Love the review. Was actually looking at both these platforms. I liked the overall feel to the Ruger gen2 but the cascade has a bergara barrel. Its just a shame gun stores dont let you try out the platform before you buy. But thats why i watch these reviews. Thanks. ( ended up with the Ruger American predator gen 2 and I love it. )

I have one of each. Both shoot great and handle nice. Ruger has the smoother action. CVA has a better flush mount magazine. You really can't go wrong with either so if cost is driving your purchase the Ruger will serve you well. If you want a more traditional looking rifle the CVA wins.

I bought my daughter a Ruger American gen 2 in 6.5 Grendel. I got her the one with 22” barrel, took the spacer out of the stock and it fits her perfect at 8 yrs old. I mount it to a bog pod tripod and she is good to go. It’s a very accurate little rifle and I’ve grown quite fond of it and the little 6.5 Grendel cartridge. I’ve not shot the Cva cascade but I’ve heard they are great rifles.

So I have a the gen 2 in 6 arc. Several companies are making profit barrels and chassis’s for this rifle. Once you spice the rifle up with chassis and barrel it’s a very very wicked accurate setup. However bone stock I could shoot 1/2” groups with off the shelf Hornady black ammo and 1/4” with my hand loads at 200 yards. That’s with the stock twisted barrel as I own that exact rifle. Mine came with the 10rnd mag for 6 arc. Great little guns Edit: I do also own bergara b14 crest carbon in 6.5prc, SAKO S20 in 6.5prc along with a lot of other high end rifles and the ruger really does perform well or I wouldn’t own it.

Nice comparison. I've been looking at both but found the Cascade to be similar in price actually because it's been around longer and some places usually have some kind of discount on it. The Cascade SB with an oversized nob like you have here can be found for $850CAD. Just keep in mind not all SB have an oversized knob - this might be a "dealer exclusive." I do like the barrel of the American Gen2 and the fact that it comes with a muzzle brake, but it's hard to find it in stock. If it's in stock, it's more than the MSRP.

Thanks for the content, instead of focusing on disparities (ammo, bipod vs bags, weather, etc.) Let's focus on value. 1st. Guarantee 14 days to register with purchase receipt and only to 1st owner with CVA vs Ruger warranty. Ruger. 2nd. Aftermarket support. Ruger. 3rd. I understand CVA is a Bergara made rifle and Ed Shilen from Shilen Barrels consults for them, but Ruger have cold forged hammer barrels as well and your results show on average with fancy and NON-fancy ammo the Ruger overall shoots better. Bergara (just because it had the most precise group, but on average it's Ruger). 4th. 3 different barreled lengths and up to 18 different calibers. Ruger. Example: I have a RAR Gen2 in .223, swapped out the chassis for a STANAG Magpul Hunter Chassis (we all know how practical/convenient/well-built these are) with a Vortex Venom 3-15x44 (It has more than enough magnification for anything I can/may do on this platform). I can use 5 round magazines, but I can also use 40 round magazines from the AR15 platform. Some people want more torque (power), others more precision & accuracy, other are focused on weight or function or something else. I believe in redundancy of platforms based on caliber, I would never own 1 of anything, always 2 or more. Now here is the bottom line for me: That CVA is going to cost 35%-40%, with bad warranty value should I decide to sell, low market support, a better barrel that doesn't shoot that much better and not the variety people may be seeking. Other than "preference" or "because I can"? Absolutely not. (Tikka, CVA, Bergara, really have to do much better for people to justify spending the additional $$$)....Ruger raised the bar for the market, not just the company. BTW: I do own a Bergara rifle.
@Snailz52 ай бұрын
I’ve held both and the cascade feels nicer in the hand. It feels like a more quality item. The Ruger stock is rough and had the hollow cheapy feel while the CVA has the nice soft touch stock and feels more solid. CVA has a better mag and trigger. Ruger has way more aftermarket support. CVA has longer barrel options and the color schemes are more appealing. Ruger has the very attractive spiral fluting. Pros and cons, but I lean CVA cascade head to head.
@TheCodyO3 ай бұрын
Didn’t you show the Ruger has the best average group size? The CVA may have shot the smallest group of the day but it also shot the worst, with a worse average. I would go with the Ruger for the consistency (at least concerning accuracy).

@Zer0Edits003 ай бұрын
Umm, hey..you understand that a smaller group means better accuracy right? You find a cartridge load and bullet that it likes and you KEEP BUYING THAT AMMO. If you can shoot a 0.2 group with factory ammo, imagine what you can get with hand loads.
@TheCodyO3 ай бұрын
@ you do understand that one small group does not mean accuracy right? A sign of a good barrel is a barrel that shoots many types of ammo well. One .2 inch group is not enough to say the gun is inherently any more accurate or even that the ammo is a great fit.

My only comment on accuracy is that you shot the Ruger American with a Harris bipod, and the CVA on a bench rest set up. It would have been nice if you used the same set up on each to really verify the accuracy. Of course we know that CVA is actually Bergara / Dikar Spain, and Bergara is known to hold their own.

Ruger quality seems to be slipping unfortunately. 3 of my cousins have the gen 1 American, and they have issues with them. One just wouldn’t fire a couple weeks ago while he had a deer in his scope. A buddy of mine just bought one in 243 and it just suddenly stopped ejecting rounds easy. You have to use a mallet to rack the bolt and eject the case. He’s waiting to hear back from Ruger about sending it in. I’d take the CVA hands down
