This is a 6 day backpacking trip in the upper northwest corner of Glacier National Park starting at Lower Kintla Lake, traversing Boulder Pass to Lake Francis and ending at Bowman Lake. We experience a wide range of weather activity from rain and SNOW during the first half of our trip to hot, humid summer conditions on the second half of the trip. Also, a number of obstacles in our path including downed trees on the trail and snow fields. Will the rain and snow effect our plans/itinerary? Watch to find out…

It appears my ending was cut short somehow. For some reason, I had a lot of technical difficulties editing this video, so out of frustration, I'm going to leave it as is. The entire trip is intact. It was just me babbling at the end with an end card and a little music. Basically what I said is as follows: At the end of our trip, Joey rode his bike 15 miles back to our starting trailhead to get the van. It was a rough road and even driving it 15 miles takes approx an hour. He picked me up 3 hours later. Thank you for doing that for us Joey. Also, thank you for the use of your additional, incredible footage. Thank you to Harmony for the hitch! It was a fantastic trip even with all the "weather" and "mosquitoes"! Thank you for watching and I'll see you on the next adventure!

watching it again. i did this exact hike (same campgrounds) in 1987 (and climbed Boulder Peak). then did it again in 1996. then did an out and back from Bowman to Lake Francis in 2005, with a visiting couple who went on to Granite Park via Goat Haunt. thanks for the memories retired in the Andes. miss Glacier. love exploring new stuff though

The epicness of this video is off the charts. Can't be measured. I was in awe. Fantastic hike Catherine. A funny thing happened. Wifey and myself sat down in front of TV with TV trays to watch the vid and eat our fried catfish filets. Wifey was pouring her tarter sauce in her plate as video started and you showed that amazing rainbow. She forgot her sauce and poured most of the bottle into her plate. We just sat there laughing.

I'm glad you got to experience life on the trail for a week straight. It brought back a lot of treasured memories for me, as I've long distance hiked through Glacier a couple of times. ❤ ✌ 👣 The struggles are real and one is always in some form of discomfort, but the epic rewards are worth it. -Stay adventurous & positive.

I usually take a ultralight tarp if there any chance of rain. That way you can keep a fire going and wait out the rain in relative comfort. I have been backpacking for over 50 years.

+Paul Frank thank you! What we didn’t show on camera is how cold I really got on that second night. I was shivering so bad I was shaking. I got into dry clothes and Joey made me some hot soup. He also boiled water that he put in my nalgene and I slept with that in my sleeping bag. That was an eye opener and a big factor in our decision making to stay put another night.

Another awesome video Catherine, even with the bad weather the mountain scenery was epic!! Don't know if you can get Avon products in America, but please try Avon original Skin so Soft spray. It's a normal skin spray but is excellent at getting rid of mosquitos. Friends used it on an Amazon trip, family have used it in Scotland, where at times mosquitos are a real bummer. We live by the sea here in the UK, and when we're outside till late on summer evenings, we use this, and not one person I know has been troubled by mosquito bites. Anyway! Loving your work, will look out for more vids from you! Thank you for all you do! xx

So beautiful! I love Montana. My mom lives just south of Glacier by about 2 hours so I visit every year, but I’m too afraid I’ll meet a grizzly to go too far from civilization! We were there starting July 8th and had perfect weather for a hike to Hidden Lake. Plenty of goats, big horn sheep AND a grizzly off in the distance below and behind the visitors center. Thanks for sharing the back country for those of us too timid!

Smiling ear to ear watching this video! I love Glacier National Park and if we get back in 2023 I have to make sure we rent something bigger than a Prius! We didn't dare travel the up to Kintla trail head last time because the car had bottomed out on pavement! I am so glad the weather cleared up for you! Hope you didn't wind up donating to much blood, the bugs are bad here too! Looking forward to more of your adventures!

Yes, that Kintla Lake road is horrible. Joey had a heck of a time on the bike ride to pick up the van. The mosquitos LOVED me!! Joey might have only gotten one to two bites. I was covered in them. Awesome views...loved the early flowers. Sorry to see the blow down as it’s always a hassle. ...and that weather always does what it wants, but it makes for tomorrows to look forward to. Yes...the blowdown was a pain, but honestly...I don't want every hike to be too easy. The challenges are what make it an adventure. Everything was as it was supposed to be. That's kind of my take on life in general. It was really special to experience it with Joey as I know how much he loves it there. He gets pleasure from seeing the joy these amazing places bring to others and especially when they are seeing it for the first time. No regrets. Thanks so much for watching!

Hiked that same trail last year with a friend from MIchigan, both of us worked in the Park for one of the Concessionaires. Love that lake, we too came across bear activity except ours was a huge footprint and bear scat....but no bear. We hiked to the middle of the bend then it started to pour rain and the sky went dark with thunderclouds so we turned back.

It was quite warm, so the water seemed like a refreshing option. Although, you are right...it was cold. I think Joey enjoyed getting washed up a little on the 5th day out there. lol I packed in lots of wipes for a "hiker bath" of sorts. haha. We both like being at camp and enjoying it. We are never in a rush to get moving. Thanks so much for watching!

Nice video. I live in the kalispell area and have hiked many of the trails but I’m still impressed every time I go there.

Thank you Nathan!!! Joey is now well entrenched into backpacking season. He left on an 8 day trip 2 days after this one and will be out a day and then on another 10 day trip. He's been on non-stop back to back trips with maybe a day or two between. Unfortunately, that doesn't give him time to work on the videos. He's accumulating quite a back log. I think he might have a bit of a break after his next trip, so maybe we'll see something new by the end of the month. :)

+Hike with Mike having snow on the ground I was prepared for at the higher elevations, but actually having snow fall from the sky, I was not. Lol. The brats were so good cooked over the fire. I’m lucky Joey doesn’t mind extra weight for good food. It was definitely an adventure! Thanks for coming along Mike!

Crazy. I started a trip there this summer July 6 from Many Glacier to Polebridge, can’t believe I just missed all this weather!

Another great adventure from you and Joey. The zero day was a smart choice especially with the weather clearing up for the the most the next day. Traversing over trails with downed trees is slow going for sure. The views! Oh they are fantastic! A photographers piece of heaven if you asked me 😉 always enjoy the adventures, thanks for bringing us along 😊💗

Thanks for coming along Gilbert. Yes...the downed trees! That was an experience right off the bat to start the morning. Not only is it slow going, but it zaps so much energy. I am so glad we made the call to hunker down with the bad weather. Not only would it have been dangerous, we would have been miserable and missed all the most epic views of the trip coming over the pass. Its funny how everything happens for a reason and things have a way of working themselves out.

Thank you Jon. It is absolutely stunning. The only place I've come across that rivals the Sierra. It is uniquely different, so it's an odd comparison, but the beauty is unreal.

Catherine Gregory I can totally see what you mean. Looks more like Banff to me than the mountains over here.. but we love our unique Sierras 🤙 I really want to go now. I don't know about bicycling down the road etc so I'll really need to figure out the logistics!

That was a tough trip on the bike for Joey, but he made it. It would be ideal to stage 2 cars if you are able.

I’m working my way backwards after discovering your channel and this one grabbed my attention. You capture the scenery very well & this vid has given me a good idea for next summer’s venture out west to visit a friend in Whitefish. Have to admit though that I fast forwarded through Joey’s flossing scene. Oh by the way, I’m pretty sure I spotted Jeremiah Johnson watching y’all in several of the segments 😉!

So sorry you could not spend the night at Hole in the Wall! Magical. Best bathroom in the park. We tried to get this same trip this summer during the first day of reservations, and all the campgrounds were booked for the whole summer by 30 minutes after reservations opened. Looks like you hit the same weather we hit in the Cutbank Creek trail.

I am bummed we didn't get to camp at Hole in the Wall, as well. Especially after I saw it! What a beautiful spot with so many waterfalls and epic scenery all around. We would have had it to ourselves, as well. However...if we would have stayed there the night we were permitted for, we wouldn't have seen much and most of it would have been spent in the tent due to the weather. I'll just have to go back. :)
