I have a feeling that was why he wanted Marty to arrive in 1985 in that point in time because he knew when the trains were running and he figured there was a good chance the train would destroy the time machine as it occurred in the film he just had to put faith into Marty that he would escape in time and not get killed by the train. Overwise he would have to go get another Marty with his new train time machine to replace the one that got killed to have the new one live out the killed Marty's life.

It breaks my heart to see Marty say goodbye to doc. But in the end, doc got what he wanted. He ended up in the old west, Marty ends up back in 1985, and the Time Machine is destroyed just like he wanted… when the flux capacitor and the time circuits stopped working, and powered down for the last time, it was the end of time travel for me.😢😢😢

Considering the Back to the Future movie series ended with Part 3, it made perfect sense as to why the DeLorean was destroyed. By this point, it was an aging, 70 year-old time-traveling sports car that lost the ability to drive under its own power. Plus, Doc figured that it caused enough damage to the space-time continuum and didn't want a repeat of what 2015 Biff did in Part 2.

I am certain with contemporary technology it could have been restored, but Doc had deemed it too dangerous to exist. Destruction was outsourced to train which had no temptation to keep flux capacitor intact.

@@HALLish-jl5mo No, the DeLorean was powerless. Earlier in the movie, Doc tried refilling it’s fuel tank with whiskey, but it blew out the fuel injection manifold. That meant the DeLorean couldn't drive under its own power until the manifold was fixed and it was given proper gasoline.

Fun fact, in real life, the famous gull-wing doors of the DeLorean were notorious for getting stuck. Apparently it was a problem with the locking mechanism engaging when it wasn't supposed to. If it looks like Marty was struggling to get the driver side door open, thats because he was. For a moment, he was locked inside the DeLorean with a freight train speeding right at him. Good thing he managed to get the door to open.

Y'know basically since the time machine is destroyed, a part of Doc is also destroyed. This Time Machine was his life's work and to see it being destroyed is like killing a part of Doc since A.) He made it and B.) It was a way to time travel and to possibly visit Doc. Marty saying that "It's Destroyed" was his goodbye to Doc since he thought he would never see him again at all.

Good point. The original test run is in the middle of the night so there would be plenty of room in the mall parking lot. In 1955, they deliberately hide it to avoid attracting attention. And it's inoperable for most of its time in 1885 even if they were _willing_ to risk the attention.

You have to remember though that the Delorean had been sent back to 1885 where it crashed to the ground due to its hover capability being destroyed by the lightning bolt, then it sat in a mine for 70 years until it was recovered in 1955, then sent back to 1885 again where Marty ripped its fuel line and Doc blew up its fuel injection manifold with whisky. That poor car had been through a lot.

I don't that it's the saddest to Doc cause he expected it to be gone when he tried to destroy it when he felt tired and frustrated about it, so at least the time machine for Doc is finally over by the second train after the steam train as a freight train that crashed through in pieces which Doc for himself would feel relieved that it's finally destructed.

It's heartbreaking. But, as time has gone on, I really appreciate that it gets so unceremoniously destroyed. It adds finality. The car has done its job, been pushed to its limits, and now it's time to go. With all the remakes and 80s nostalgia cash-ins that keep coming I always respect seeing a trilogy that actually ends.

Fun Fact: To film the destruction of the DeLorean (right after Marty McFly's eventual return to 1985), the filmmakers consulted with the engineer of the diesel freight train (The VCRY #9, which belonged to the Ventura County Railway) that would smash the DeLorean to pieces. So I know I'm saying the same thing as so many others here, but I can't go without typing the words: I totally understand the reason for the action and why it had to be done, but lordy it's still SO HEARTBREAKING to see the DeLorean be destroyed in this scene. I was in elementary school when I first watched the trilogy and this scene hurt even back then. I'd go as far as to say that it's gotten more painful as I've gotten older, and I think I finally understand why. The time machine is like the Starship Enterprise, Millenium Falcon, or TARDIS in that it's a character as much as the organic lifeforms that rely on it. She went on adventures with Marty and got him out of trouble far more than it got him into it. Even Michael J Fox's reaction feels gut wrenching in that he realizes those escapades can never happen again now. Yes, it may be for the better, but it still is bittersweet to say the least. Lordy, what a scene. I actually got a little emotional just typing that...

I love how everytime they time travel they crash into something. In Part 1 Marty crashes into the barn and the old theatre, part 2 they nearly crash into a flying car and a plane, part 3 he nearly crashes into Indians and does crash into an oncoming train haha

@@jamesholton2630 A train that's roughly 10 cars long going at that speed would have no trouble making an emergency stop. Search for a video called *"H74 Hits Truck!"* which has a much longer and faster train making a quick stop after it hits a vehicle

I love the context the sign of it naming it "Eastwood Ravine." As far as the people of Hill Valley are concerned, this dude Clint Eastwood wanders into town with exactly zero backstory and wearing extremely strange clothes, immediately starts chilling out with the very friendly (but secretive and more than a little odd) local blacksmith, beats the tar out of and humiliates the local bully, then hijacks a train and drives it into a gorge. All in the space of about six days to a week. And they STILL decided to name the ravine after him. Must have been fewer contenders for "citizen of the year" back then.

Something I didn't trip off of till YEARS later. I really REALLY hope Doc or Marty came back and cleaned up the wold Time Machine or at best got the old Flux out of there. They last thing you need is someone else messing with time travel which I think DID happen in the comics

Because DeLoreans are made of fibreglass with stainless panels screwed on top. Very little strength.

Wasn't really in "perfect condition" at the time of its destruction. It sustained irreparable damage to its fuel line, lost the ability to fly, couldn't drive under its own power, and was preserved in a mine for 70 years.

@@g-manonthego6678 Also in BTTF2, the car was about 30 feet in the air when the lightning bolt sent it to 1885. Doc wrote in the letter that the lightning shorted out its hovering system, so it probably fell to the ground from that height. I'm surprised the DeLorean was in as good a condition after that.

@Michael_Knight823 you're right, he wasn't stranded. Anyone who's watched the movie all the way to the end knows Doc returns to 1985 in a brand new time machine he built from a steam locomotive.

If I remember, Marty stuck into his place to steal some stuff, but was found out because he didn’t escape because he was looking at all the gadgets and was amazed, so Doctor took him under his wing to help him out
