I’ve kept chickens since I was a kid so I’m so happy to see you make chicken content!😆 I will say, I’ve learned that the best way to prevent an aggressive rooster is just to leave them alone from chick to adult, the more you handle them, the more that will tend to show aggression. Another thing is the dance that he does with the hens is basically just him trying to impress the girls, it’s a mating dance.

You are a super mom, a super plant mom and a super chicken mom....wow! I am indeed impressed since I've never raised chickens at all. It's amazing what goes into making those chickees happy :)) Those eggs probably taste amazing!

I’ve raised bantam chickens and my rooster, Hector, was my favorite! As a teacher I took him to classes to talk about chickens. He learned to step into a bird harness so I could take him outside to walk around and poop. In the coop with the hens, he was the alpha. With me, I was the alpha and he loved me. ❤️

Thank you for this! 🙌🏽 I've been casually considering getting hens off and on since 2020, but realistically seeing how much work they are is really helpful! Maybe in another season, but definitely not for me right now.

wow youre truly so knowledgable when it comes to chickens, and things you enjoy in general!! i was vegan for 9 years and have recently started eating organic eggs and i had no clue just how much things there are to know about chickens! Occasionally have had some of my housemates regular eggs free range eggs and i noticed straight away how much harder my eggs were to crack and have always wondered what it meant. Another great video Harli!

I've had chickens for just over 5 years now and have been lucky enough to avoid major issues. I've lost a few chickens, one of which was recently attacked by the dog of a neighbor 3 houses down :(. Anyways, thank you so much for this video. It makes me feel less crazy for the lengths I go to for the happiness of my little babies and I'll be sure to bookmark this for later reference!

Loved this video Harli! I just got chickens again this spring after not keeping them for a while. Had them for about 20 years before though. LOVE them. My first rooster was a silkie and he was SO mean. My mother in law dubbed him “Lucifer” and the name stuck. I loved watching him take care of the flock. 💕 I agree, the bigger roos scare me a bit! Right now I have 11 hens and absolutely love keeping them. They just started to lay and it’s so exciting to check the nest boxes every day. Like Christmas morning as a kid😂

Love your coop! Also the color of the egg completely depends on what the chickens are eating! I used to give my chickens a mash made of wheat, barley, peas, and sunflower seeds. And I was concerned when the egg yolk was very pale, but when I switched feed to a corn based mash their yolk completely changed into this beautiful dark yellow. And the color does not affect the health benefits btw.

A coworker of mine has some dwarf rabbits and told me he uses coco coir instead of wood shavings. Apparently it absorbs smells much better and when I saw you with your bandana in the dust cloud, I thought it is perhaps not as messy too! By the way, saying that I am wondering, couldn't you spray down the bedding with water a bit to minimize dusting as you change it? Lots of love to you and your chicks! ❤

I’ve had chickens in the past and have struggled in the winter to keep them warm because I only had a few chickens like you do. I live in upstate New York and I struggled with their combs getting frost bite. We tried a few things with no results. I would have to winter them at my mom’s because there were more chickens there to stay warmer. Can you give me any pointers?
@HarliG2 ай бұрын
Hey! I don't know much about living somewhere with humidity which I assume is why that was a big problem for you there. I live in one of the driest states & although we often have below 0 winters that's not an issue I've ever had. The only thing I can suggest is maybe getting breeds with smaller combs, like Ameraucanas or Brahmas maybe?
