Interesting comment on the loose arms of the GSI. I ended up buying a GSI after one of my Pocket Rocket screws stripped. I had tried tightening them at one point, and the one stripped and feel out. No practical at of repairing it, so I had to toss it.

I have the GSI, wind is an issue. I used a press to compress those rivets to make them a little bit more snug. Huge step up in finish. I’m probably going to get a pocket rocket because of the wind deflector.

I am happy with my Snow Peak burner that includes a spark lighter. And for me, if I'm trying to get back 30 seconds while I'm out camping, I'm doing camping wrong. Price-to-performance is the most important to me. Thanks, Aaron!

Good job comparing and contrasting them in a relatively “compact” video. Appreciate the info and honest assessment. 👊🇺🇸✝️

MSR has always seemed slightly pricey, but more quality and more for my money. Thanks Aaron and GT crew!

Nice review as always. GSI is a well known back country gear manufacturer. We have a half dozen Infinity Mugs and a 20 ounce coffee press and are looking to buy more GSI gear for our camp kitchen. Nice to know there are lightweight, compact stove alternatives to MSR but even after watching this review and some others I would still go with the MSR Pocket Rocket 2. Primarily for the built in wind screen and the compactness to nest in my cook system. However, not in the market to buy. My MSR Pocket Rocket 1 and BRS stove are holding up just fine.

It would be interesting to know how much gas each use to boil the same volume of water.

Great review. When I’m camping, hiking 30 seconds difference has no meaning. I’m enjoying the outdoors

Excellent insight. Boil toil time, weight, compactness, features.... can't help to wonder is there any significant difference in fuel consumption over the "life" of a typical fuel canister for the same 2 cup boil???? As as side note, I used to carry a Coleman Peak One" in the 80's... heavy as a brick, but can STILL boil water quick! Fuel is HEAVY!

Yes sir I found the same issues with my gsi stove. I originally purchased the gsi stove for the open pot diameter. But for the same reasons, I returned to the good old pocket rocket. Thx for sharing..

I don't have a stove or burner like that yet, but I was looking at the Odoland Mess Kit on Amazon for $20 that has everything needed to cook with and packs up to something like 5" dia. By 6.5" tall.

You might want to stay away from aluminum. It's cheaper but you'll pay for it with your health in the long run.

Neat review/comparison. I bought the GSI Pinnacle. I also bought the GSI Windscreen, but it seems unstable. Especially if wind gusts show up. After all, what's a windscreen if it can't stand up to a gust of wind.

Apparently, the old saying, "a watched pot never boils", just isn't true. With the GSI it takes exactly 2 minutes and 34 seconds.

Higher BTU’s means more fuel used. Longer time burning means more fuel used. Any idea how those compare? Same amount of fuel used in the end??

What about fuel use? The higher btu should use more fuel

You did not do your homework. Do not rule out the FireMaple (300-T). It is smaller and more lightweight than the two you reviewed. Cost is $30 on their website. I got mine on Amazon Warehouse, a returned product due to the packaging was damaged. Stove was perfectly fine and only $20. Not perfect, but will boil water in under 4 minutes. Nice little stove. Later.

I prefer the Primus Essential Trail over the MSR because it works faster is solid built, more wind resistant, and is way less expensive at $24 on their website or Amazon.

Hallo there. Thanks for this little GSI / MSR test, however missed that you had some numbers for how much gas it was used in both boil tests, think that is the most importen, not the 30 sec. am i wrong??
@davidhawkins847
@davidhawkins847 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. If the unit has a higher btu rating using the same fuel I would assume its burning more fuel than the other. So you may save 30secs on boil time but get less boils from the canister. Since you chose to stay with the MSR, I guess it doesn't really matter though.

You would think he'd know to move the dry pine needles away from the immediate area under and around the flame source.

Wasn't lighting any kind of fire in an uncleared patch of dry pine needles a bit irresponsible? Oh, you're not the only offender. This is a pet peeve of mine.
