Perfect timing for these days and times. I left corporate life over a decade ago. Has it been easy, no, but it has been much more satisfying and exciting and rewarding than working for others who either didn't appreciate my talents or didn't pay for the value I brought to the table. Nothing beats setting yourself up for success and working for your betterment, not to just pay bills. Anything can pay a bill, but I wanted my soul, mind and body even to be at my best. Thanks for this Karen, I too was laid off sometime ago and have ALWAYS loved fashion even as a child but allowed others to put in my head its more important to be realistic working a job you hate so you can pay the bills. Well I did that for corporate America for 34 yrs and later laid off. I have started a my own journey its been a few years. Yes it is hard, and just this week thought of quitting and just finding something to bring in money. However you sparked hope in me. Not to quit. I must say I'm in my later years and would only advise your younger audience to don't wait until you get older to pursue your dreams. Not to say at an older age you won't succeed but you'll have more time to enjoy what you ALWAYS wanted to do.

Great honest video, Karen. This is why that saying that is circulating everywhere "do what love and you'll never work a day in your life" is BS, because there is a lot of work involved doing what you love, just like you mentioned. The difference is that at end of the day, week, month, year.. you have that feeling of fulfillment and of being true to yourself, instead of feeling like you're wasting the energy of your life, and of betraying yourself when you're working a job that has no meaning to you.

I'm not in NYC but Mood Fabric has classes. Also, look at Anita by Design, Brittany J Jones, Mimi G, and Daniela Tabois on KZbin

@@samanthamadison7249 Thank you so much for responding. I've taken a class a mood before and made a tote bag, which I still have. I'm looking for a one-on-one instruction. I tried to sew a top the other day and it was a flop😭 but I'm determined to learn. Also I've watched a lot of Mimi G's videos, ill check her out again and the others you mentioned. Thank you 🙏

@@Godzgift777 No problem! Keep on keeping on! Learning to sew is a marathon with a great deal of patience. 😁

@Blessed One. Speaking of Mood as you know Project Runway films there & most of their designers are customers. This may be a long shot but I’ve been a PR fan since season 1 and belong to two Facebook groups; Topic Project Runway & Project Runway Fanatics. I’d say most of the designers join both or either group. Over the years many designers give classes, seek assistances, apprentices, etc. Many use FB & IG to network with fans & further launch their careers. Maybe this might help you? Just a thought.
