BACKSTAGE PASS with Lia Chang: Celebrate Sidney Poitier Day on Feb. 20
Black creatives have played a pivotal role in shaping cultural movements and sparking conversations around social and political issues. Join the Black creative community, as WE gather to celebrate and honor, the legacy and leadership, of Black creativity. In today’s world, it is crucial to recognize, celebrate, and uplift, Black creativity. We should support, and engage, with Black artists, writers, musicians, dancers, filmmakers, and other creatives, both historically, and in contemporary times. By doing so, we not only honor their contributions, but also gain a deeper understanding of, the Black experience, and the diverse tapestry, of human creativity. Sidney Poitier Day, is an annual celebration, honoring the legacy and leadership, of Black MALE-identifying creatives, on the birthday of Sidney Poitier, the trailblazing actor, director, and producer, who broke the colour barrier in the American motion picture industry, by becoming the first African American, to win an Academy Award, for best actor, and who redefined roles for African Americans, by rejecting parts that were based on racial stereotypes. Join us for our Sidney Poitier Day Birthday celebration on February 20th by posting images of Black male-identifying creatives on social media on February 20th Using #sidneypoitierday for a listing of Black creative institutions across America visit Project1voice.org Happy Sidney Poitier Day!!
