I thought this was a Mandela effect before. But now I realise there's two different versions because at my house I have the normal version without the to be continued. And at my friends house they have this version. Made me go crazy back in the day

This was MY FIRST FILM to see “TO BE CONTINUED” at the end. And I saw it on TBS when I was a kid. Glad I’m not the only one who vividly remembers. I rewinded my 4K disc back and forth so many times to make sure I wasn’t crazy that it was missing 😢

I saw this in theaters as a kid. The entire audience went crazy, cheering, screaming when the crew flew. It is probably the "happiest" movie ending.

This comment is a year late, but yes, you are imagining things. "To be continued" was NOT in the theatrical release. I worked at a movie theater at the time this movie was playing. I had to go in the theater to pick up garbage off the floor after movies ended. I would go in the theater just before the movie ended to get ready. I saw the ending of this movie many many times. There was no "to be continued." Then I saw the movie on VHS, and I was like "what the hell? That 'to be continued' wasn't in the theater version." I spoke to my coworkers, and they all agreed that "to be continued" was not in the theatrical version.

@@RayChiTownThe theatrical release of this movie in 1985 didn’t include the cliffhanger because there were no plans to do a sequel at the time (therefore the dialogue towards the end was supposed to be a joke). When the movie was released on VHS a year later, somebody must’ve thought a sequel might get done after Back to the Future became a blockbuster movie!

A little confused, is this from the new 4K master? It certainly looks better than the sharpened processed mess I'm used to. Cute that they reinstated the title card, was always curious about it.

It's really nothing too fancy. Same old transfer here, just from an earlier generation master, before they applied all that noise reduction nonsense. It's been upscaled to 4K here because the higher bitrate is less aggressive towards the grain of the film. The title card was sent to me as a vector file by a friend who has access to the great "Time Travel" font. I just had to apply a few effects to make it look like the original, then animate it using a few other effects to avoid the "too perfect" digital look.

ilovewaterslides ohh this is DCP version I’ve heard so much about. I saw screenshots of it and it didn’t look drastically better than the blu-ray but it does look a lot better in motion. You did a great job restoring the title card, if Universal did want to restore I couldn’t see it looking any better. Hell, it would probably look worse.

​@@robertcop3736 Thanks a lot! It is indeed the DCPrip, it's pretty dated but yeah, still looking better than the newer master they used for the Blu-ray... (I should aslo mention that I've slightly regraded it as well.) Judging by the Netflix version of Part II and the trailer for the theatrical rerun of BTTF, those new 4K remasters seem to be very good looking so let's wait and see but Universal seem to have changed. It's about time!

I checked out the new remastered version also available on regular Blu-ray (They have updated the Blu-ray from the 2010 discs to all new ones with the new master) and they look phenomenal, they are worth every cent.
