BACKLASH BUYING LUXURY!!?? Not my usual video but I wanted to talk about this head on. This is not about how to afford designer bags or the best designer bags to buy. It’s about the luxury market and why do women in general try to shame other women who purchase luxury items. As many of you know, I shop high and I shop low so I thought this was a brilliant topic to dissect especially as a black woman. Remember, when wanting to learn how to find your personal style, it does not boil down to labels. It is about the mix and how you put together an outfit, whether it has a designer name or not. It’s about YOUR eye and learning to to find your style whether your budget is high or low.

i was absolutely a hater in the beginning, with the mindset of "dont spend your hard earned money making the white man rich by buying status items to show off" until I was in a position to buy something for myself. Then my mindset changed to :why cant I have what I want regardless of who creates it". it is the stigma that black woman don;t deserve nice things. We deserve more than anyone else and should get it and celebrate each other and help each other to get what they want and where they want to go. Let's be pioneers and set up future generations for greatness in all areas.

I believe black women deserve luxury, I just don't like when it to make a statement you made it in the world. Why is a Chanel bag more valuable than a bag created by a black designer. We support these designers but how do these luxury brands support us. I agree with setting up future generations for greatness with owning land, seating in the boardroom, finding a cure for cancer, or just high confidence to do what you want. Is our greatness defined by purchasing a bag? However, at the end of the day, If you like I love it! We all have the freedom to do what we want! :)

There’s some nuances that aren’t being mentioned here that have nothing to do with being black. There is a growing backlash in general about influencers and overconsumption, how fast fashion is affecting the environment and the quality of life of those who are helping to produce the gorgeous but expensive items ,the workers are suffering tremendously for it; The psychological impact of those who are trying to keep up with the jones, etc, the wakeup from the pandemic about consumer debt and overconsumption. I do not mean to undermine the premise of the video bc I have had a coworker comment on my handbags but said person spent lavish amounts of money on becoming ms new booty. That being said, i personally am on a new path and have joined the slow fashion community but I would never shame someone.

Bingo. I think there are some good points made on black women having to prove or justify luxury purchases, but the points you made are the major call outs for me. Especially it being a pandemic and unemployment is at an all time high, there is major sensitivity with luxury consumption. Wish they touched upon that.

I'm also glad that they're having this discussion as this type of stuff has been going on forever. I'm in my mid-60s and dealt with this stuff as early as in middle school and onward. I would get such from some kids and of different races. They would try to project their upbringing onto me and try to make me feel bad for having nice things that their parents couldn't afford them. But, I didn't go for it and never apologized for having what I had. I was fortunate to have parents with high educations and professions that could afford my siblings and me nice things, nice vacations, solid education, etc. And I was grateful for it. And there were kids that I knew who had more than we had and I was happy for them. I don't do jealously. I just...do me. I went to public school with different races and students from a variety of family economic backgrounds, from poor to filthy rich and everything in between and I was a friend within all of the groups. Of course as a Black person, there were folks who thought that Black folks weren't supposed to have certain things and even some Black folks would think it which is sad. And this would come from both kids and adults and later employers. But, I came from a family who refused to let other people project us into their personal life situation and then try to decide what was best for us. My dads were and my 90-something mom still has always been onward and upward. And we always grew up around people of different economic backgrounds and races as my parents had/have friends to this day from different groups. It's really unfortunate that such silliness is still going on and we're now in 2021. What a waste of energy. And as for folks trying to tell other folks what they should or should not spend their hard-earned money on, well, it would be a lot better if folks just focused all of that energy on their own finances and households. I remember when being bullied by a group of kids in middle school who were upset that I had some things that they didn't have. I looked at them and asked if they would like to have the same things that I had. They answered, "yes". I then asked if it was OK if they had them and again they answered, "Yes". I then asked then why was it not OK for me to have the same things that they would like to have. I then got blank faces, but was never bullied again. I'm really proud of the young, Black women who have made it on KZbin and I hope that they continue to move forward and not backwards and never look back. There are times when one just needs to block out the noise as there will always be someone who is there to criticize what one has accomplished or is trying to accomplish and criticize about everything else. Greetings from Los Angeles.

That's because most people focus on the brand and it's level of accessibility. More people feel as if they can walk into Zara, H&M, and other fast fashion stores and buy those items than those who feel like they can walk into Chanel. It really is about jealousy, envy, and self-worth. It's all about "why does this person have access to that, when I don't?". Personally, I get a great deal of enjoyment (and high-end clothes) by sewing them myself using Vogue designer patterns. These are the exact patterns that the designers use in their exquisite collections. And the ones that aren't licensed by the designers are copied from other designers, lol. This is so good. A few years ago I moved into a luxury building in NYC. I’m like one of maybe less than 10 black people living here. And for the first two years, I felt a need to hide where I lived from others because they would question how I was able to live where I live (when I know if I were white or Asian, this would never be the case). I would even refuse to use my building amenities (even though I pay my rent here!) because as a black woman, I felt like it wasn’t right for me. So crazy. Thankfully over the last year or two, I’ve exposed myself to black people who enjoy luxury and listening conversations like this, I no longer feel ashamed of living in luxury.

I’m learning that luxury means different things for different people. It’s not always displayed via clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. It may also be shown by the ability and choice to hire outside help (i.e. a nanny, housekeeper, etc). Also, let’s not even talk about how it’s acceptable for men to hire help for “traditionally manly things” like lawn care and car maintenance but the moment a woman says she has a nanny or a housekeeper everybody wants to throw stones.

Man even time is a luxury! honestly those things outlined on how men hired outside help really resonated with me because men don’t have to prove why they do thing they like; they just do it. I hope I will continue to stand strong in my enjoyment of luxury as a black women because we deserve. It’s not always about struggle to prove our “worth”.

I’m the US yes, that might be a luxury but for others living fir example in Africa, having a nanny/housekeeper are pretty common so it’s all about context. On the other hand, even a regular american making 70K a year could afford a housekeeper once a week for their apartment so Luxury is a matter of organizing. The truth is we spend a lot of money on nonsense and not on things that could really bring that self-care/luxury in our life.

I used to be all over luxury until I realized that I was tying my worthiness to the names on those luxury items. A lot of luxury whether too many items or the same item at thousands of dollars are just things. The fact is leather is abundant; it does not cost that amount to make those luxury items and its a get over. As a person who owns luxury bags, I feel a disconnect between myself and the items. Do I really love, desire, enjoy them, or am I in love with what I've been told the names should mean to me? Yes, Black women are flourishing in many ways. I just don't want Black women believing that spending thousands of dollars on luxury is "normal." In my opinion, it is not normal. Most are robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I am ambivalent. I adore quality but luxury is not synonymous with quality. We also live in a world where there is an enormous gap in wealth. I personally don’t like highly branded and labeled luxury brands because they can scream elitism. If you are comfortable with the reason for your choices, so be it. Poverty is not a state of mind…it is a sad reality for most no matter how hard they work . Hard work does not always result in financial success. Luxury and money have never been aspirational for me personally, but I understand that for most in North America it equates with having made it. The struggle with these issues is real and I think we need to acknowledge it. Do luxury if you want , but don’t ignore the impact of your choices. No choice we make in life is without an impact. We need to live consciously. We can still enjoy things without ignoring the impact of our choices.

I hesitate to comment as I rarely engage with strangers on the internet but seeing as this 'discussion' continues to proliferate with little (self-) critical input or feedback, I'd like to offer one such perspective. Please bear in mind (not that it matters) that I'm a highly credentialed and highly upwardly mobile young Black woman who consumes 'luxury' goods. For self-proclaimed proponents of the "Black women deserve luxury" ~movement~, I'd like to ask a few questions. First, what is the political project being advanced and for whose benefit? That is, what is underneath this persistent need to claim increased ability to consume as a victory for Black women/the project of Black liberation? Relatedly, what if your consumption habits don't have to be ~radical~ and are simply what they are with all the complexities attendant to life under racial capitalism? Is convincing people that they don't have to struggle with the ethics of their consumption because "Black women deserve (as much as white women)" accomplishing anything other than papering over real tensions that need to be wrestled with? To what degree is the continued rehashing of a conversation that has, in my humble opinion, far outlived its usefulness (if it ever was useful) anything more than a manifestation of the status anxieties of (recently) upwardly mobile/classed Black people? Lastly, who is the audience for this conversation and who do you all consider your community? Relatedly, what are your expectations around how said audience/community engages with your content and do you feel accountable to that community in any particular way--specifically, given a business model centered on engagement, is the expectation that such engagement never be critical? I ask these questions because I'm increasingly concerned about the underlying politics and ideologies that are undergirding these recurring conversations and the broader impact they might be having. Specifically, I'm quite disturbed by the continued strain of "it be your own people" vis a vis the apparent critical responses from other Black women. I'd like to understand why there is an expectation of/entitlement to external validation for your choices. You work in an industry that is literally about making and sharing consumption choices and I think it should come as no surprise that considering the median wealth for a Black family in the US is roughly $24,000 (www.federalreserve.gov/econres/notes/feds-notes/disparities-in-wealth-by-race-and-ethnicity-in-the-2019-survey-of-consumer-finances-20200928.htm) and that the planet is literally on fire (due in no small part to the fashion industry), people are gonna have questions/concerns around redistribution and the harms you might be perpetuating that might feel uncomfortable. I think it's worth sitting with discomfort rather than shying away from it under the guise of neo-liberal representational politics (i.e. I as a Black woman should get to move through the world in ways that might be just as harmful or destructive as white people because I face historical and contemporary oppression). I am also really alarmed by the "poverty is a mindset" comment--respectfully, poverty is not a 'mindset', poverty is a policy choice and a structural condition necessitated by capitalism which requires a pliant and disciplined class of people willing to work for crumbs to survive. This rhetoric strikes me as rooted in bootstrap thinking that is pervasive among certain classed Black people and serves to perpetuate the myth that if Black women (/people) work hard enough or put in enough effort, they too can find individual success under capitalism. In any case, this is not to take away from your individual accomplishments which I sincerely believe are worth celebrating; I guess I'm mostly writing this as a way to hold myself accountable--as I said at the start, I enjoy and consume luxury goods but I fear upward mobility has a way of detaching people from reality and I want to hope I maintain some sense of critical self-awareness. There's more I'd like to say but this is way too long already lol

This is the best response and should be shared everywhere. You articulated this perfectly! Poverty is NOT a mindset and to be honest I believe this discussion of "Black women *deserve* luxury" is outdated and irrelevant. No one says we don't why belabour on a topic no one (but a few critics) are speaking on? There are many discussions we should be having like over-consumption, climate change, coming out of a pandemic etc. If you feel you have to shout that you deserve luxury, you need to check yourself internally on why what people say matters so much to you. We shouldn't destroy the planet or engage in unsustainable practices just because others are doing so - I'm not saying we cannot enjoy the finer things in life, it's not a burden to be mindful of others and our earth.

I think the discussion is warranted to a certain extent, but I will also say that I find myself flinching at the topic because this isn’t unique to black women. I understand that Candice initiated the discussion a few months ago with her IG post, but as a black woman, I really don’t want us to get bogged down or continue to perpetuate the idea that this is something only black women do. In retelling her story, Candice said that she’d scrolled by multiple white women who were showing their luxury items, but she didn’t have as visceral a reaction as when she saw a black woman showing her luxury items. I’d put money on it that those white women influencers have fellow white women followers who probably reacted similarly-“Ugh, she’s showing off again” (or whatever)-when they saw said luxury items from white women. I don’t know. I just don’t want us to miss the forest for the tress on this topic by being hyper focused on black women.

This is very true, women do it black or white just ask white influencers. However black women seem to be more boisterous about criticising others. This this is a defensive behaviour to protect themselves because if you can have the achievement (luxury item in this case) the next thought is why can’t I, which then means they have to take responsibility for themselves and change if they are to accomplish this, but of cause to criticise is easier than self analysis and change.

I think we're beating a dead horse here. Specifically what comments are being made that is "offensive" to black women who purchase luxury? Just Live! Why do y'all care! Also this is what comes along when you're on the internet and unboxing and flossing a $20K bag for 40 straight minutes. This isn't just about luxury items. This is also about anything you do in life that shows success. Why apologize - just Live.

I agree! I would like to know who stated that Black women don't deserve luxury because maybe I've missed seeing those comments. Luxury influencers in general receive hate for purchasing luxury -- with the ever so popular "there are starving children in Africa" comments, so I'm confused about when this criticism became reserved for Black women.

You’re all amazing role models to all women of any color in my opinion, and pioneers in what you do. I’m 52 and I have never owned a Chanel or Hermès among other things but if I wanted it bad enough I’d have it for sure. Some women (or people in general) stay stuck in a negative mindset of lack that just perpetuates..and project jealousy, envy, hate onto others only because deep down they want what you have. Took me 50 years to figure that out lol. Anyway do you, you’re fabulous! 😘

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼This is a very important conversation...this extreme judgement has occurred far too often among the Latin community as well...there is an sometimes insidious glee that comes from tearing other women down or assuming that they got what they have by sleeping around and tying their “success” to anything other than hard work and a passion for improving themselves.💔

I am not black so I listened to this with an open mind. To see things from another perspective is eye opening. Sisters should not tear each other down because of their financial status and the ability to buy luxury items. The only thing that should limit anyone from buying what they can afford and want is how much money they make. We live in a wonderful country where we are not limited to where we came from. We can do anything we want to to better ourselves. Everyone envies the rich girls at one time or other but it shouldn't take any of our energy and steal our joy. It is not worth it. We are at one of the best times for women of all backgrounds. We can do anything we want to and accomplish our goals. We can reach for the sky. Everyone has to work hard, it is not selective to only black women but to white women as well. We can have it all if we want. Go for the best! I love my beautiful Britchick Karen. She has personality the size of all outdoors, she is unique, an artist, and an influencer to all women and she has a beauty that draws all to her. That's why I love her.

We’re living during sensitive times. People have lost their lives and livelihoods during the pandemic. Due to the current climate, Sensitive individuals ought not watch “ luxury “ creators. It’s a weird world now where we show people what we bought and what we have for entertainment. I recently became a creator here on KZbin and it is kinda weird lol. Creators are not responsible to change their content. I don’t think this is a black issue though. I think too much time spent watching what others are afforded (especially when u are unable to afford the same things )can negatively impact one’s view of themselves. I enjoy watching how others live, and I am inspired at times by what I see. At the end of the day material goods are just that. Some are into the beauty of these goods ( I love special items), and some don’t care as much- they may not regard them as special. For some it just seems like excess and flossing what you’ve got. If it offends you, tune out

I totally agree with you. It is a weird concept that we find entertainment value in watching these "hauls" of what others purchased! What bothers me the most is when a luxury brand is promoting a new "it" bag, they gift it to the influencers and everyone is unboxing the same thing. This is so repetitive and boring and that is when I tune out. What I like about Karen's channel is that she mixes the high end with vintage finds and I appreciate how she puts things together. I hate to see someone wearing all Gucci or whatever, it isn't creative to me. I have stopped following many influencers when I feel triggered by all the excess. We have that power, just don't watch if it bothers you. I thought your comment was so insightful!

I think this is a great discussion. I am sure not only black influencers receive backlash on luxury brand hauls/blogs, but the outrage they get certainly goes up a notch. You only have to see the recent 'outrage' stylist Melissa Holdbrook-Akposoe's recent collab with Mercedes to see that in action. It's sad because it leads so many women, particularly women of colour, suffering from Imposter Syndrome, feeling they are not deserving of their success and by osmosis, having a nice lifestyle or acquiring luxury items.

However I will say that the luxury brands that you have highlighted in past videos are brands that have a history of discrimination against black women. For example Hermès. I feel that everyone should purchase what makes them feel good but I wish that there was also a discussion on the history of these brands and why we should look into purchasing from luxury brands that do not have a racist history. I have worked in fashion for over 20 years and I can say with confidence that the discrimination continues even with this new illusion of change. These brands do not have people of color ever in design..and if they do it is lower positions for the appearance of inclusion. Just a thought for next discussion.

Interestingly, the whole concept of “influencer” nowadays is one who “influences” people’s buying habits. Whatever is linked provides a commission to the influencer who posts it. Fair enough. I get it, it’s a job. Honestly, for the most part I just don’t watch ANYONE’s luxury videos because it’s just not that interesting to me. I can look at the websites and see the items. I think what gets lost in the discussion is the fact that we, as viewers, create influencers. If we don’t like something, don’t watch. If we don’t like where that person is going, unsubscribe and move on. Conversely, popular influencers make a LOT of money and have access to a lot of products most of us just can’t afford on a regular basis. Again, fair enough…..but I truly believe, you have to take the cons with the pros. Critical comments that are easily deleted? Who cares? It’s not taking money out of your pocket and it’s a small fraction of your overall engagement. The same public forum that provides you with the means for luxury items, also provides your audience an opportunity to criticize if they want.

Agree! I think that if you are going to make your career as an influencer and put yourself out there in public, you should expect that everyone isn't going to love it, or might have an opinion that differs. I find that if the influencer doesn't like the comment that doesn't agree with them, they get insulted. Isn't that though the real world. I had a retail store for years and not everyone that walks in the shop loves what you carry. Working with the public is not easy, there are wonderful people and then there are those that aren't so kind. It is the product of working with the public. On youtube I think they are called haters. I call them people with different opinions. Like you said, if it isn't interesting, don't watch, unsubscribe.

I know sometimes i need a break from “luxury”. Majority of us can’t afford a lot of those luxury items. Sometimes i watch videos and they a are buying a new channel bag once a month. We all have to admit the average working woman can’t afford that.

I think when black women see other black women in a luxury item, whether is be shoes or a bag, it becomes personal for them because they assume that that black woman shares the same lifestyle experience and "if I can't afford it. How can she afford it?" I think sometimes that's where the though process and the judgement stems from. We are still not used to seeing black people have wealth and if they do have some wealth, it is should be hidden and not flaunted. For me, it is the opposite. I find it inspiring! It makes me see that I too can achieve being able to afford luxury items one day.

That is true. I also have to remind myself that luxury fashion is not the same as buying expensive Nikes (not dissing those who buy expensive Nikes...but I think there is a perception issue re: cost of things vs. things that are well made, or made with care, are high-design and cost more). My mother lived a "less than" life because I believe she felt it was not her place to step up her lot in life. Because of her issue with fashion and beauty, I wanted it so much and this channel's talk today is so necessary for me to hear.

Absolutely EXCELLENT conversation! Whether you're an Influencer, A Business Woman or a House Wife & you have the means, you DESERVE to treat yourself & get what you want. Yes, it's the MINDSET. Once you change your mindset & know that you are WORTHY of that luxury item-- that you DESERVE a dream vacation, that car, that massage or whatever you deem is your type of 'luxury'--you will live in your truth & your own freedom. I follow most of you on Instagram & yes, you each INSPIRE me. Ladies continue to Live Your Truth Freely & continue to Inspire others!!! LOVE THIS!! REPRESENTATION MATTERS!

Karen I am glad that you are having this discussion. It’s much needed. Every since I started work a long time ago and made my own money and bought what I wanted I have been picked apart, scorned and hated by other women. Mind you I am not buying the luxury items you are referring to I am talking about just buying what my money can afford me and what I want. It’s just things and anyone can have them that my thoughts. ❤️

People tend to project their crap onto people living their life. And we need to start to ignore them. I still don’t share much at work about the great things happening to me in my personal life because divulging it may hinder my career, or to work on high profile projects. I can afford luxury and I've no problem with black women having and deserving luxury BUT I think the issue is that there are so few of us who can afford these items despite, all grafting we are doing. We have always influenced style but not at such unattainable costs. Due to our position in society, for many of us the amounts spent on 1 item are what we have to spend on food, clothes, rent. Black influencers aren't responsible for this but don't seem to acknowledge their 'privelege' - it sometimes seems like they are tone deaf. I love my luxury but I also I'm in a minority

Just some half-baked thoughts while listening to this: This reminds me of discussions about people who use government help, food stamps, etc. They will be criticized for wanting to use that resource for ‘luxuries’ like smart phones. I think people just think certain groups of people are not deserving of luxuries or they just can’t imagine that certain people can be in a position of affording those luxuries. I think it’s something that also intersects with the rise of minimalism and environmentalism which have been made trendy by white people. Suddenly when there’s some upwards mobility, when women, especially women of color, have income, when we’re the ones beginning to establish inter generational wealth, luxury and maximalism is seen as a bad thing. It’s seen as tacky or wasteful not even considering how those of us in low income households have BEEN doing sustainability and minimalism not by CHOICE but NECESSITY.

I struggle with influencers showing their very expensive purchases (whether used or not) as people all over the world have suffered from major economic setbacks as a result of COVID. Let’s be honest it is a real reason why this is an issue in the black community. Most black women are single in America because of delusional expectations and of what they feel like they deserve. Now, since you have made this a business for you that’s one issue but if this is a lifestyle of the average working woman it is ridiculous. What do we owe our communities? What are our expectations for our daughters? Certainly, not to have a wall of designer bags and a closet of vintage cloths and 50 pair of boots and no husbands. Black women are over educating themselves in every area but financial literacy. If you have saved and are out of debt and you want to buy yourself something nice go for it. But, if you are in student loan debt, credit card debt, or just single trying to pay bills. I am sure we could come up with something that makes more since than luxury retail items regardless of what it is. The fact that you took the time to make this video speaks volumes. Influencers can be just as toxic to the black community or communities in general as any other unrealistic trend in our society. Buy what you want - just take the responsibility for issue and don’t make excuses that we are as black women attacking one another . If they can make you feel bad or question yourself then you need to self evaluate. Focusing on yourself is important and the way you look is important- but a luxury item is just not. But, to each their on. Women look at how your mothers and grandmothers prepared and was always ready for a rainy day. When, the pandemic hit I never heard that anyone ate or use their Chanel bag to pay the rent.

Ok. But at a glance how do you assume that a woman is financially irresponsible? There are many women who save their money and buy themselves really nice things. And good for them. My purchases should not be anyone's problem. I shouldn't have to justify to anyone what's in my wallet. If I work hard and want to buy something as a grown woman, why is it anyone's concern? Let's be honest, it's more than jealousy. It's an envious, vindictive attitude. You don't deserve it, it's too good for you, how could you possibly afford that. And it's not just for luxury items. If you dress "nice" you are subject to negative criticism. If you find yourself being envious of another person look within. That person is living their life, whatever life that is. And as these two years have shown life is too short. Wear your nice stuff, buy your nice stuff! Enjoy this one life we are given. It is over way too soon

I totally agree you should buy what you if you can afford it. There are no assumptions about your financial responsibility. The issue is the impact on the culture that is distracting and misleading. Young women, need disclaimers that this lifestyle is a process and not a priority that’s all I am saying. When you have a platform it’s an opportunity for solutions other than making it about race and women. It is sad that we are having discussions on luxury items when so many other important issues in the black community pertains to us as black women that are broken. Thanks for your response!

I personally am sick of the over consumption for all influencers. Can we get back to the old influencers when they were creative and made something out of nothing (meaning their creativity soared). I have a huge budget and can buy just about anything I want but at some point I have to say enough is enough. We all are guilty. Actually I’m more sick of the white influencers than the Black women. I’m proud of us but we are falling into the same trap, let’s be better! Side note, some peoples attitudes cause backlash.

I agreed with everything but then I heard "Poverty is a state of mind". Well, no. Many people don't have a choice. American dominant culture understands poverty as a defect of character, not a result of a structurally unjust economic system. People who are poor are not poor because they lack money. They are poor because, in America’s dominant culture, there is something wrong with them emotionally, morally, subculturally, or behaviorally. People in poverty in the United States are largely viewed as individually responsible for their own economic circumstances, and they must be punished in this view. This appallingly cruel perspective has a long history in the United States despite its patent falsity, going far beyond the “blaming the victim” nonsense furthered by allegedly liberal social scientists and providers of social services (including social workers, psychotherapists, counselors, and other purveyors of the “helping” professions).

"poverty is a mindset" - I do somewhat understand underlying point in this, but anyway it sounds kinda wrong to say it while wearing Miu Miu top. also, talking about how you think you shouldn't say sorry for owning a bag that costs 5.000$+, again, sounds wrong. I do think this conversation was okay but regardless, as someone who studied fashion, worked in fashion, there are problems bigger then this that need to be addressed on visible platforms. world is changing tremendously right now and we need to use our voices and visability in well thought out ways. I don't own a Miu Miu top or Chanel/Hermes bag, but I feel sadness deep down in my bones, seeing where this ship called humanity is going

Wow, this conversation was very insightful!! I work with attorneys and what I found interesting was that the female attorneys would ask me where did I purchase my clothes or handbags and when I would tell them, well this shop closed a while ago, Loehmann's they would say things like "oh, isn't that store expensive?" Well, my mother used buy my coats and jackets from there when I was in high school so, if she had to save two weeks of pay, she knew that what she purchased from there was quality.
