I’m pretty sure it’s very heavily implied by the show if not outright said that Noir’s imaginary critter friends were directly caused by the brain damage received when fighting soldier boy. He didn’t have those guys in his head since birth.

When you think about how Black Noir became the face of Vought after Soldier Boy's departure and he fully and willingly handed off that fame to the young Homelander, guiding and protecting HL all the while and becoming the closest thing HL had to an older brother/father figure... it just makes that one moment in season 3 hit even harder.

Most of the sups wanted to be heroes for good intentions. But the trauma they recieved in their childhood (homelander with the researchers who made him suffer all over the years), their personnality (the deep with his fear of being the useless member of the Seven) or even the corruption of being a hero (A-train with his determination of being the fastest man of the world) makes them into a bunch of trashy people who you need to get away to.

I have this theory that the main seven represent the 7 deadly sins: Homelander - pride Starlight - greed (she wanted to be a part of the seven so bad she agreed to...) A-train - gluttony (comp V) Deep - lust Stormfront - wrath Noir - envy (of solderboy) Maeve - sloth (many times she did nothing when she could help)
