What do you think about the shop rebuild? Do you have any tips to improve on it?
@barendgarvelink

Fantastic job on the new workshop! You did right to choose a full renovation. An earlier bodge job is what created this pipe leak. Improvements in the construction and insulation will pay for themselves, and why you may not recoup _all_ of the lost time towards working on Antidote, you will find it easier and faster to work on her with these shop upgrades. Brilliant work, and welcome back!

I am thinking the new compressor should not be in the same space as the majority of the work is done.
@livingforsail
@livingforsail 3 ай бұрын
@@jimedson3853 Why is that? The tools that have heavy air demand will be used on the other side of the wall or in the boat shed.

@@livingforsail the great thing about air is you don’t have to worry much about long runs. The compressor can be in another (sound insulated) space, and air lines can be run anywhere. Keeping it out of the workspace mostly reduces the noise load.

Great result, and very happy to see you're back on your feet! Honestly I would have liked to see more of the actual process, as in more videos about it. I get that it's a sailing channel (or sail-boat-build-channel I guess). It's still all DIY, just not on or about a boat for a couple of weeks. This seemed like a bit of a compressed video, which isn't that surprising as it seems to be 3 months of work in just 20 minutes. I'm of course aware that filming everything is also a lot of work (plus editing and everything) and might add to the time it takes in the end.

Yeah, I appreciate the input here. I think going forward I’m going to try to incorporate more of what’s going on in life into the videos. I did struggle with feeling like “nobody cares about this” with the shop work… We will see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback. 🙏🙏👍🙌

@@livingforsail As an after thought. You probably know this trick anyway but I've had a couple of instances where using plastic film to get underneath the fork seals to kind of 'pull' trapped dirt debris from the fork seal has saved me from having to replace the seal. At least as a short term measure, it has worked for me. That noted, I cam imagine you enjoying a fork rebuild, that's fun too!

We've already gotten a look at your skills so we would not have accepted less! ;) Now feel free to show more of the shop while you work on the boat again! I looked at those "billboard vinyls" to cover my RV. I hope walking on the vinyl doesn't punch holes in it from the rocks it's on. It is so nice to see a little help from your suppliers! That is really nice to have that organizational ability in your shop and fasteners when you need them.

Interesting idea. I usually just run the super fine (or HEPA if I can get them) filters and bags in the vacuum so there’s very minimal (near zero?) dust getting past the vacuum. Thanks for the idea. 🙌👍

I have a rainbow vacuum which uses water to filter out dust, it only uses about 2" of water, but the air comes in only a couple inches from the water and is directed down into it. They work great, but as you can imagine, the bearings take a beating with all that water. The nice thing is you don't have to buy/clean filters, you just dump the dirty water.

Concrete dust...young and dumb...late at night grinding a concrete hall floor and came back in daylight to see every square inch of that apartment covered with fine concrete dust...walls, ceiling, curtains, everything. It took me longer to clean the apartment than it did to grind and relay parquet in the hall. I was holding my breath a lot that night and that's probably why years later x-rays show lots of dark areas in my lungs.
