Awesome that its a daily driver, I recently bought my first car, a 1964 Impala SS thats my daily driver, nothing beats turning the key every morning hearing that 327 with dual exhaust or the constant compliments aha.

This episode especially this Impala brings back so much memories. My father use to drive one like this and even it wasnt a red, I still remember the brown body /white vinyl interior and the wind blowing up the whole family faces. Great vid guys.

Good grief that's not a backyard paint job, that's a 10 person on site painting operation. A backyard paint job is 1 person in a backyard with a piece of sand paper and some spray cans, with plenty of wind blowing to top it off.

I had a 67 Impala for several years back in the 80's and loved it. I picked up a 69 Caprice for $300 with a 396, Turbo 400, 12 Bolt posi with 3.42 gears and disc brakes as a parts car. Swapped the complete frame into mine. One thing I added that made all the difference in the world driving the car was a steering box from a late 70's Firebird Trans Am with the WS6 option. It was a bolt in swap using the Impala's pitman arm. Less than 3 turns lock to lock with great feedback. Good luck!

Love the wide whites! Not enough people are willing to go that way, but the car rocks those tires with that paint now. The thing I would do next, if not already done in previous episodes, would be chasis upgrades. Nothing drastic, but maybe a larger sway bar, disc brake upgrade( maybe convert rears?). Minor things to improve safety and handling on highways.

The new color looks great! I love the new wheels and big whitewalls. Since the car already has a new crate motor and tranny, I'd upgrade to 4-wheel disc brakes (Wildwood?) next. If it's going to be a daily driver, safety should be be a high priority.

Great project! Amazing that you could do it over a weekend. Very smart choice of scope for the project, and for managing realistic expectations for results. Now you have a fun to drive hobby car. Using the same savvy approach to make it a more fun daily driver, how about some interior restoration? Or maybe some suspension/brake upgrades?

Simple reliable LS motor, The car is a cruiser so I'd say ls1. Proven reliability, gas mileage, and relatively cheap. Just modernize suspension and possibly trans and diff depending on condition. The Car aesthetically looks perfect in my opinion. I love the feeling of accomplishing something on my own, creates a bond. Keep it up

I spent a few hours thinking about this and the only thing I can come up with is an air ride suspension. Not to be able to drop it to the ground, but for that much more stable a ride and comfortable floating cruising. Otherwise it looks darn fine as is.

ITs called puke green and I had a couple cars painted like it. Seemed that it was a standard colour back years ago. I painted my first car at 15, was doing body work at 14 and once you do one, you really do own the car. There is a pride in doing it yourself, even if there are drips and sags and bubbles. Its your fingerprint!

When I was a kid, about a million years ago, my parents had a 59 impala wagon in factory dark red. I have always thought that was the color those huge ass cars looked best in. I think your's would look great in it too. But first you'd need to cover up the hideous shade on it now. If you were going to use a red, why not go with a factory color instead of crimson? Yup, I agree with most of the other commenters, it's still the most hated project car, but don't sell it, try try again. Factory red, or very dark blue. Fun idea to paint in one day, but next time shoot for three or four days and get it right.

It looks a HELLUVA lot better now, and it is impressive you did that in the yard. Gotta love that CA weather. As far as what to do with the car..... I think it would look good with a small cowl hood and some bigger inch Rally wheels, and maybe a M-22 and a Gear Vendors. But, what you should really do with it..... ENJOY IT!!!!

Oh and big chrome wheels sounds like sacrilige but it definitely adds to the look of these older rides. You don't have to go obnoxious with 26'' wheels but some 20's would help that thing A LOT!!! It's your car you can do what you want but once you see it done that way you'll realize you're not losing anything by ditching the white walls. You don't even necessarily have to go lowpro on a car like that with a larger set of rims. you could probably get away with some 155's no problem.

I'm not a fan of red cars. But since you decided to go with red I suggest a white interior. Some rally wheels with black tires. Those wide white walls are not correct for the year. I'm a veteran of a few backyard paint jobs and you guy did a great job!

I think that it should be a daily driver. I rebuilt a 1968 limited edition Chevrolet Caprice from the ground up back in 1980. That girl road and drove so good, that it become my daily driver for years until I was offered more than twice of what I had invested in it, so I let her go intending to find me a 1967 SS 396 Chevelle, my favorite muscle from the past to rebuild from ground up. Sad to say I never found the right one for me at the price I would have had to buy it for. And I have regretted selling my Caprice ever since. At age 63, I still have the dream of rebuilding me a 1967 Chevelle SS 396 or 427!!!

Guys, while I admire your effort (and the cute blonde with the pony tail) - on a large square flat car like an impala, a large flat dull red just amplifies the squareness and any and all ripples in the body. I can't offer a suggestion on a better colour since I'm a Ford guy and I think all Chevys look better when on fire; but red and puke green are two fails. Maybe silver? With flames? Give Chip Foose a call and ask, seriously, he helped with suggestions for my 67 Mustang...

Summit Racing's website lists a Paint Shop Starter Kit for $183 and the corresponding paint gun (gravity feed, not compressed air powered) for $144. What else would one need to buy before they attempt a respray of a car, or do those two products cover the operation? If so, $327 (plus $150 for primer, paint and clearcoat) and a lot of free time sounds much better than $2000-$4000 professional respray.

Traditional Hot Rod red with a satin finish? It's an interesting and unique twist. Very nice. She looks and sounds the part if the car were mine I'd keep it simple; tidy the interior and maybe a white power hood to go with the tyre walls (as we get more rain than you over here a decent roof is as important as the engine in the UK). ;-)

Get rid of the white walls and get some nicer looking wheels. That will go a long way towards making it look better. And as someone else suggested, do a nice stripe down the side. That will break of the plain paint on the side and make it more interesting to look at.
