@asteranx2 жыл бұрын
As a game developer, I can say that trying to prevent people like Josh from doing stuff like this is a bad idea, and the Raft devs clearly know this. You're far better off writing a game that will just deal with whatever the player throws at it because you never ever know how a player will approach it and what you want is for every player's style to be valid. This is doubly true in open ended games like this that thrive off of player expression. So I wouldn't say that the game wasn't properly tested, or that it should somehow prevent him from stringing up tons of ziplines; I would say that it was properly implemented, even if it was never tested for this particular scenario, insofar as it allows him to do this without buckling under the strain or crashing outright. And for that reason it succeeds. Note that standard testing methods are still important for games, but the focus isn't so much in ensuring that the user is properly constrained to the limits of the program, but that the program responds well to having its limits pushed by the user.
@Krakenfall2 жыл бұрын
That's a good point! I was partially alluding to that with my comment about the developers having designed the game to withstand the many zipline system. I guess I'm coming from the perspective that the game lacks polish because of the many janky scenarios that a user will definitely experience that have huge bugs in them (such as the unloading island bug). I do want to make it clear that I love Raft the way it is and I'm not making this point to be negative - it's just the way it is. To your point, it's a testament to Redbeet Interactive's work that the game doesn't buckle under LGIO's testing. Raft is fantastic!
@Krakenfall2 жыл бұрын
One thing I didn't talk about is the age-old compromise between quality, money, and time. Redbeet Interactive clearly doesn't have unlimited resources, so I agree with you that they successfully implemented the game for the extreme majority of players. I think you've convinced me - in the video, I was advocating testing for testing's sake, a fatal flaw of a tester 😂

13:00 The answer is sort of. You can use a heat source to speed up the "drying phase" to a degree, but bricks are made by first drying and later firing them in a kiln. If the drying phase is rushed and moisture is still inside when you fire it, the brick will litterally explode in the kiln.

If you bake a brick it will explode, you have to wait until it's completely dry which even then if the inside isn't dry yet it will explode as the water turns to steam. You want them to dry slow and evenly, it dries too quickly and you'll just trap the water inside it.

IRL I'm pretty sure you can bake bricks but you gotta be careful to do it slow enough at a limited temperature, that's because doing it fast would massively increase the chance of the brick breaking or at least to come out more brittle than it should be and that would pretty much defeat it's purpose. Plus, in the game you need bricks first to unlock the smelter and the only fires you have beforehand are the ones for food and water which are not really ideal because they are small, uneven, and it would be difficult to control the temperature. That said the game is not made to be realistic so they could add that possibility if they haven't already. Maybe they could simply add a little condition that if the brick is within a certain distance from a lit fire it would reduce the drying time by somewhat percent.

17:34 I was going through another playthrough of Raft inspired by LGIO and I can confirm the explosion does hurt you. You can survive it on a full healthbar though (I remember it doing about 60% of your healthbar?)

Hmm discovering Josh from Let's game it out? If you love playing games the full vanilla way you in for some full horror stuff my friend. 🤣 Also the nice thing about builder games is even after hundreds and hundreds of hours, there is always something new to learn.

As far as I know, the Satisfactory devs have a good relationship with Josh (he was even in one of their update videos), and do actually value him as a "stress-tester" for the game. Wouldn't be too surprised if the same is true for other games.

Bruce is a joke from jaws, cause that's what they called the mechanical shark, it broke down, didnt work, and was all round temperamental and it was named after Spielberg's lawyer. I named the shark bruce also because of it 😂

On the game testing front, I'd recommend the Satisfactory episode where they introduced trains!

Josh was actually a beta tester so it used to be his job, that's why he breaks stuff, he basically just tests games for bugs and takes the bugs to ridiculous levels. it's awesome
