I like this style of tent, here in Australia it is branded as a Dune and the sidewalls are a thinner material. I have played with the set up of this tent in store and it was so easy and what I like the best was the pull down, it was just as quick. First time here Ive sub look forward for more vids

Wow you never fail to impress. Congratulations, this is a perfect combination of functionality and design. It's by far the best looking tent I've seen. I own two Bundutops (Jeep + trailer) for basically the same reasons you chose yours. They are great, but their design is very plain. I don't mind, too much, but yours is really eye-catching! @@RubiconUnlimited Thx! I figured it out- I really wanted solid window inside mesh outside....seems like a little thing, but I found I am constantly adjusting those in my last pop up (Thule recall :( sad) for privacy, temp and view....the Free Spirit checks those boxes, and many other boxes....the ONLY issue now that concerns me is the semi-floppiness of the the tent and how it performs in high winds or even moderate winds. Would love your feedback... THANKS!

I am looking at this RTT, but badged differently. I was concerned at the movement of it (especially with kayaks etc on top of it) - the movement is from front of vehicle to back (not concerned side to side as they're supported well by the gas struts). Have you noticed this at all? Cheer in advance for your reply

My wife and I had the same problem you talked about with other RTT hard shells, specifically the ROAM Rambler. Doing the “dance” was very annoying and having to go all around and tuck, only to have the other side come out and having to redo it was enough for us to return it. Never got it out to the field and we knew it was going to be a hassle to stow away. We just ordered one of these. BTW, did you remove the red stripping on the corners of this RTT?
@RubiconUnlimited2 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, I really don't miss doing that dance. I can't imagine how bad it would be to have the soft shell RTT, packing up would be worse than a ground tent! You'll see how much quicker this one is compared to your last one 🙂 as for the red stripe, mine never came with it 🤷 but all good, because I prefer it without. Thanks for watching

if you're worried about $$$$ i highly suggest smitty bilt XL tent, the gen 2 has a better ladder and rain cover but nothing too different from gen 1 and fraction of the price of the hard shells, yes its a soft shell tent but it is one of the largest tents out there on the market with equivalent to a king size bed and it looks proper than any other tent when its fully opened. had mine for over a year with about 6-7 days camping monthly and ive yet to see an issue besides it taking 3-4 min setting up/breaking down. Hard shells do look nice on trucks as well as much easier to setup/break down if weather turns bad tho so up to you what you want!. Cheers

@@austinmcloughlin9365 planning to use it in the winter so no need to pull the trigger rn but does influence the need for the hard shell and layered fabric for condensation. I got an important question for you because Im looking to buy a rack for my JKUR and really dont see the need for the pioneer platform and the added cost is a bit ridiculous (for my needs). How do you find the 3 bar vortex holding up with the tent and awning? And last question, how is it mounted to the rack? Thanks a bunch. I also subscribed to your channel as you have a similar build Im looking to do to my jeep
@RubiconUnlimited3 жыл бұрын
Glad you asked, since I went through the same contemplation. I went with the 3 bars and don't regret it one bit, it's holding up perfectly fine. The tent attaches with metal straps to each bar like most options out there. If you went with the pioneer, you're going to face some issues trying to mount the tent. Drilling or other accessories might be required to line up the tent mounting hardware to the platform. Plus the tent would occupy most of that platform, rendering it useless. Go with the 3 bars, it makes way more sense
@MattAGamon3 жыл бұрын
I'm looking at this tent. Do you know if you can mount the tent on the car with the entry door facing either direction? Other tents have doors on both sides so this isn't an issue. Nice video either way.
@RubiconUnlimited3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can decide which side you'd like the door on. In my case one opening works fine especially with the awning on the opposite side.

I’m thinking of getting one for my bronco (when it finally arrives) - but I want to utilize the removable roof and all that - of course. I’ve got a roof rack that will allow me to still remove the front and middle roof panels, so the racks not an issue. But let me ask you - how much of a pain in the ass would it be to pull this off the roof for a day of driving topless, and then mount back up when we got back to the campsite that evening? Could 2 people take it off, and then put it back on relatively easy? Or is that a bad plan?
@RubiconUnlimited2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like an awesome plan! You'll get a better sense when you install it for the first time yourself. Not super difficult by any means, but it'll take a moment and the second hand will be good to have

Great video. Do you like the vortex bars instead of pioneer rack. I see that the tent is 140lbs. How did your last tent do with the extra weight on the bars?
@RubiconUnlimited3 жыл бұрын
Super easy to bolt it up to the bars vs the pioneer. Ive heard of people having to modify the pioneer to get a tent on (depending on application) the 3 bars have been holding up well! No issues whatsoever

Great video, love the detail and it's well shot/edited. I'm curious, as a tall guy (6'4") would I be able to sleep length-wise in this tent? The specs on their website say it's 80", but what I've found with almost every RTT is that it's usually shorter than that in reality. I know I could always sleep diagonally, but then that doesn't allow for my wife to travel with me (the few times I can convince her). Thanks!
