the end misses the variation Qg5 which is a checkmate with wQh3. just because it was one of the moves I thought of.

It's had to see a move that doesn't check the king in this situation because it looks like black can check the white king. I got it, but it took awhile.

The first move is obvious. Fastest solution is: 1. Qe7+ g5 2. Qe1+ Qg3+ 3. Qxg3# After: 1. Qe7+ Qg5 2. Qe4+ Qg4 3. Qe3 Black has no good place for his Queen and will lose it or get checkmated the next moves. Best way is to sacrifice the Queen on g2. In this nice variation, white does not capture the black pawns and allows black to queen a pawn: 1. Qe7+ Qg5 2. Qe4+ Qg4 3. Qe3 Qg2+ 4. Kxg2 Kg4 5. Qf3+ Kg5 6. Kg3 h4+ 7. Kh3 Kh6 8. Kg4 h3 9. Qf8+ Kh7 10. Kg5 h2 11. Kf6 h1=Q 12. Qg7#

I agree the first move (Qe7+) is obvious but Qe1 as a second move is not a solution because the King will escape all traps at Kg5. Queen sacrifice on g2 is as good an answer as any, but a queen against two pawns is an easy win for white with many options.
