Backing Tracks, Cheating?

There’s been lots of discussion around the topic of backing tracks recently. As a touring drummer I use them quite often. In this video I’ll dispel some of the myths, as well as share my own experiences with their use on stage.

I wonder why that topic is on your mind, because it's irrelevant for me at the end. People are free to say and think what they want, none of it is going to stop. It's like that never ending topic of matched grip versus traditional grip, or playing the pedal heels down or heels up, and so on. As a child, we are growing up in a certain reality of technologies and music. The fact is, our reference about what is good or bad, what is acceptable or not, is only link to our generation. The best example would be those guys complaining about the new technologies of CD-ROM instead of Vinyl, less warm and so on. Who is still listening to Vinyl, if not those old guys from the past? The most important part for me as a drummer is to hear my instrument, and not some sample from trigger or something like that. In fact, if you would listen to any of my video, you will hear the sound coming from the instrument like someone playing the piano or the trompet. But the hot topic of ''cheating'' live on stage because the band is using some prerecorded track, is not a hot topic at all to begin with... A singer, alone with his guitare, playing live on a stage with backing tracks, that's the real thing hurting drummer. Just like paying for a DJ instead of hiring a band.
