Sorry, forgot to add this: It's also your attitude. When we get to the place of "I don't care" when we go through our death piles...there's no desperation for a sale and pow...the sales come fast. Your enthusiasm soars when there are fast sales which changes the energy in your warehouse and store! I'm so happy for you.

I think it’s when we learn to take the emotions out of business and start to think of the items we’re selling as widgets. When we sell a widget we can then use the profits to buy more or better widgets. We must remember we can buy these widgets daily anywhere we go so there is no need to hold on and store them. Just keeping snowballing them with sales.

I agree and disagree. There is a truth to being more objective about what the business is really about. However, if there is no passion for what we are doing, then what is the point?

Some really nice sales Mel, well.done.. I don't sell lots of books but would probably do more if I had space. Had a great book flip last week with some Penguin Forces Book Club books, a stack of 8 that I picked up for 80p. I couldn't find much on them but I thought they looked interesting. A great hunch, put them on auction starting £10 and within an hour was messaged by a collector of these books offering me £750. I bit his hand off and he paid straight up, said he'd been looking for years. He could have waited 7 days and probably got them much cheaper but he wanted them so much he went fir it. Maybe they're worth £1000s but I couldn't find any evidence to say so and the 750 was much needed to help pay the vet's bill! 🙄. Keep up the good work. 😊

I enjoy your videos, young lady. Sixty years ago, I owned a used book business. AB Bookman Weekly, a digest-sized publication, was my only outlet to the world. AB was first published in 1948, and its final issue was in 1999. In those days, AB was cutting-edge 'stuff.' I'm just mesmerized by how the world of second-hand books has changed. Best of luck to you, your business, and your website. >)

Hi Mel, you are absolutely right - it takes the same time to list a $10 item as an $100 item. I started eBay when freight was $5.50 for a small satchel and $10.50 for a large one. As freight increased it made sense to bundle similar items together. It was your videos that showed the way.

Im loving the new Mel! Out with the old, in with the new! I see a lot of negative comments from other sellers in regards to taking lower offers because then "it's just a race to the bottom," but I am of the same mindset as you. I am much happier to take the offer and get the money in my pocket even if it's a few dollars less. I often wonder how long it might sit at full price for someome else while I take an offer and sell another two items in the same time...

When I first started selling I got attached to my perceived value which often was unrealistic so those things sat in inventory forever. Lately I have been clearing out old inventory and if someone makes me an offer that is even half reasonable, I am accepting. Those things are not making me money sitting in inventory.

Hapoy for you, my approach towards offers is if its a slow seller accept anything but if i know its gonna sell quick i would hold those or counter offer. I know you got them for free and made a killing on them but a fiew more dollars profit is always good. If you have an issue with shelf space thats another thing but once that is sorted i would go back to getting the max amount possible on the really good books that have instant watchers

Judging by your shelves Mel, you've been very busy & it looks great! The FF books are always in demand, I haven't seen anyone mention in the comments, the books are played with dice & the adventure sheets are either at the front or back of the book where people would use pencil to keep track of their stats etc which is why it can be hard to find good condition ones as people kept swapping pages & writing inside. Have a great Xmas!

Best to talk to your local post office about it and discuss with them what you sell and how to best post it. I just do what works best for my business which is using MyPost business with Australia Post. I buy padded mailers in bulk lots of 1000 at a time to get the best savings and I’m on the highest band level due to the quantity I post. I work on averages in my business (I track it monthly to see if it changes) and my average item to post is currently $9.38.

Shipping shouldn’t be holding you back. It’s a cost we all must pay. To get more profits find better quality items that sell for higher amounts and increase your sell thru rates. It’s hard to make high profits on low priced selling items. You need to sell volume if you have that business model.

@@backfromburnout I used to get a high from sourcing but listing? Ugh. I made myself list EVERYTHING I had just bought before I was allowed to go shopping again. If I wanted the high I had to do the work. That actually worked for me. Like telling your kids they had to eat their veggies if they wanted ice cream for dessert lol

If you haven’t already I’d reccomend a christmas blowout sale. Everything with the word christmas or festive or holiday put on a 20-30% discount and free up your shelfs. Cookbooks, craft and romance should fly out ❤

Great work Mel!! Those Steve Jackson fighting fantasy books are always good to look out for, usually it’s with Ian Livingstone as well so keep an eye out for his name too. 😊👍🏻

Great tips. I really need to spend some time studying this genre as it’s always easy to find for me but I’m not the best at picking by eye at it yet. Something to do after the date house is all finished!

I am an ebay seller in Canada with 18 years of bookstore experience. 90% of books here comp at $5 free shipping due to giant US stores selling them in poor to very good condition but not telling you which. They can only be making literally less than a dollar on these. I still sell books but I use my experience to find good ones and only comp a small amount.

They work off a Penny method. They rely on volume sales so even with small profits it’s all adds up to a lot of money with the size of their operations. It does make it hard for small sellers to compete. We do have a strong book market in Australia due to the lack of platform options.

Thanks Miss Mel. I didn't know that. They can keep their Penny method and I will stick to my method. I just sold a rare copy of The Exorcist and a Stephen King PB for over $200 total and only paid $6.@@backfromburnout
