Scotty Cameron Putters feel superb, have sold consistently well over the years and look very nice out on the golf course. Are they actually worth the money? Here is the HONEST TRUTH!
There are so many putters out there on the market right now, these are the putters that often make the headlines. TAYLORMADE TP HYDRO BLAST BANDON 3 PUTTER, ODYSSEY WHITE HOT OG PUTTER, COBRA KING VINTAGE SPORT-60 PUTTER, ODYSSEY ELEVEN PUTTER, SCOTTY CAMERON PHANTOM X 12 2022 PUTTER, EVNROLL ER11VX PUTTER.
The scotty cameron putters have gone up against all of these putters, especially the Taylormade Spider Mini putter.
Golfers can spend thousands on golf equipment, as it isn't cheap! So we are going to be talking about why Scotty Cameron putters are so expensive and whether or not they’re worth it.
Golfers are willing to pay a lot of money for Scotty Cameron but are they actually made from premium materials, do they feel super good? And most importantly will they improve your game of golf!
Scotty Cameron putters are priced well over £250... and are one of the most expensive putters on the market.
There has been so many golf reviews and golf product reviews on the golf youtube, whether that is from Peter Finch, Rick Shiels, Mark Crossfield...The list goes on.
Here is our HONEST take on Scotty Cameron putters.

On putter price point. For me it’s the most important club alongside the drive, so they are cheap by comparison. I bought mine about 10years ago for £182 and people are buying the same model on eBay for £130 so they definitely hold their value. However, for that price they aren’t custom fit enough as opposed to a £425 Edel. I’ve just gone for a full Edel fitting and it was 2hrs and amazingly detailed. I’d rather pay the extra and be fitted if you want to spend the cash but off the shelf I’d go the other way.

@@neilcampion5265 Hi, Club fitting and the actual club are two separate things for me. I have no problem paying for custom fitting, but i find some the clubs are becoming over priced for the casual golfer since covid.

I bought my first SC in 1997 (Black Newport), received my second as a Staff pro in 2000 (Newport MidSlant). Shot my best round ever in a Sectional tourney. 65 with 21 putts. My wife games it now, she putts so well with it I can't get myself to take it out of her bag. I bought a mint X11 on Ebay, and loved it. However, i miss the blade design. I bought a shop model 2018 Laguna... This one is my dream putter. Perfect weight, my BlastMotion numbers are nearly perfect, and I love taking it out of the bag to practice with it... everyday. As a side note, if i chose to sell any of them i would receive at least the same price that i paid. So they are really not that expensive.

I game a Scotty. It's a Flowback 5.5. If I'm being honest, I don't putt any better or worse than the Wilson putter it replaced, but for some reason I get excited to use the Scotty every time I pull it out of the bag.

Just had a putter fitting done by one of the top 25 fitters... was an incredible experience. After a little tweaking to my stroke and hitting a bunch of different putters and getting info back on all of them. It came down to the Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2+ and the Bettinardi 28 Studio Stock. My numbers and feel were better with the Bettinardi so I went that route. I still will likely in the future pick up one of the Scotty Camerons. But they are both in the same price range. So yes... you get what you pay for in putters. A lot of putter brands are just getting more and more expensive, but the mid tier ones are starting to catch up in price. I paid 400-450 US for the Bettinardi/Scotty Cameron. Most of the other putters are 300-350.

I had a brand new 2022 limited run Special Select Jet Set Newport Plus which retails at over £1000! It’s absolutely beautiful, but it felt more like a collectors piece than a club I wanted in the bag. I’ve stuck with my 2002 white hot 2-ball which I’ve had from new and has always worked well for me. I’d definitely prefer performance over luxury.

I have played an Odyssey putter for years and it worked well for me, but recently I bought a Odyssey Dual Force Rossie 1 at a yard sale for $10 just for fun. Well the Rossie hasn't left my bag since the first day I played it at the course. I love the balance and the feel of the ball off of the face. I take both to the practice green and the Rossie always wins out.

I've had virtually every brand in the past but it just suits me the balance is so good I feel all I have to do is set it in motion and let it swing all I think about is pace . One thing you didn't mention is looks and the Tiger factor it just makes you WANT to practice . So I have to say yes theyre worth it to me .

I do have a Scotty Cameron California Monterey. It's been to the custom shop, blue weights, blue dots, blue pistolero grip. It has amazing feel but the plumbers neck just had too much toe flow. I bought a Bettinardi SS28 slot back with a single bend shaft, 1/4 toe hang and it's been $ on the course. So, no matter how shiny something is the specs need to be right for you. The milled face of both have excellent feel. I used a Odyssey Rossy for 25 years and the insert, which I thought was soft, is nothing like a milled face.

I tried a Newport Super Select and was really underwhelmed. I loved the ping PLD and tried the Scotty bc it was actually cheaper than the ping. The ping felt softer off the face and heavier even though they have the same weight specs. The stock lie angles I think fit my swing better on the ping (but that’s just me). Having said all that, I use the original Odyssey 2 ball and my putting is actually pretty good and it’s hard to justify the ping’s price tag just for the feel.

I own 4 putters all picked up second hand. I have tried NO 7, 2 Ball Tens, 2 Ball White Hot , Kirkland KS1 . The best preforming is the Odyssey 2 Ball hands down £35-50 with a 5.0 grip £10 ebay . Every round is 18 stroke less than a blade putter. I picked a Kirkland KS1 at £140 weight system £50. It is ok, at homing in puts further than 20ft, simply not as good as 2 ball. For the coolness I really wanted the blade putter it to be the one : (

So I have been a center shafted putter for 15 years , Odyessy was the only game in town. I had a 2 ball , then a CG#7. I putted good but never really could tell a good put from a slightly missed putt. Since center shaft putters are rare my choices where limited. After checking out a few newer brands I noticed that putter where getting more expensive…or the same as a Scotty Cameron. The center shafted TaylorMade was $350 US and a Scotty was $399 …… Same as another Italian brand I thought was a good fit. I went with a Scotty , now I could not find one new and bought one from EBAY for $350 used ….. listen Scotty putters hold there value like a Ferrari and they are the best made, or they have brought the quality of all brands up. I now feel every putt that is pure …. They thing is I make many putts that don’t feel so great too. The big deal is if you have confidence with the putter and the technique of the player. I was an avid rock climber , I will tell you that stainless steel 604 lasts 5-7 years if installed near oceans. Stainless 603 ….. 100 years. Something is fishy with the cheaper more popular 604.

Great discussion. I just bought my son a Scotty Cameron for Christmas. It cost $429 US dollars and I got a 10% members discount, but it was still expensive. I told my son that for that kind of money, if he misses putts, it’s his stroke because the putter can’t make mistakes. I personally wouldn’t spend the money because I am doing all right with my Rife putter with a mid-size Super Stroke grip. I keep stats on every stroke I take and I average about 31-33 putts per round which is about right for my age/handicap level. I also have 2 Odyssey 2-ball putters, a Ping B-61, and an old Acushnet Bulls-eye putter which does remarkably well on short-to-mid-length. But, what I told my son is that putting is a function of feel and confidence. I think you can get feel with any descent putter if you practice often, but confidence comes with performance success. I think confidence with the Scotty Cameron is built in because it is about as important perfectly manufactured as a club can be. Maybe my Rife putter isn’t as perfectly made, but it works for me. I will let you know how it’s working for my son after we next play. Nobody questions whether the SC is a superior putter, only if you want to spend that much for it. Well, if your dad’s paying for it,then it’s worth it.

Had a GOLO 3 that I bought used. Played it for one season, didn't see any marked improvement in my scores. I see Scotties used online and laugh because sellers want the retail price for a 2-3 year old club. Same with retailers. Putter has been on the shelf since 2020, and they refuse to drop the price. Then they wait for it to become 4-5 years old and then call it a 'classic' design. Yes the putters are nice. Yes they use quality materials. Yes everyone wants one for snob appeal. I refuse to pay $600 for a putter though. To be honest, over the last several years I have only seen a couple guys who were impressive putters and were bagging a Scotty. Many 'good' putters were using Odyssey putters or Cleveland putters. Right now I use a L.A.B. Directed Force putter. It gets me much closer on lag putts than other brands. I still make the same number of 3-6 footers, but do seem to make more 8-12 foot putts than with other brands. Now I would only find a Scotty in my bag if I won a raffle or a prize at a tournament.

I have passed on a used SC (California Monterey) as well as an Odyssey, that I tried for a few days, in favor of a TM Ardmore 3 TP patina collection in what looked like "never used" condition (for a $100). I definitely feel better with a mallet. But also didn't feel the SC in less good condition than the TM was worth the asking price, near double. Has my putting improved? Yes definitely, but In the end, the improvement came from my will to improve it, i;e: many hours of drills on my living room rug and practice green, not from the putter.

So many variables are available, weights, shape, face weight, counter balance, toe hang etc. My Select M1, with would never part with it. Aircraft aluminium and stainless steel wrap around. It just works. £429 but money well spent. Remember Bettinardi are more expensive and the other American made one who's name I have forgotten for now, begins with a P. Tiger uses one. If it’s an incrementally better putter than the rest… well, I seem to have paid quite the premium for what… 1% better than the rest? But it does give me a sense of confidence when I play… so that’s something I suppose about it’s quality

If a Scotty, (or whatever other brand is the putter that works for you), the price isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things. Sure it can be daunting to have the cash to layout all at once, but if you get the right one and play it for years the cost per year is minimal. I've always been on a budget for golf stuff, but playing twice a week, I skipped a meal with the couple of drinks after the round for a couple months and it was paid for. served me well for 7 + seasons now.

Tiger helped so much with his trusty model and so people thought if he has one so will I and putt like him. Again you are correct with the ego of people wanting to show they have one in their bag. I had one used it a few years but got rid of it and went back to the original Odyssey 2 ball a putter that suits me as you both comment getting fitted for a putter is as important if not more so than any other club.

Fell in love and did more research and found an awesome community behind the resellers. At one point I tried going back to ping and I couldn’t do it. I went back 1 month later and now have more than one. I sent my gamer to the custom shop and collect head covers, ball markers, etc. It’s a fun community to be a part of and I don’t see me going back to any other brand. 10/10 recommend. I purchased a Hogan Sure-in-One putter in the 90's for $125. That was Scottie price back then too. I loved the feel and the way it played for a very long time. A few years back, I upgraded to a Ping Sigma2 Wolverine H. I didn't really like the look, but it felt amazing. I dropped from an average 35-40putts per round to an average of 33 putts per round. ..,now how that relates to Scottie Cameron putters..I have always tried them, primarily because of the name... In around the year 2000, I found a Scottie that felt absolutely amazing. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a $250 putter. Since then I have always tried Scottie's on stores. I didn't find that feel. I have found the each one feels different. Last year I found a Scottie Phantom X that felt even better than the one I tried years ago. It was $450.,.ouch. But I purchased it. It is BY FAR the best feeling putter I have ever tried. I have now dropped a few more putts per round...even doing an incredible 28 ppr a couple of times. I don't think the name on the putter makes a difference or improves your playing. I believe the FEEL is the most important factor. That feel of the ball coming off so incredibly soft and controlled. It gives you confidence

You're paying 50% extra for a name trusted on tour. Odyssey are just as good and they could probably sell them for a lot more considering the amount of pros that use them. Anyone buying their first "real" putter should try an Odyssey.

If you look at a SC Newport, and compare it to the Costco putter, the design is the same so that name is very dear indeed.

Too much for me, appreciate that putter you use most so should be the club you spend cash on. However it is feel that matters I have a Ben Ross blade style putter, £70, in the shop I sank 8 out ten putts. It’s just as good on the course, I often think it’s the ape swinging the club that makes the biggest difference

It is only in line with the trend… the biggest cie in the world is a fashion hight luxury company… and this company has the biggest margins! People likes to have “what they consider” as beautiful and exclusive things… paying 200$ more for a putter… it is not so bad to exhibit a kind of jewel ;)

I have owned two Camerons. I still have the Del Mar among other brands but the Cameron is the one I go to. It isn’t a magic wand but it works better than most in my hands. That is why I have kept it in my bag all these years. I must admit that I am thinking of trying the Costco Kirkland putter. It is a good looking putter that seems well made. At about a third of the price of a SC putter, I might be worth buying. I would be interested in your impression.

Putters I don't see any difference in them in quality based on price or name To me your technical ability at putting and green evaluation skills is what sees the ball going in the hole Each putter obviously has a physiological response as you hold it but I don't think a brand new putter which I love the look n feel of is going to turn me into a gun putter when my technical skills and green reading skills are the same level

100% worth it if you own one, does everybody need one? Absolutely not. No one sneezes at buying a Driver for nearly 600 pound but the same folk will also say a Scotty Cameron is overpriced when it’s the most used club in the bag per round…

I think Putters are becoming too expensive. There’s no way I’d Pay over £300 for a SC when my Ping Anser works perfectly well and I’ve had it for 30 years. The Putting element of Golf takes time to understand, and getting to a level where you hole out consistently, doesn’t happen because you have £300 to spend.

Circle T putters are stupid money, period. In general SC are priced at what fools will pay. If you’re not good they won’t help. I have a tm x spider which was stupid enough, but works for me.

Expensive for the sake of marketing position and profit. Sure they look nice and all, but no putter is going to magically make me a +5 golfer. I putt the same with a $12 used putter as I do with the Cleveland I bought this year(I'm a 1-2 hdcp). Every brand offers the same iterations of popular designs that are tried and true. If I was gifted one I'd try it. But I wouldn't pay for one full price. I'm confident I'd still be making 28-34 putts a round either way. Practice and playing on smoother greens makes way more difference. Our greens are beat up. 400-500 rounds a day. I make more putts when I can play nicer greens.

Well here's the question that all should have asked how good of a putter are you? You still got a lot of work to do in that department than No Scotty Cameron is not right for you. How often can you repeatedly hit the center of the clubface in The Sweet Spot like tiger who's literally worn out The center of his face? If You don't have the skills to do find The Sweet Spot 8 out of 10 then a Newport 2 is probably not for you. For consistent Putters, Scotty Cameron is priceless as you see with many scratch handicap amateur golfers and over 50% of wins on tour last year used a Cameron putter.

I always repeat test putters and dial it down to those that feel good, perform well and do the job day in day out. Always test them all but have never found a Scotty come anywhere near a selection and frequently a much cheaper option has won. Really do not see what all the hype is, maybe paying for the name and snobbery value.

Let people buy what they want. Who cares honestly. Some people want a $300+ putter. Others want to use a $10 putter from the thrift store. As long as you're having fun, making putts and can genuinely afford it, who cares. Don't choose a Scotty Cameron over paying your rent. But if that's your situation you have bigger problems. I have a $100 Cleveland, $250 Odyssey and a $500 Scotty Cameron, and have loved and disliked all of them over the years. At the end of the day they all put the ball in the hole for me.
