THANK YOU for using a ‘bland’ caliber, like .308. I appreciate 6.5 and all the new stuff, but I just like my .30-30, .308 and. 30-06 because they work, ammunition is so available AND affordable. I enjoy your calm, intelligent and fair presentations. When you mentioned Bergara, I knew we were in for a treat! Blessings, Grace and Peace 😊

The rifle arrived today and I dialed in the scope just a couple hours ago kzbin.infoUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL . I haven’t shot with a scope in probably 25 years. The X on the left was my target. (the shot almost in the bullseye on the right X was my father in laws first shot after I made adjustments) The two shots circled are my first 2 shots. Then I brought it down - shot once. Then brought it over to the left. From there zeroed it in to dead center. This all was from 25 yards out. Follow instructions carefully when mounting the scope. So far I'm very happy with the purchase.

A couple of things I appreciate about this rifle is that the LOP spacer is very well designed. I picked one of these up for my father in 350 Legend because he has some health issues that give him problems with recoil. He’s shorter and I had to take the spacer out. I was pleasantly surprised when I removed the recoil pad that the spacer didn’t just fall free, it’s actually screwed onto the other part of the buttstock. The dual sling studs are nice but kind of unnecessary. The trigger is nice, light and very consistent. Accepting Savage round-back (accutrigger) bases means good availability, however the rear scope mounting area is kind of small so be aware not every kind of mount may fit/work…also it’s a proprietary size so you can’t use Savage picatinny rails, but BPI Outdoors does sell rails directly on their site. The soft touch stock makes it grip well if your hands are wet and/or cold, which is nice. Threaded muzzle is also a plus and it’s standard thread pitch (5/8x24, except 450BM it’s 11/16x24 I believe). I smoothed the bolt out by polishing the bare metal part with some polish, then oiled it…runs smooth…overall a nice rifle for the money.

i've been shooting one (6.5 prc) for a couple years and just replaced it with a custom build. After load development, I could shoot 0.5 MOA groups fairly reliably and I'm no ace. But I had feeding issues with mine that spoiled opportunities on an elk and a bear, which was why I replaced it. It miss-feeds, bolt gets stuck, and gets misaligned jammed cartridges. It's hard on brass to the point that the ejector would chip off small flakes that would wind up jamming the firing pin. Case heads would show pressure signs with identical loads much faster than other rifles. The 3 lug design is a nice short throw, but way too heavy to operate while staying on target. If you disassemble the bolt I'd suggest rounding off the corner of the cocking seer ramp to shave several lbs off the bolt throw. I've tried cleaning up the feeding issues but never had any luck. Still for the money and it shoots such small groups? Hard to be that hard on them! For anyone who reloads and is shopping for a 6.5 prc, another plus is that the Cascade is a true long action with plenty of COAL clearance, so you loader longer rounds, like the Berger 156gr. Most 6.5 PRCs are short action and force you to risk a compressed load with bigger projectiles.
@christopherlewis9652
@christopherlewis9652 2 жыл бұрын
this is a great review Jason, almost exactly the same things that I have run into. once i found the right load the brass chips stopped happening. I don't understand why i was seeing pressure signs so early. i hated to see ejector marks on the brass. in fact my ejector pin got stuck down cause of the brass jamming in between pin and body. i still love the gun and will continue using the crap out of it. I do love that the 6.5 prc is built on a long action

Looks all good and fancy, but... I was obsessed to get something in Full stocked wood. And I found it... And the perfect load in .308 as well without having to experiment around. It's a CZ 550 FS in .308 Win, 7,62X51 respectively. The Ammo is a budget priced choice from FIOCCHI consisting of 165grs InterLock SPBT that I had acquired some years earlier for an AR-10 (20inch) Wich I don't own anymore. I am a mediocre rifle shooter who never got a 5inch group under 1,5 moa with said AR or worse, my G3 Duty rifle during my military time in Germany. With this one, right out of the box with self mounted PA 4-14X44 Scope, I was hitting .72 inch and after 4 cicles of 5 rounds I got it down to .48 inch from the start, at a 100 yards indoor range.❤️

Military standards are a "3" shot group. I fully agree with the 3 shot group. Infact, when I'm zeroing a scoped rifle for long range, I will fire "1" shot and wait a minimum of 20 minutes before firing another. - I'm mainly concerned with "1st shot accuracy" of a cold bore.

So I’m in the lower half of Michigan. Below the straight wall cartridge line. I purchased a used CVA scout (.450 bushmaster) with a vortex scope and couldn’t get it to group. I was firm set on moving away from CVA and then upon talking to my local shop about .450’s we landed on this one with a VX-Freedom 3x9 scope and I have to say I am extremely satisfied with it. For the price point this rifle works and is solid. Might have to grab another in a different caliber (that’s how much I like it).

Been looking a LOOONG time for a bolt gun in 450BM looked at offerings from Savage Ruger and CVA unfortunately the cost of the Savage and Ruger were so close to the CVA price I stumbled on and I felt the Cascade was definitely a better made rifle especially the stock for another $100 I went with the CVA as I waited until I found a LGS with a Cascade in stock on sale for darn near $160 less than anyone else and trust me when I say I looked 4-5× a week for a long time As I already had a scope base and rings the extra $100 was acceptable but if I had needed to buy a scope I would have bought the Savage 110 Apex. Really looking forward to see if I can get sub moa with my reloads at 100-200 yards. Bought this gun in 450BM to serve as my public land deer rifle as 12ga sabot slug ammo is now $23-$25 for a box of 5 All I needed to buy to reload 450BM was brass a few bullets (as I already shoot Hornady Interlock and FTX .452" bullets out of my inline ML's) and dies as I had a butt load of suitable bullets primers and powders.
@aidand5941
@aidand5941 Жыл бұрын
Like to add an update. I have a little over 200 rounds of my reloads through my CVA Cascade in 450bm and 25 through the one I bought my son. I used Starline brass (only new unfired brass I could find to buy) Hornady LiL-Gun CCI SMRFLM primers .452" Hornady 245grn Interlocks, Hornady Custom Grade dies and a Lee Factory crimp die didn't bell the case mouth I let the bullet do that for me. The sub-moa accuracy I achieved from both rifles is nothing short of phenomenal and my MV is over 2400fps. Literally didn't fire a single reload out of either rifle that shot over 1" at 100 and all were under 2" at 200. Can not recommend this rifle and cartridge strongly enough.

I really like the objectivity of your reviews. One thing that would be a nice add to your reviews would be to give the viewers a dimension (coal) of the cartridge that will fit in the supplied magazine. This is very valuable information to the handloader when making a decision on a factory rifle (Can I seat bullets out to optimize performance and accuracy). Keep up the good work, and keep the great content coming. Thanks for considering this.

I was going to buy a cva cascade until I held a howa 1500 standard with a hogue stock. it's unbeatable for me, just under $600. less than a .5" barrel with a variety of ammunition. I use the 168gr berger hybrids. it has a threaded barrel. 3-3.5lb HACT trigger. the trigger is 2-stage so not exactly desirable but still a very good trigger. definitely like the howa slightly better than the cva in my opinion.

Nice review. I have a CVA Optima in .45 cal. black powder I shoot deer with black powder season and an Optima 30-06/50 cal. Black Powder /combo. They are adequate but nothing to write home about. The bolt action looks interesting. I am into Savage rifles though. Even though your review on a couple of them were not all that good. I like the Accu-Triggers and the accuracy that I get from them. Not to mention the aftermarket availability of parts. Best part of the review I thought was about the factory ammo. Remington core lock ammunition is what got me into reloading. 4-inch groups at 100 yards are totally unacceptable from any ammo. Nice video glad you explained your 3 shot group evaluation. It makes sense. Bench shooters primarily want at least 5 shots. It really gives a better indicator on flyers. Even when doing a standard deviation to get a real reliable number it requires at least 10 shots. Nice content and very good review.

3 shot groups are completely adequate for hunting. The only thing you should be shooting more than 3 times is Grizz/Brownie or African dangerous 7. If more than 3 shots are needed for any ungulate than practice more, study animal anatomy more, and use bullets that actually penetrate.

Any news on the 7mm PRC?! Man I want to sling a 180gr ELDM at 3000fps in a hunting rifle without 28 nosler level recoil
@noahhorinek
@noahhorinek 2 жыл бұрын
You’ll still get the same recoil because you’d use around the same amount of powder. My guess is that the 7 PRC is going to be a shortened case like the 300 RCM and 6.5 PRC, to take some of the success of a 7 SAUM
@Deerslayer1912
@Deerslayer1912 2 жыл бұрын
You can do that or close to it with 7 WSM, 7 Sherman max/mega, and possibly even a 7 saum
@Nick-sx6jm
@Nick-sx6jm 2 жыл бұрын
If your shooting the same bullets at similar velocities its going to be about the same recoil. No getting around physics. I have a 28 Nosler in a 6 pound rifle and the recoil was stout, but with a break its about 270 level or less.
@masone4589
@masone4589 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the 7 PRC is gonna be long/magnum action not short. I’m guessing the 7 PRC vs the 28 Nosler is gonna look like 300 PRC vs 30 Nosler. Pretty dang close
@noahhorinek
@noahhorinek 2 жыл бұрын
@@masone4589 What Hornady said was that it was going to be based on the 300 PRC, but that could also mean shortening it. All of the cartridges were based on the 375 Ruger, which parented the RCMs and shorter PRCs by proxy. So I'm still saying a shorter 7mm PRC is probably going to happen.

Bought one. Very nice rifle. Did not meet my accuracy standard. Sold it. Bought a Ruger American and the Ruger shoots circles around it. The cascade in 450 BM shot 1-1/2 to 2” at 100 yds. The Ruger right at MOA. I tried 4 loads from different manufacturers and different weights. Mine was a beautiful non performer.

I'm looking at the b14 ridge after reading Jim's page about best rifles around 850 ish. My only hesitation is finding the differences between the Bergara b14 and the CVA cascade. I could save 200$ and get a lighter gun still with a bergara barrel, quality trigger, and fiber reinforced stock.... can someone tell me the main differences?

Was that Remington Core-Lokt 150gr or 180gr. Would make sense if 150gr, as for a .308 with 1:10" twist rate 150gr is the lower limit, whereas the well performing 185 is middle of the optimal range 150-230 found in internet.

I bet you could add noticeable accuracy and repeatability across more cartridges by 2 hrs work, glass bedding the recoil lug and the front of the receiver at the barrel. It's an easy glass bed job that makes a huge difference. Give it a try.
