It’s especially annoying on a custom playlist that has been set up manually. I want the playlist to last throughout the day, but if I leave KZbin open in the background and go back it completely refreshes, and KZbin does it the most by far of any app on my phone.

My 2017 iPad has been uploading so much data constantly that it’s exceeding the capacity of the connection to my isp. My speed tests drop to usless. When I turn off background app refresh, the device starts functioning normally with the speeds provided by the isp.

Good info. As a new subscriber I’m do a bit of catch-up, so you may have covered a couple of suggestions I have. Topics, iPhones make great hand me downs, could you make video on setting it up to give to a younger person, I.e. to make it age appropriate, and tamper proof. Any tips appreciated. Topics, what can you do with a old but functional iPhone 6 for example. Topics, I seem to remember a function that only allows call from numbers listed in the favourites but memory fails me. Thanks, great site.

Turn off background refresh, you'll notice a HUGE bump in battery life. Location services should be turned off for all apps you don't really use or need to use location services.

You showed the apps running in the background with a flip up from the bottom. I believe this view is called the App Switcher. What happens to apps that you shutdown from the App Switcher? Will they still refresh if I have the “background app refresh” on, or will they only refresh if I can see them in the App Switcher list?

I don’t really see the difference between when it off and when it’s on,, just turn on for the apps you use most and that’s save battery health too and doesn’t drain your battery any faster than it was before

I only use Gmail, KZbin, google maps and turned everything to OFF. No difference and the battery lasts twice as long.

No, its only for when apps are suspended in background. I just turn it off altogether. Its *almost a useless feature to me.

The bar is so low for today’s human. Watched this and 2 other videos and I’m not really any more informed than when I read the vague apple discription. Would it have hurt to give some more specifics about the pros and cons of keeping it on vs off beyond just battery life. Such using a popular app as example and saying this is specifically what would happen or not happen if this app is not updating constantly. Just saying that it will not update in the background can be quite a bit vague for those whose entire existence is not their phone

Can already tell by reading this you are probably of an older generation, he perfectly explained it, if you leave it on your app will automatically refresh apps in the background whenever you have connection, if you turn it off your app won’t refresh until you open it again, if you would like to save your battery life/data and potentially have your phone be usable for longer, turn off background refresh to save on battery life 🤙 all it really does is keep refreshing so when you open the app it is all still loaded, this is honestly pretty useless so I always turn off refresh and prioritize battery

You dont tell us where to go to change settings so that background refresh is on only in wifi and where to turn it off on specific apps. Meanwhile you take up our precious time telling us 6 times that having refresh turned on does not cancel notifications. You get points for stating the all-too-common fact that Apple’s “explanations” are nonsensical.
