Back Up Camera Install 2005 to 2021 NISSAN Frontier

In today’s episode of DIY WILLY we're installing the NATIKA (Model WD-011) reverse camera in the 2012 NISSAN Frontier extended cab. The camera will go in as close as possible to the factory location and be used with an aftermarket Alpine Stereo This is a very easy install and a perfect project for the true DIY'er. After completing the install I cut the purple wire on the harness to switch the camera from the sitting to the hanging setting mount position and the green wire to remove camera guide lines.
This will be the second time I’ve installed this camera in a Frontier and I try to talk more about the wiring in this video.

Thank you for doing this video it was a huge help!!! I was able to install a backup camera on my 2004 Frontier but the good thing is that on the 04 Frontier there are drain holes on the bottom of the tailgate so drilling a hole into the tailgate is not needed which made the insulation a lot easier!! Keep up the great videos!!!!! 😇👍

When connecting wires to the reverse light, does red and black both go to the black wire. Or black to black , red to orange?

Black to black and red to orange. Gotta keep the polarity correct. Hope this helps and thanks for watching

Hi willy, I end up ordering the JBL GTO939 GTO Series 6x9 JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5 Front and Rear Speakers. Also ordered the wiring harness for the Radio and will be ordering the speaker harness as well. Do i need to buy speaker adapter plates for the speakers in front and rea? Or Can i used my existing ones? Not sure if it was this Video you mentioned how much you like the JBL GTO's But after seeing the review, I end up purchasing them to put on my Frontier. Thanks for your response.

Hello El EVO, You will not be disappointed with those speakers!! I think the 6x9 ‘s have better bass response over the 6.5 but together they will sound amazing. If you mix in a 10” sub under the seat it will blow your mind…. We’ll almost 😅… but seriously those speakers will sound great. 👍 You will not need adapters should screw right in to the factory spots. What head unit did you choose to power them? If you get a chance upload a install video or something. I would like to see your install!! Funny you brought this up tonight. I was just on my way home and was thinking how good the speakers still sounded after couple years of abuse and I mean abuse. I love my music to sound like I’m at the concert.. I think I’m going to do a review on them now after a couple years.. Thinks it’s a good idea?

How do you know what wires are for what in your car? Is it in the car's user manual?

I use a n aftermarket radio for this install. The instruction manual for the radio will say what to attach too. If your trying to install the camera to a factory head unit it’s a total different process not described in the video.

Came back to this video. Do you think there is a way to put the camera under the door handle like Newer Models come? I prefer a cleaner look but if there is no other option, Ill take the safety of having a backup camera before the clean look. From what I understand you can also order a new model plastic Tailgate that has the Section for the Camera all you need to is transfer the Key assembly and in my case probably the Lock and Pop Trunk opener. Thanks for sharing. :o)

Hello ELEVOPR, There are companies that make one pieces handles with camera inside. I have one on my Silverado. That would give you the cleaner look you’re looking for.

@@DIYWilly Thanks for the, from what I have seen, for the Nissan frontier they only make it for like 2013 and up and it has to additional holes at the top of Unit which are covered by the Wing at the top of the tail gate, 2006 did not come with a Wing at the tailgate just a flat Molding. I found a video where person drilled the hole right where the 2013 and up rear cameras are at it it look super clean OEM Style. Here is the link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYGTc3ykgsidacksi=kEmJxzOaOLnglaVF At the 8:54 marker fo the video you will see exactly where he drilled into, I suppose you can do a cutout of that plastic area some if you wanted to push the camera more in? I plan on installing mine like this. Sure beats having to buy a whole you tailgate handle assembly. Also Another option would be Drilling a hole where the Nissan Emblem Half of Moon shape is and put it right there smack in the middle. Just another idea, but i like it under the handle as it seems more OEM For sure and with Cameras gettin getting smaller it is barely visible like the OEM one. Hope you don't mind me posting that link if you do let me know and i'll remove it.

I followed your instructions and the instructions n the kit and now my airbag lights keep flashing.

Hello Dave, There should have been no contact with the air bag system. The only spot that comes close is the hole in the passenger side, where the wires run. Possibly you drilled and the sensor or wires. You should double check there for a damaged sensor or wires. Also there is a air bag system reset procedure. I don’t have a video but here is a link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXmlYnh3d7BpqJI This is a good informative video. There are other videos on this procedure. You just need to google air bag reset. Next time working with the radio or it’s proximity, you should disconnect the negative battery terminal for the duration of the install. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!!

My camera is holding up great. No I mentioned that water came in to the cab from a damaged 3rd brake light seal. Not from the hole in the floor.

@@DIYWilly Got it! Also, out of curiosity, were you able to find Pin 33 of the 48-pin black junction harness at the passenger’s kick panel? My Alpine’s Reverse Light wire needs to tap into that, but I can’t find it. It’s supposed to be a light blue wire…

I think I can do it your way (a little before 10:39). Have the red wire of the backup camera tap into the Orange/White of the Reverse. What’s the difference between the two at the end of the day?

I didn’t connect to pin 33. I used the reverse bypass so I can view the screen any time.

That’s a big screen. Is that the biggest screen that you can get?

Yes I believe so. There are larger screens but would require modification to the area. There are some china brands out there that mount a way from the opening. I never used any of those. I’ll stay with the Alpine. Thanks for watching!!

@@DIYWilly I’ve seen some of those that extend out into the vents. Those look ridiculous. I want one that is big but that can reasonably fit into the existing space. The Alpine seems like one of the best options for that!
