Backup Water Tank No Electricity

One of the biggest downsides of having a typical backup water system is that you need to have a separate tank inline and then have a pump supply the house. This uses a lot of electricity especially if you have the backup tank permanently cycling its water as is ideal. In this video we are going to show you an innovative way to have a backup water supply with no electricity and virtually no maintenance required. Or at least that was the plan, we ended up with quite a few snags along the way. So now this will be a video showing we learned in the process and definitely found a lot of things to look out for when doing this as a DIY installation.

hi, your tank is installed on the low pressure side of the pressure regulating valve. You can increase that pressure regulating valve to say 5 bar. That may increase the number of flushes. Also what air pressure did you pump the tank before you allowed it to fill up ?

You are correct, in the later videos it is moved. Unfortunately I only have 2.3bar incoming pressure before the valve. Played around with the pressure and found that at 0.7bar we got the most water with the low incoming pressure.

nice setup, im having a flow issue the incoming pressure im getting from municipal supply is around 40psi but GPM is low pressure drop signifantly when when 2 people having a shower or using a washing machine, im trying to avoid booster pump whenever possible .. im thinking of installing a similar setup like yours minus the check valve, do you think it will work or do i need auto shut off valve? Thanks

Hi, the Check valve is essential as otherwise, the water pressure will just drop with the incoming lines pressure. If the problem is just a constant low pressure a tank won't help as it can't generate pressure it can only store it.

is it possible to use an IBF Flow Tank (1000l) Elevated and connect it to this pressure tank (12l) so that it serves as a backup when there is no water ?

These tanks will only buffer the pressure you have, so ideally you want over 5 bar. It would work as a buffer but will only hold a very small amount of water if it is a 12L tank on a gravity feed.

Hi, The manufacturer started selling the tanks for this use after we made the video. They seem to think it should work well.

It is basically similar concept as a RO water tank, it is a pretty great idea. Specially if there is a power outage for well water
