Must be one of them OSHA ladders that you can stand on top step. Yep we all have done it hundred of times. Our plumbing shop purchased a few 7' stepladders to use on some drop ceilings that are only 7'7" off floor. Our safety department wanted us to wear safety harness and tie off every time our feet were on 4th rung from floor. Told them hundred and one times that in most drop ceilings there is no place to attach safety harness.

@@markchidester6239 exactly. Some college educated people have no common sense or understanding. Great nice people but hard to deal with. How did you come up with the size of panel to use? How did you come up with 125amp service?
@rupe533 жыл бұрын
You do a load calculation and question the customer on what they want to (eventually) install. I'd guess his numbers came in at 8 circuits with well under 100 amps but he's allowing for future expansion. (12 circuits with 125 amps) The price of going "over-kill" will only be a few hundred more than being on the money... and you wont have to tear it all out later when needs change. (where will I plug in my electric car?) What's an extra $200 on a $5k budget? Peanuts!

great videos man, I love all the info and tips as well as the code references! I've asked a few mechanics I've worked with how current transformers work; and no one seems to really know much more than installing. Are they buck/boost transformers that cancel out to provide a percentage of the input current? Also, while you're going over large runs with open space above the ceiling like in this garage, is it a personal preference to not use fish sticks or have you just never tried it? it makes pulling long runs 1000 times easier with tall ceilings like that for me at least!
@ElectricianU3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! To your fish sticks question : it can be more time consuming to use them depending on distance needed to travel from entry point to termination point. Transformer: we have a video that covers this. Not this explicitly. But transformers in general: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qomzqmeFepx0pqc

Dustin, I love watching your videos. I myself am a JW in Colorado and started back in 2010, and am actually working on my MW here with the intentions to move to Texas in the near future in the SA area. I love when you do your cut outs for {Code} because I get to "challenge" your interpretation of the of code purely as a way to further my understanding of the NEC. Why is it when you did this, video did you elect to refrain from using CJ6's as a strapping method on this build? I'm guessing it was a cost related issue...? If possible I would love to get an idea for the differences between TX and CO and just gain a better understanding of Texas requirements

If I mounted a panel that had a drop ceiling or attic above it would run up a piece of 1" conduit that can be used for further circuits. Never got a chance to install a 82 or 84 circuit panel before I retired but did install a lot of 42 circuit panels with bolt on breakers in commercial sites. Was talking to an electrician this morning. He had to go to a supply house & 2 home dumps just to get material for a residential 200 amp service. Hard to believe that supply chain is still affected by pandemic.

Code book question for fellow electricians. None of us can find an answer to say yes or no. So hoping someone can help the debate. Are you allowed to alter a receptacle faceplate with a holesaw to allow low voltage wires to pass through? Closest we can find on the subject is 406.6 saying a cover needs to fully cover openings. So I think this is saying no, not allowed. Any inputs please?

you're allowed to mount panels that high!? I thought in residential it all had to be at wheelchair height?
@rupe533 жыл бұрын
I think that was one of the reasons he read the code on "if a breaker was used as a switch" the height would be different. I think you will also find exceptions to the wheel chair height in buildings that are not ADA compatible. Most private homes have steps / stairs and would be exempt. OTOH, in new construction they may have a certain number of first floor condo / apartment units that ARE compliant with ADA all the way through, switches / outlets included.
