While I wear Keen daily, and the waterproof ones are terrific, once they get wet- and it happens, they do not dry fast, it may be days. BUT, you have to change your wool socks more often to help keep wet feet warmer. Thanks for the review…happy hiking. 🥰🥾🥾

Low-cut waterproof shoes are great until you step in standing water that's higher than the cut is low. In hot weather they can make feet sweat and cause soft skin and blisters. For these reasons, except for extended periods of time below freezing, I wear breathable low tops and carry Sealskinz waterproof socks for wet days. Waterproof shoes dry more slowly than breathable ones, too. Fwiw: no matter how high waterproof shoes or boots are, when wearing shorts, rain will run down your legs and into your socks and shoes. The only way to prevent this is to wear rain pants and waterproof gaiters, which makes for a sweaty hiker. Been there, done that. Another fwiw: I love my Keen waterproof boots for cold weather, climbed Mt. Katahdin in Keen Newport sandals, and threw away my Keen leather low tops right after the Hundred Mile Wilderness because the leather stretched so much that they twisted around my feet on sidehills after a couple of wet days. This was back in 2008, so the models have probably been changed or discontinued. The Newports have definitely been changed. They have a non-removable footbed now. I was able to wear orthotics in mine in 2008.

@@trytheoutdoors I have been using Altras, trying the Timps, Superiors, and finally setting on the Lone Peaks. All will take over-the-counter orthotics and my custom ones. I decided to try an ultra cushy shoe and bought a pair of Hoka Stinsons, which is the only model with a wide enough toe box for me. On Dixie's ( Homemade Wanderlust) KZbin channel, she recommended the Topo Terraventure 3 over the Lone Peaks, which had been her all-time favorites for years and thousands of miles, so I picked up a pair of those to try. They are very similar to the Lone Peaks, but she found them to be more durable. I'm tough on shoes, weighing 210+lbs. Oh, the Stinsons are comfortable, l can wear them for short miles without orthotics, but the tread doesn't grip well on wet rock slabs. I hope this helps.

came for the Keens... love hiking, they are probably too warm for my sweaty feet (except may a cold-weather hiker?🤔). Man a new shoe and you were able to hike in and out the same day!👍 But what is that awesome song ~@5:30 min mark, as you are hiking before you decide to bail... My kid loves composing music and I want to share it with her.

Those shoes look awesome! I slip and slide in every Keen shoe I’ve had. Same with a buddy of mine. I actually ate it in the Linville Gorge on some rocks and tossed my Keens after that trip. Moved to Hoka Ones and never looked back. Hope you fare better than me because they sure do look amazing.

Welcome back to WV. I have the same problem in trying to find shoes that are wide enough especially since very few are offered in a wider width.

I've found that most "wide" versions don't even fit me well because the heel is wider. My heels are pretty normal so I always look for "regular" size that are just roomier👍

True. Their 2008 Newport sandal that I mentioned elsewhere were much lighter than the current iteration, which has a non-removable footbed. The waterproof boots are working for me so far, though. They're my snowy cold weather hiking and snowshoeing shoe of choice down to 10 degrees F.

So are these keens true to size lengthwise, or go a half size up? Does the waterproof liner make you go a half size bigger like some other types of hiking shoes? I know keens have larger, rounder toe boxes, but not sure if they run short or long? Thanks.
@BryceNewbold

@AWolfMan75

@@BryceNewbold Thanks. So shorter? Typically hiking shoe stores will often tell you that waterproof liners can make the shoes tighter, because of the extra layer of material.

My hiking boots are double wides that I also use for work from heel to toe there exactly 12 in but I wear an 8 and 1/2 they are dead perfect for my feet and my Arch they also feel like zero drops so I have no problems there the support for my ankles are extreme because I need that mountain biking problems crashes and some falls so yeah need support for the ankles that are at least 10 in tall and snake bite proof preferred there are sections in the swamps that I hike that have cottonmouth and water snakes and riding as well but I do However light duty stuff I don't need that kind of support It looks like I'm going to be getting a new pair of shoes shortly or just a new pair of boots for my mountain biking and hiking needs And excellent video

The problem with American gear reviews and U. S. Footwear is that it has, very sadly zero correlation with UK terrain and weather conditions especially Wales, Northern England, Scotland and Ireland. Why? Its wet very wet... In the winter it's very very wet and the terrain is rough. Shoes don't cut it unless you're a psycho ultra runner. If you've ever been to Scandinavian uplands it's not too dissimilar.
