Great video as always. The Roam seems like just what I need. Even though my boat is at a marina, it really isn't monitored for water level and battery level and the shore power is spotty. Great work on the bulkhead.

that makita 9031 is a MUST HAVE. anyone doing a refit without one is a moron. period.nough said.ahahahahha dont sweat over the wet on wet fairing over resin application, so long everything belongs in the same family (epoxy) and is properly mixed you will have zero problems. been there many times never a problem. even with different manufacturers (say total boat fairing over west system resin) never a problem. we just have to mix the right stuff together. even painting systems (ive used alexseal only, so far) if they say you can thin to 15% i can tell you ive thinned it to 25% without a hitch, be it primers, top coats, whatever. actually weather conditions are far more important to keep an eye on, than being super anal about mixing to perfection (im not condoning bad practices here, im just saying there a small window of tolerance either side of the scale) the voids you are getting might be because you are aiming for a 1:1 resin to cloth ratio. which is the complete ideal, but is unachieavable by means of hand lay up. you can get 1:1 by resin infusion vaccum bagging. by hand if you get 1:1.5 its already pretty good. there are times where i think i can get below the 1.5, but it depends on lots of factors. i wouldnt wash given that you use peelply (i always use peelply, always) never had an issue so far, but hey that is for each of us to decide.

Thanks a lot for the great feedback! 🙏. Good to know about your experiences with fairing over tacky epoxy. My thoughts would be that since they are both compatible and internally catalyzed that it should be fine. Cheers! 👍🙌

I am at the JET and i agree that the terminal blocks are great however they do give corrosion a foothold and cause voltage drops. I spray all terminal blocks with terminal sealer either Wurth or CRC to try and reduce that problem
@livingforsail
@livingforsail 6 сағат бұрын
You bring up an excellent point. I have a can of the CRC corrosion inhibitor spray (or whatever it’s called) that I’ve used on bonding terminal connections. I should go follow up with that. Thank you for the reminder! 🙏👍🙌

Thanks for the ethical advertising policy. The attention to detail in your refit is what makes the whole task viable. A boat yard is going to bid a price, and during the work, they are naturally going to get to a point where they say to themselves.... that's good enough, we have to move on... you can spend the time to round over those fillets, edges to get the long lasting, done right, not to cost rebuild.

Well, THAT is a twist! You splashed the shop before you even started it! It all looks so nice! We've already gotten a look at your skills so we would not have accepted less! ;) Now feel free to show more of the shop while you work on the boat again! I looked at those "billboard vinyls" to cover my RV. I hope walking on the vinyl doesn't punch holes in it from the rocks it's on. It is so nice to see a little help from your suppliers! That is really nice to have that organizational ability in your shop and fasteners when you need them.
@livingforsail
@livingforsail 3 күн бұрын
Thank you! 🙏 I’m glad that you think the shop came out good. I’m very pleased. The tarps are really tough but overtime I think there will be some holes worn in. I’ll probably throw ply down before rolling heavy loads. If I was doing it all over again I would approach it a bit differently but we will see how they last. Cheers! 👍🙌

Very important to epoxy seal edges all of the ply usually takes two coats.
@livingforsail
@livingforsail 5 күн бұрын
Yes! I went around the edges with unthickened epoxy several times until it stopped soaking in and then the parts were set in a bed of thick epoxy around the edges so I’m hoping to eliminate a path for water along the edges! 👍 I’m also plugging any drilled holes with epoxy over-bores and staying away from screws. 🙌

I get your concern, but you pulled the glass up, and didn't wipe off the epoxy, and then allowed it to cure. If you didn't grind ALL of that residual epoxy off, don't you still have the same issue of epoxy applied to an un-clean substrate? You now applied a layer of glass on top of a properly prepared layer of epoxy, that was improperly applied to the surface below. I don't really see how it is different.
@livingforsail
@livingforsail 11 күн бұрын
After it cured I cleaned it with some soap and water to remove any blush and then yes, ground it back down and cleaned properly. 👍
@GloryDays_RandR

OK, in the video you just said you cleaned it and then abraded it. You didn’t say you took it back down to the original surface.

Concrete dust...young and dumb...late at night grinding a concrete hall floor and came back in daylight to see every square inch of that apartment covered with fine concrete dust...walls, ceiling, curtains, everything. It took me longer to clean the apartment than it did to grind and relay parquet in the hall. I was holding my breath a lot that night and that's probably why years later x-rays show lots of dark areas in my lungs.
