Alright Alex - nice vid mate. I've camped there many times and it's an idyllic spot. Nice beer to bring along too. Keep up the good work - life flys by..... I'd love to be back to my 'younger' days outdoors. ATB pal, Chris

Back Tor is a beautiful spot for a wild camp. I really need to pop up to Derwent Dam before it stops for the year. Another great hike and great vlog, thanks for sharing Alex.

Cheers Chris! It a beautiful spot up there indeed. You have to get yourself to the dam, very impressive seeing it in full flow!

Perfect I'd say Alex. You wanted one pitch but got another - the right one in the end. Lovely and peaceful on time - just what you want after a days work. And the Grouse? Well, they add a certain charm to the camp in moderation maybe. Well, another great spot noted. No views but a decent time out. Have a great week ahead. Mark

Cheers Mark! Yes it was one of my all time favourite pitches that one, got very lucky finding it to be honest. Yes I can’t really complain about the noisy grouse seeing as I’m basically sleeping in their home 😁 Cheers Mark, hope you have a great week too 👍

@@alexcripps.outdoors A pleasure Alex. Hey, good to hear the pitch rates highly. Well, we share the home for a bit but yeah it's mostly their space. I will have a good one thanks.

Enjoyed this one Alex in very familiar territory in fact I've camped that very spot..did you note all the dates & initials on the rocks..the Rimington-Wilson family owned all the land around there back in the late 18th to 19th century so where you see RRW or AW carved in the rocks they're their initials.. Lovely walk up via that route too,there's also if you've not done it the route up Abbey Brook that's a fascinating place & a particular great camp spot at Cartledge Bents just off the Cartledge Stones Ridge..A nice walk back down Derwent Edge can be done then following morning..You weren't that far from the old Bamford House ruin either on youre way down that's worth a visit. I just wonder if that was the same night I was on kinder at crookstone knoll Sunday night it was..once the clagg rolled in that was that lol.. Anyway I'm babbling on as I do lol..lovely video mate I like you're style & how you put you're video together..stay safe pal..Andy..

Thank you Andy, really appreciate the kind words mate! Thank you for the history on the dates and initials, I was sat there wondering if they had any history behind them, so thanks for the info, that’s some top quality Peak District knowledge right there👌. I think it must’ve been the same night as I remember looking over to Kinder and just being able to see the Eastern section before it was engulfed in clag, not a breath of wind and very mild!! Freaky conditions for the Peaks. you must’ve been sat at Crookstone looking in my direction! 😁 Cheers Andy, appreciate it! 👍

I’ve been on holiday in Peak District this week and I have done both Derwent Edge hike and White Edge/Curbar Edge hike and also Hope to Mam Tod along the Ridge purely because I have seen your vlogs. Thank you!

Great stuff Alex. Really nice atmosphere with the mist and birds calling. That was the first place I camped in the Peak District back in the early 80s with my brother. I never forget that night a hot summer evening. Thanks for bringing back the memories. ATB

Another great wild camp, lovely little spot. I have never had good weather on Derwent Edge yet, hopefully next time! Last time was heavy rain and very strong winds, with clag limiting visibility to about 10 to 15 metres. It was still a fun challenge to navigate in. Calm and dry down at the reservoirs that day though, shows what a little altitude can do to the weather. You might not have had the views but what a relaxing camp. Great filming as always. A Derwent Edge hiking video sounds like a great idea. And doubtless a camp up at Crow Stones is coming 😁

@@alexcripps.outdoors Weather was great today, Tuesday 25th, so made it up Kinder via the Grindsbrook. Bit of a challenge at 74 with a dodgy knee! But did it! Came back via the edge that leads to Ringing Roger - then went to the cafe for a pasty, cake and 2 lattes. 😋 Living the dream!

I'm wary of camping on Derwent edge these days, last time I camped up there my mate and I were approached by game keepers who were a bit hostile to start with. After a chat, and reassuring them we wouldn't leave a mess (and showing them a carrier bag of rubbish we'd picked up) they ended up leaving us alone. We were in an elixir 3, the light grey version, which kind of stood out like a sore thumb lol.

Hi Alex, I really want to get into Wild Camping and your videos are some of the best I have watched. Can I ask often you are moved on and by who up on Kinder Scout - thinking Woolpacks area to get started. Cheers mate
@Karma-qt4ji Жыл бұрын
I did my first wild camp on Thursday night at Woolpacks. There were two other tents in the same region, one was a couple who were on their first wild camp in the area and the other two youngish lads. Pitch late, leave early and leave no trace. There are day hikers aplenty, people like us looking for a cheeky wild camp and no one else - you will not be asked to move on unless you behave like a muppet and then it will be one of the other campers who asks you. I agree with Alex about some of the rubbish lying around up there and I came down with quite a collection. I recommend you collect water before you get to the moors as I only just had enough to keep me going. BTW, if you doing it from Edale side, take coins to pay for parking (7 quid for 24 hours - coins or app only and there is *no* signal lol) and the really important bit - stop for a coffee and a piece of cake at the Penny Pot Cafe next to the station. Good people, good coffee, good apple cinamon cake; they arranged change for my parking and they didn't mind how badly I smelt when I got down hahahaha. They deserve the business! Good luck mate!!

I generally go to edale as car park is safe. Where do you park your car on this one?
@alexcripps.outdoors Жыл бұрын
Yes Edale is great for a safe car park. I parked in a lay-by just out of the valley, not the safest but my car is 11 years old and not the sort of car someone would want to steal 😁

@Alex Cripps is heatherdene car park opposite ladybower a 24 hour? I don't think it is but not 100%?
