Thankfully modern compressors can fill a bottle in mere minutes, and are much quieter. On top of that, the new computerized models can fill multiple packs, and will automatically shut off once they're full. So, you could theoretically swap out the bottles, set the new ones to charge in the compressor, and go to bed, never having to worry about it. I say theoretically, because no station chief will let that happen, and *someone* will be up an extra few minutes to make sure the bottles are full.
@forestdenizen64974 жыл бұрын
@@Tank50us that's not because of "modern" or "computer" anything tbh. Pressure sensors and solenoid actuated valves, and high output, high pressure compressors have existed since before ww2. Safety has just been prioritised / budget increased.

It helps that the exact year that this is meant to take place is left ambiguous. I'd assume it was the early 90s\late 80s since the film was released in 1991 and the best is consistent with the standard issue year between 1988 and 1997.

@lorddrayvon14264 жыл бұрын
The only thing that reveals its age is probably the cinematography. It's not bad but it is very early 90s in that the framing and pacing is very similar to something like The Towering Inferno where the film is a classic whilst also looking outdated. Not as bad as Towering Inferno, which looks very cheap and shoddy at points which is especially evident in the apartment scenes at the beginning of the movie, but it just looks old when compared to the more modern shooting teqniques. Not neccisarily a problem but more of personal tasete. I love the action setpieces even if it looks a little old. However, that is a nitpick and the film does otherwise hold up.

I had to complete an advanced firefighting course about a year after the movie came out (due to working somewhere so remote that YOU are the 'fire bigade' 😂 .) The firemen who instructed us were very clear about why they hated the movie. According to our fire brigade course leader, since the movie they encountered many cases of the public pulling the pin out of their extinguisher and throwing it "like a hand grenade" thinking that it would explode and put the fire out 😂. Apparently, and I seem to remember it is the final scene, this is how the extinguisher is used in the movie. _(just FYI to anyone who doesn't know, extinguishers don't work like grenades. If you try to use them like one you will still have a fire, but no extinguisher 😂.)_ Yep, these guys hated the movie for that reason. _'one stupid movie from Hollywood has undone years of public education'_

Crush Admin for one thing him running in a room that hot with his bunker coat not closed his shirt would have almost instantaneously ignited and burned him severely. Another thing is the absence of SCBA (the mask and air tank firefighters use to breath while in a hazardous environment) he would have breathed in superheated gasses when he entered the room and been dead almost instantly. The way the flames are at the ceiling is called a rollover which occurres at close to 1000 degrees at the ceiling which means that room at floor level is well above any imaginable survivable temperature without properly worn SCBA and full bunker gear. When firefighters enter a room in the real world we are literally crawling to in an attempt to stay below the thermal layer and stay in somewhat cooler temperatures at the floor level due to the fact that heat rises. Now don't get me wrong great movie the love and bond between the fireman is pretty spot on and the love for the job but tactics and survival, totally unreal. But hey that's Hollywood.
@concordetconstabulary2195 жыл бұрын
Lotta firefighters in the comments talking about how unrealistic this is. Okay guys......how would you film this scene? Seriously. You tell us how to film an emotional scene where two brothers try to save people from a burning building, one nearly dies but doesn’t and saved a child in a no win scenario, while illustrating that the younger brother looks up to his brother and in this scene sees him almost like a super hero. Okay you follow me? Now do all that while wearing the correct gear where you can’t even see their faces. Go on. I’ll wait.

@robadob558 жыл бұрын
That wasn't a flashover that was a backdraft. The door bulging in and out "breathing" indicates that the fire has consumed all the oxygen in the room and it was going out. Once he reintroduced oxygen to the fire it shot out the door resulting in the backdraft. Other than that though you're completely right no one would have been alive in that room and both firefighters would have died from carbon monoxide poisoning, superheated air damaging their airway, and lack of oxygen the kid would have been toast too
