chasing you anymore but if some else catches you your asses are mine". From then on if he saw us hiking in he'd just give us a ride up the mountain to the lake. Mr Parker was a great friend in our childhood. I'll always remember him. Those were fun time...in the late 1960s- early 1070s.

An adorable story. Kids are all the same no matter which part of the world. The more so if there’s bass and they aren’t allowed to catch them. A nice gentleman that Mr. Parker. Greetings from Spain.

In one of your last videos, you said if you got a strike, 9/10 times you can set the hook. Can you do a video explaining that? There is this pond I like to fish and I had two bites on a white chad swim bait but it was so fast and I’m still trying to learn how to read a strike.
