I just felt compelled to come back to this old video showing you using a 606. On close inspection I see that you are using that same rod that my vintage Zebco 66 now sits on. Thanks for sending me that rod. My 66 is a the oldest version of that series of the 66, 600, 606 series of Zebco reels. My 66 was made in the 1950s.

Loved this Willy! If you had pulled out a stringer on that first fish I would have fallen out of my chair 🤣

I’ve often thought about taking a few out of there and cooking them up but I’ve talked myself out of every time.. the stringer would’ve been a nice touch but we’ve got some snapping turtles in there that would be all over that.. lol 😂

You took me back, fishing with my family. We used Zebco reels, they did the same thing in the 70's. We ended up using cane poles. Thanks for taking me back. Take care and Be Safe. ❤

My youngest Son is my editor and he was doing a little experiment with the black and white old school look at the beginning. I actually thought about doing the entire episode that way but wasn’t sure. Glad we helped you bring back some memories. Thanks for watching and commenting, it means a lot!!

I had a brand new 606 back in the early 70's and it had line issues like yours with 4lb or 6lb test. I finally cured the issue using 10lb line - the skinny stuff liked to workbotscwayvunder the spinner head, while the thicker 10lb worked flawlessly....

Hey there! That was the first 606 I’ve ever had. Never did get to try another line size on it. I have a good friend in Mankato Minnesota who is also an avid spin cast fan and user. We trade reels back and forth quite frequently. Needless to say, that particular reel now resides in Mankato, MN. Lol 😂 I’m not a huge fan of the “saw tooth” style spinner head. I really enjoy the retrieval pin style reels like Abumatic 120’s or 170’s. Or early Johnson century’s or Citations. I still have quite a few Zebcos. I don’t use them as often as I should but maybe it’s about time to take a couple out. But if I have that same thing happen again, I’ll move up to a bigger line and see what happens, thanks for the info!! Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it very much!! Willie

Hi Willie, I found that the reel works best with a ten lb line anything else the line gets beared within itself light lines just don't work well. Willie Merry Xmas

Hey there Mr. Ed! The 606 and I did not get along well at all… I tried 4,6, & 8lb line on it and it continued to do the same thing repeatedly… it also has a new home, I forget where it ended up but whoever has it, I can assure you that it’s in better hands than mine.. I believe Dan Selvig ended up with it and then his brother who is a big Zebco fan got it from him. Merry Christmas to you as well Ed!! 🎄🎅

I got lots of old zebcos and johnsons, mitchell etc. the snag issue when casting is likely due to sombody using braid and it cuts groove in spinner head by line pickup pin. spinner head needs replaced to fix it as grinding groove down wont solve issue. also floro line burys itself in spool causing similar issue and cuts itself. all spincast reels require only Mono no braid, floro or hybrid lines as they cause issues/damage to reel. braid is only for leaders or spinning reels with roller bearing line pickup bail. and floro for leader/tipet under 10 foot long only depending on rod/pole length so it dont get on spool

Thank you, it was fun. Even if the reel didn’t want to cooperate with me. They’re not all gonna be “winners”. Sometimes there’s a reason they weren’t being used anymore lol. Thanks again for watching and commenting, it means a lot. Fling away!!

Hello there! I love the old Johnson Century’s, had some great luck with them and I was really hoping for better with this 606 but for whatever reason, this one just did not want to cooperate. I took it completely apart, all new grease, hand wound the line evenly on the spool. I don’t know, it just would get jammed up during casts. I haven’t give up on it yet. I’ll try a 6lb line, maybe a Trilene. Clean it out again, try a more modern rod and see what happens. Thanks for watching and commenting, it means a lot. Love your name By the way!! Hondo was a great “John Wayne” movie 🤠
