They are Guinea fowl and they make excellent watch “dogs”. Make a lot of noise if anything is out of the ordinary. My grandparents and lots of other relatives down in east Texas kept guineas around just for that purpose. Cool critters.

This is so crazy! I have lived in Celeste for many years, work in Celeste, and graduated from Celeste School! Those numbers were shocking! Living here for years I haven’t heard of much crime! It is pretty quiet in town most of the time. The average age is 28 is also so surprising! I feel like we have such an older population. The murals are newer, the community and city works very hard to keep the town clean, and from what I hear someone is going to start fixing downtown! I love our little town of Celeste❤️

Enjoy your videos! The birds are Guinea Fowl. My brother used to have them. My neighbor used to have them as well. Some said they were great "watch dogs" and they would make a loud sound when alarmed and any one walking up would set them off. They used the eggs and also would cook them, if you could catch them. LOL

Nice to see Audrey back again. She makes a great addition to the channel and provides great commentary. Also, Audie Murphy is the only soldier I know that portrayed himself in an autobiographical movie. It's tragic that he passed away in a plane crash. I definitely recommend anyone who hasn't seen the movie "To Hell and Back" to go watch it.

It’s crazy that this video was recommended to me, but I actually go to school in Celeste(live outside of city limits). The Seniors in art class paint a new mural every year. We just made the new Audi Murphy memorial recently, and I helped make the metal frame in Ag. (I barely did anything… just wanted to say I did.) Kinda weird to hear it get called a forgotten town thought I guess it kinda is in a sense.

Let me first say. Thank God you got me back home to Texas. LoL now i can watch this a couple more times and get more homesick. Great to see your daughter with you again haven’t seen her in a little while on the channel so hello. Those numbers are really strange indeed. I’m sure there’s a reason I just don’t know it. Those wet Guinea fowl or just Guineas we call em best watch dog ever. Nothing comes round that they don’t really cut a shine. LoL and loud. I love these towns and you know you’re in small town Texas when you see red brick in downtown or the square. Reminds me of the Nanci Griffith song spin on an old red brick floor, about the bar that it’s floor was made of red bricks from the downtown area. LoL course her being a Texas girl would know about that. Sorry she’s gone. Great job on a great video Joe appreciate it and appreciate seeing some blue skies and sunshine. Safe travels my friend. Celeste is about 60 miles from Dallas. That’s kind of a long drive for a daily commute but not bad if you mostly work from home and just need to go to Dallas for an occasional meeting (I work from home but sometimes go to meetings in downtown phoenix 35 miles away). So as metro Dallas- Fort Worth grows and expands (and housing prices in the metro area keep increasing) I’d bet a lot of these small towns will start growing as work from home people move in. My city of 275k was a small farm town 30 years ago before it became a phoenix mega suburb

Those birds you saw in a front yard are "Guinea Fowl" I believe they are native to Africa. When I was a kid my family had a few of them and kept them with the chickens, which were free range during the day. They are wonderful "watch dogs" as they make quite a noise when something is around that they aren't familiar with, like a stray dog or coyotes, etc.

Those were Guineafowl. They are known for being noisy and eating ticks, and are often kept on farms and large properties. Some say they are a living alarm system, and will work together to scare off danger. They are also known for being protective, independent, and cautious. Guineafowl are sexually monomorphic and appear to be monogamous. They have distinctive dark feathers with contrasting blue-white spots or stripes.

It ould be really beautiful with some money & decorating skills. Living in Ontario Canada that house is a steal. It would be worth over a million here even in a small town.

if this is the same daughter, I remember another vid that LS did with a couple of years ago in TX small towns towns near your TX home base . Nice of her to accompany Dear Old Dad on his vid tour . In thinking about the sex/age/education range of the town of Celeste I can only imagine that appeal of that is here is some advantage to pink collar workers in that greater metro region of Dallas / Fort Worth area .The only town that Lord Spoda has been to that I can remember with the average population was that young was a Mormon type town in the NM/ UT area . I think that particular town had the advantage of men having multiple wives . Audie Murphy was despite his slight size a great American hero who accomplished much l in WWII . Who was almost like a one man army . He suffered in his personal life because his military experiences . i did not really like his movies , but he was a great man ! Happy Trails on your second look series .

I like seeing all the Halloween decorated yards in these little Texas towns! I was watching the haunted house episode of Andy Griffith last night and was curious if you'd ever go to Mt Airy in North Carolina?

Those are Guinea hens (aka peafowl) you saw in Wolfe City, they’re beautiful birds and great at ridding your fields/house of insects AND SNAKES!

Looks like Guinea Fowls?- (we have in Australia) Lovely girl-Audrey. Great cat sightings ! I found those towns great to look at and love the abandoned beauty, also the black/white photo of its glory days. Thanks as usual Joe.

I love watching your videos. I've lived in a Village called Coldwater in Ontario, Canada for the past 29 years. Lots of history here. Downtown was very run down when we moved here but they have managed to turn decay taking over by focusing on tourists. Lots of restaurants, bank, Dr., post office, arena, bowling alley, laundromat, grocery store for 1100 people. They have an excellent business association who promote events in town far and wide. They are now building a new subdivision with plans for future growth. My message is it can be turned around

@ 19.00 those are Guinea hens or Guineafowl. The hen makes a two-syllable noise that sounds like she is saying “buckwheat, buckwheat".

Some of my family settled there in the mid 1850s. Still have relatives there. GGGrandfather buried near there in open field at Ladonia.
