Born and raised in MN. Stared down that ice hole for many hours as a kid. Lived here in North Idaho for nearly thee decades now. Burbot seem to be a big deal on the Kootenai River in Boundary County. Never knew they were the exact fish called an eelpout on Mille Lacs lake in Minnesota. Learn something new everyday. You might check out the Eelpout festival on Mille Lacs. Apparently, it's a big deal. Keep it up guys. Never figured I'd find myself watching other folks ice fish after a childhood of ice fishing. No regrets!

Love the new online content like this. That can-am would have been fine though, that is what it's made for. Can't imagine spending $30k on that just to leave it onshore. Should have taken snowmobiles if you were that concerned about it. I'm sure you'll get it dialed next time though... Also, try chumming the holes next time for cusk, especially on a multi day trip like that. Anything smelly may work, I like cans of cat food personally. They also bite best at night. Not sure what the regs are in MT, but here we're allowed to set special cusk rigs during the night. No live bait or tip ups allowed, as this would be too effective on lake trout, so pretty much cut bait or dead minnow on the bottom tied to a spruce bow. Wake-up and pull up your breakfast.

Midwest rule, when you set a tip up do not grab the spool. Good chance of the fish getting off, pull the tip up and let the line run for a bit. Then get the slack out, once you feel the fish that’s when you set

My version of poor man's lobster: (no burbot here so I usually do it with lakers) Cube meat and blanch in water that is salted and with sugar for about 5 minutes. Strain and place the cubes on a sheet pan. Generously sprinkle ol bay and cover with parmesan cheese (not that green can crap) and broil until the cheese is lightly browned. Melt some butter for dipping. Enjoy!

Real nice video guys, I enjoyed that. I haven t gone icefishing for years, but this video might just inspire me to have a go this winter. Perhaps not with all that equipment tho ;-) As a sidenote: A traditonal method of catching Burbot over here (in northern Sweden) is to stun them trough the ice with a blow from a mallet. You then make a hole in the ice and pick em up. Only works if you have real clear ice/water of course.
