most c mount vintage lense were made for a 16mm film frame , which is larger than the go pro sensor, finding a good wide angle lens will be hard but I like your work
@BACKBONEca5 жыл бұрын
Correct, Bolex are largely 16mm format which results in a crop factor of roughly 2.05x on the GoPro. 10, 12 & 13mm Bolex lenses are relatively common for around $100 and provide a medium/wide field of view. Wide 8mm & 5.5mm are also available but usually cost a bit more. D-Mount, which is largely designed for 8mm film is pretty much a perfect match for the sensor size in the GoPro and results in a crop factor of almost 0. We sell a simple adapter ring for those lenses as well. Here's a link to a video shot with vintage Bolex & D-Mount on one of our Hero4 mods which has the same sensor size as the Hero7: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eanKYp59itOensk

The BB modification doesn't change the physical capabilities of the GoPro CMOS sensor. However, larger lenses do culminate more light onto an equal square area of the sensor so you have some added capabilities by using different lenses vs. the very small stock GoPro M12 lens. In the end- the biggest advantage to a Back-Bone modified GoPro camera isn't the improvement to their sensors low-light capabilities.

The only reason why you might want to use this is if you want to set it somewhere steady and lets it film without the need to change focus etc, and that is because this is a tiny camera and has 4k60fps which many more expensive cameras don't have. And that microscope attachment is pure gold. I can find many reason why this has a reason to exist (Hero8 also has mods). BUT If you are an average user and you want to use it as a good camera then forget about it, the price of this is close to professional cameras that can do a lot more for the said price and if you want you can add a little bit more and get yourself an even more professional camera. The Hero8 is 849USD already and there are cameras that has far more options for video than this. Remember that GoPro is an action camera and the company gives focus to this. IF gopro ever makes this by default and offers auto focus then they will kill the market for sure. For 849USD and auto focus with the GoPro artificial intelligence and ultra smooth stabilization, people would be running for their money. The only next reasonable purchase would be a bmpcc4k because of the higher bitrate and higher sensor.

Some of us are engineers and modify electronic equipment on a daily basis. The Hero's 5-7 are very easy to disassemble and modify. @@davidf1659 The CMOS sensor assembly on the Hero 5, 6 & 7 are single permanently glued assemblies. Even if you could separate the CMOS sensor from the assembly- you have no way to optically align the new component assemblies and accurately set the flange distance. It's not just about re-assembling individual components which was offered on the Hero 3 and Hero 4 cameras by BB.
@davidf16595 жыл бұрын
@@@photoguru3786 Hi again yes I fully understand how every component of the hero cameras (now 5-8) are assembled, as well as where each component is manufactured outside of the US and then installed by GoPro engineers. Many of us engineers understand this fully. As for the CMOS sensors, they would not be touched. The mounting flange is just a custom perpendicularly bolted aluminum 12.5526 mm piece CNC milled to accept a CS-mount (or whatever adapter), then a regular lens. If the pro lens is heavy, obviously a support would be needed but all of this is very easy using minimal equipment. Still a shame you can't send us the kit. Get an M12 adapter for each - focus them and lock them in. That way you can change the lens & adapter at the same time without losing your focus. You might also consider a set of ND filters! If you want to get some nice shots with blurred backgrounds etc, get a 16 or 25mm C-Mount lens and shoot with the iris opened up. Karma grip is a great gimbal for it when using M12's

BACK-BONE thanks for suggestions brother !! What is the best setting for video and slow motion for GoPro 7 Black ???
@BACKBONEca4 жыл бұрын
@@adilrobot708 we usually shoot in protune mode @ 4K/30 or 24. In general we find these shooting settings the best: Protune ON, EV Comp -0.5, White Balance: Native, ISO Max 800, Sharpness Medium, Color Flat. You will need to grade the color in post with those settings but it will give you more freedom and a more cinematic look. If you're live streaming stick with the GoPro defaults. If the camera is on a tripod turn the stabilization off. For slow motion 4K/60 or 2.7K/120 are our faves.
I understand the reasoning behind this (basically using ANY camera and adapting it to your needs) but honestly, if you're working with something photography related, you're probably better off getting something like a D750 and modifying that, which may be even cheaper.
@photoguru37865 жыл бұрын
It's not about "using ANY camera and adapting it to your needs". This won't work on DSLR style cameras with much larger sensors. It's about having a small form factor camera that can be mounted to virtually ANY lens in the world (from a microscope to a telescope), recording quality 4K-30/60 and controlling your filters i.e. IR, NIR etc. It's like owning a dedicated screw driver for EVER application, or one screwdriver with interchangeable bits that does everything :) Yes, a DSLR camera with a full frame sensor will always outperform a modified Back-Bone camera in a straight photographic comparison.
@riveraluciano5 жыл бұрын
PhotoGuru I understand what you mean, but if you're willing to spend enough money to modify a 500usd camera (idk how much the hero7 retails at now), you probably have access to other types of camera that could do the job better. I know I'm just speculating, and many people will surely use this as an alternative, but i just can't think of someone who is interested enough in photography not to have a dslr or a cheaper mirrorless or even a point and shoot they can use instead of this. Don't get me wrong, the possibilities this brings (being able to attach pretty much any lens) is amazing. I just can't get past what I mentioned earlier.
