I personally do not like Esme at the moment, -BUT- in saying that, I see she obviously is struggling with something so I don't overly hate her.

Charlotte Spiden same 😂 all season all I could say everytime esme opened her mouth was "bitch...." But in the last few episodes, when she suddenly turns psychotic, I definitely understood that there was more wrong. Because throughout all 4 seasons, with Esme, I saw myself in her, and I have Borderline Personality Disorder, and all those little things, manipulating someone into staying, being impulsive, sudden mood change, etc etc all the crazy stuff she did is a severe case of BPD, she is a danger to herself and everyone around her at that point. I genuinely hope that next season they'll explore her mental health and the root(which is probably her mom) a lot more. Though right now I still don't really like her, but I also don't want people to take the bitch out of her because thats just her :')

She likely has BPD. A diagnosis, therapy, and potentially medication could help her tremendously. If Degrassi's writers are responsible, which I believe they often can be, then they'll paint Esme in a more empathetic light next season, since she's definitely getting held back.

I don't want them to turn her into a nice girl..although that's what the show always does. I do agree that she probably has BPD, which would be great for the show to explore since they haven't covered it yet (missed one opportunity with Fiona)

SomeonesReviews i also think she has BPD, I have it, and when I was watching all I could think was "holy shit this is me." Okay, maybe severe, a lot less severe as she is, but I really really genuinly hope they'll explore the BPD journey on trying to get better, and talking about the roots, which will probably be her mother, etc etc, i'm really excited for an Esme storyline, because she'll definitely come back, considering she didn't graduate and had a mental breakdown, and we as the audience never got to see her side.

WolfGuy I loved and hated her character. I kind of wish they took her out in someway. I felt like degrassi was afraid to "go there" for Next Class. I feel like they were afraid of tragedy. They had the perfect chance to take her out on that camping episode.

Esme is a mixture of Eli and Zoe when we got introduced to them. We're all gonna end up loving her by the time she's graduates, I'm calling it. Also, it's pretty clear that she's bipolar.

may fl0wers I think she has BPD actually. Borderline Personality Disorder, the fear of being abandoned and changing your personality, hurting others or hurting yourself to make sure you aren't alone. Her relationship Miles and Zig were both examples of that.

I never realized the resemblance to Eli. Only comparison I saw people making (but that back in season 1) was with Imogen. I hope she becomes a more pleasant character like Eli cause even though she has interesting storylines, she is that type of character you like to watch the storylines for the drama but you can be hating her at the same time. And I don't know if it's because I already knew about their mental illnesses or because they were more hurting themselves than manipulating others and hurting others but I loved Craig and Eli at those points, so I should be liking Esme better, I guess. I did remember of Jay though when I saw people saying that she is a great manipulator cause honestly he was way better at that, Esme only seems to work with not so smart or really vulnerable people. But I think that's the only thing they have in common. Jay seemed more like a sociopath at the beginning sometimes, if he had to have any mental illness.

I'd love to help with the Degrassi blogging. I've been a superfan of Degrassi since middle school. Since Emma had the very first episode of Next Gen and went back and found all of the Degrassi High episodes and such with Snake, Spike, Joey, etc. I'm going on 30 and still watching this and every season makes me relive my own life in some way haha. the esme-eli comparison is so interesting cuz their behavior is very similar but the fandom was crazy for/loved eli, and yet hates esme (majority- i know some people love her). it's weird how certain behaviors are more accepted from males on this show

I think people like Eli because you actually got to see an amazing human inside of him, just being masked with the crazy things he did. With Esme, we have seen her to crazy things from the beginning and have less time to see what she is like when she is herself, and not mentally unstable. Degrassi Fans have got to be the least sexist viewers of all time if they like the stories, so I personally don't think its a gender thing.

Jade Sham I think it had nothing to do with genders. Everyone loved Eli cuz you could see he had a mental disorder however he was nice to everyone, people actually loved him, he was there for everyone, he stood up to bullies, etc. but I hated esme cuz she was the rudest person to begin with, she hated on shay for no reason, she laughed and humiliated her for the "accident" and she just made everyone's life a hard time. I get it was a mental condition but I still hated her.

Kiko Mills hmmm, half half, Esme is more extreme, I think, and so do a few other people, that she has BPD, borderline personality disorder. It's really subtle at first, but in season 4 it's suddenly full blown psychotic episodes and mood changes and impulses. Yeah she and Zoe are very similar in some aspects, but Zoe had things under control a lot of the times and never had any real mental health problems, with Esme it's really really obvious (faking self harm to get Miles to say, saying she'll kill herself one too many times to get Zig to stay etc etc)

Can I just say that Degrassi has gone to shit. I've watched all the seasons multiple times and was fully committed to watching this show to the end but honestly this latest season is a real let down and I don't think I can watch anymore. The whole of next class in general. When I heard Netflix had taken up the show I thought "awesome, now it can be even more explicit and realistic and not worry about ratings" but instead of becoming edgier it now just feels like a PC sandwich getting shoved down my throat. All the characters are annoying, unrealistic and change their minds every two seconds. It used to show situations any teenager could fall into and had lil morals every two episodes but now it feels like every second their trying to teach me a lesson like a five year old. Don't be sexist, don't be racist, don't be homophobic ect. I know all that. This show is for teenagers and we already know those basics. The character arch and development used to be nuanced but now characters feel as though they're going backwards all the time. Anyway just my ten cents. Wonder if anyone agrees.

I agree with you dankest sleeve, yaels identity crisis was so confusing, she threw on a vest and took off her wig and called herself a "they" I don't get it. I'm don't really know much about the LGBT community but that storyline was awful cuz I didn't get it. I also hated this season cuz degrassi was afraid to "go there". Honestly I wish they killed off esme to show that she was reaaaally mentally disturbed. She had so many opportunities to be taken out. Especially when they went camping, after hearing maya and zig talk she could have just taken herself out. But noooo there's not enough episodes to stir up some drama. I'm glad they didn't kill maya off but I wish they did more with esme. I also got confused when they said it was esme who did the bomb threats, it didn't make sense. I also wished that they didn't have lola abort her baby last season cuz it would have been a great storyline. I'm sorry for the rant. This season just really triggered me
