Love your yard I'm filling my pots have 100 petunias I grew from seed. They got all mixed up oh well. Planting seeds dahlias and have tubers. Have 10 amaryllis to harden off then the sun. I have amarysillis seeds that sprouted in water my experiment. I try if they live I'm happy. I have bad asthma so I wear a kn 95 mask when mixing dusty soil. And thanks for all the help you gave me this past winter😊. Oh my heart hibiscus are growing fast. Midnight marvel fastest grower. 2nd year.

Hello Bill, What I am going to tell you..........doesn't seem correct, but it is. If you know that a frost is predicted, water your plants the evening before the frost. Doing this protect the roots. Dry soil gets colder than wet soil. This winter here in California zone 9b, we had 5 months of mostly frost, it was very strange. I normally cover and uncover my plants during frosts (like 3 to 4 weeks). This year I told myself whatever survives........I have a few sad looking plants. I put most of my tropicals in my garage for the winter, but 5 months in the garage was hard on them. After putting my plants outdoors, I lost my 2 vanda orchids, I plan on trying 2 more. Have a blessed day, we are alive and well.......even if are plants don't look so great. 😉

I hope the plants affected by frost pull through for you. We are having a bumpy start out here in BC as well. We finally got to warm enough temps to start hardening off my tropicals but it went to 'unseasonably hot' and I had to keep them inside. Then that let up and it poured rain for days, had to siphon water out the pots with a turkey baster and hope the roots didn't rot. I hate the unpredictable weather that seems to be our new reality.

Oh My Goodness! it's so frustrating. climate change is real... i hate calling it global warming because it doesn't always feel like it's warming...lol...but the swings in temps and the erratic extreme weather is undeniable. i hope things level off for you, and your plants can thrive soon on their summer vacation outside.... as for my plants... everything is still alive thank goodness... a little stressed out.... last week we had the frosts and this week have been hot with 30+ degree days... just gotta roll with it :)

This winter was a swine. I even lost a 30 year old Euphorbia Stygiana, the far more exotic version of the honey spurge, Euphorbia Mellifera. My nanas were all knocked to the ground and now have to start over as the new shoots emerge. I lost lemon trees, avocados and so many others that I can generally sneak through a winter right by a warm wall. It's heartbreaking, but at least we get to put new stuff in, and enjoy the change. I was just thinking Bill, I've subscribed to your channel since you sliced the base of the Ensete Maurellii to make four new plants. That was a few years back for sure.
@PlantzNThings Жыл бұрын
i like your outlook. it can be so frustrating... but rolling with it and starting new is also fun :) ah Yes the ensete propagation! those 4 sections make like 400 plants...lol... did you attempt propagation? and how did it go?
@Flora-Interior Жыл бұрын
Totally understandable about reducing the amount of tropicals you put in thw ground each year... Ive been doing that myself as well... They require certain care, that gets exhausting But having said that... I just got a new rype of colocasia corm today 🤣🤣🤣😅
@PlantzNThings Жыл бұрын
lol... it's a vicious circle... the tropicals add such a nice vibe to the garden. what variety of Colocasia did you get?

What kind of fertilizer do you give the Monkey Puzzle tree? I'm in zone 3 and growing it as an indoor hobby plant, but I found a couple of mine turning brown and dying. I'm in the same boat with my tropicals. I have several elephant ears, Thailand Giant and Borneo Giant (my favorites), but overwintering is very stressful. I love the plants, but lack the space, light and proper temperatures.

Dang how you keep the grass so nice?
@PlantzNThings Жыл бұрын
Thank you...lol it usually gets mowed a couple of times per week. It also gets watered during dry periods... fertilizer 3 times a year

What about clear fishing line for the clematis to cling to, would that work?
@PlantzNThings Жыл бұрын
i was thinking about that... i was worried that it might be too thin and cut the plant as it grows and becomes heavier... but i might try it... i was also thinking of a black clothes line wire.
