So, now I know what you did for a living. Very cool and very involved profession. On top of that you are an electronic tech, model builder, scenery designer, and multi diverse "toy" collector, otherwise known as a multi-media expert. I wonder if my old copy of Adobe Soundbooth can do this stuff (I have CS3 Master Collection) which really dates my education. I'm more print graphics oriented. This is a very interesting video. Although I understand the process, I was left a bit confused, due to the involved process. It makes me appreciate professionals, like you, who create all the neet soundtracks, which we all just take for granted. ;-)

That little player might be what I need to add sound to my HO/ American Flyer railroad, including engine sounds, since none of my trains have built in sound. Fascinating video, as all yours are! Now I know why the audio in your videos is so good too, a professional sound man! (That must be why I spied a pair of Klipshorns? and a LaScala in one of your older videos?) My grandfather was an engineer on the Chicago Northwestern, and I install audio systems commercially so I have a love for both high quality audio (including Klipsch) and collecting and running model trains!

When I heard the “eerie swamp” track I immediately thought of the opening bayou scene of Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean that I was on just the other day. It’s the part where you leave the dock and go around the Blue Bayou restaurant as you make your way to the first drop. Amazing how a certain sound can just trigger your memories. And amazing that after 54 years that is still the quintessential Disney ride!

I like to add it too with train trip sensor either optical or magnetic detector on the tracks. Then get sounds like trains crossing a wood trestle bridge, etc.. Thanks for the information and video on how to make sounds and the electronic circuit. The layout is looking and sounding fantastic. Be safe and look forward to Tuesday.👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

I LOVE IT! GREAT TUTORIAL ON DIGITAL AUDIO EDITING. I will be reviewing it numerous times till I get it straight. I have a few sound cards that I have paid others load and install for me. Now I can do some of the job. No offense but I don't have nor like GPI "buttons". So when I have successfully learned your technique, I will start to integrate track IRs, room motion detectors, & Arduino triggers. Then when visitors or rolling stock pass the detectors the sound cards will fire. That part of animation I'm good at. I also love what your doing with the speakers. NOT in our train room but in our Bar we have a 1947 Seeburg Juke Box, my GrandFather "aquired" from a former neighborhood Juke Joint. So I may follow your lead next week for that room. But back to the trains. IF I can pull off the digital sound editing to card. Then the GPI switching. I WILL be looking for a way to disguise the mini-speakers as buildings or scenic details on the layout. "HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT." And even if I can't get the techtronics right my 7, 8, 11, & 17 year old grandkids came do all that kind of stuff without you. No offense meant. I'll keep watching, ~Jim

+ToyMan *Did ye factor in the autogongs for the grade crossings?* The Magnetic Flagman® (Magnetic Signal Company, unfortunately, is five decades defunct) uses a ringer on the signal-lamp armature that strikes the gong opposite the lamp arm at each end of stroke. Union Switch and Signal and competitors used a separate autogong for their autoflags; that solution demised to the electromechanical wigwags that replaced the autoflags under code in the 1950's. The Song cited was actually from two Italian pop composers, and Gus Levine at Capitol Records acted as producer and conductor: *VOLARE / DEAN MARTIN* (Capitol/Universal single EAP1-1027) (Migliacci Francesco/Modugno Domenico) Curci Edizioni S.r.l., SIAE/Universal Music - Robbins, ASCAP

this soundboard may be the answer I've been looking for to add an Arduino based railroad crossing to the layout. The bell part was proving to be a problem as it was bogging down the Arduino, keeping it from flashing the lights correctly.

Hey, firstly, fantastic video and very interesting for someone who doesn't have their own model railroad! I'm an audio person helping a friend to bring some life to their railroad and I was wondering; Are you able to trigger multiple sounds simultaneously using the Adafruit soundboard? For example, I was thinking of having an ambient loop that plays constant as well as sounds for the Junction box levers being triggered when the trains approach the junction. Would this work?

Why not place speakers under the features you want the sounds to come from and run those sound effects separately? That will give a surround sound, 3-dimensional effect depending on where you are at the layout, and you won't have to do all that mixing.
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 3 жыл бұрын
Yup. That’s the plan on other things. This is background sound. And with the speakers about 8 feet apart you really can’t tell where the sound is coming from! But some sounds will be for areas or structures. The coaling tower will have a track. (I recorded it in about 1986). The turntable will have a track. The creek in the big canyon and so on.

Both the banker and the constabulary are wearing in the traditional accoutrements for their profession. I have been researching hats. As I’m putting hats on many of the figures and I want to make sure that everyone is wearing the proper hat for their job. I used to hold to a theory that said that John F Kennedy was assassinated by haberdashers who were offended by the fact that he refused to wear a hat. They loved Johnson because he wore a Stetson. But that’s just one of those conspiracy theories that I hold to.
