I love this kind of community and what I love about that the most is what that one guy say that this community is a little bit of a low commitment and has it's balance.. Because that could be really helpful to be in community with commitment but not too strict or too stiff/stick to the schedules or regulations.

For me, the ideas in kzbin.infoUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

I enjoyed this thoroughly... I attended a workshop at an Earth Day festival in Dallas several yrs ago and Lina was one of the organizers and presenters. It is so validating and encouraging to see she is living the values and participating in the type of community that she spoke about. Gives me hope as I consider something like this hopefully in WA state in a couple years.

This is basically how a suburb with cookouts, dinners, childcare, etc., always used to work as well as very similar to how rural communities of related families work, lol. Folks have become so deracinated, so insular, so alienated, they have forgotten our past as a people. This is very normal.

@@df2mobile oh geez I'm actually really sorry! I heard that word used once by a really far-right person. Do they pay someone to come and clean the shared space every few days? I could see that being a problem. I assume they have a shared fund to replace items that break or need work. I could see that if they share main house chores some will do better more thorough jobs than others which could be a source of contention.

How did you get the community started. Would love to have one in our community. It is so difficult here in California . So, many people say not in our back yard. It is so frustrating. I am born and raised in California and my husband is from the south and he tells me all the time that people in California are not friendly. And he is right.

I've lived and traveled to many intentional communities over 6 years and I like their model here. My main concern is legality. If it's not 100% legal for them to live that way there all it could take is one neighbor complaining and it could all crumble. I like that they're engaging their neighbors, but that's not enough security for me. Sadly the legality of tiny house living has delayed me living in one.

Are Canadienne Geese & Ducks involved in the legality of communal living?. If not, why don't they have any regulation?. The Ducks tho~ do operate according to the NAP.

I do wonder about people like this, on the surface they seem to have a good life, they have thought about what is important and seem to be living their best lives. But when you look a bit deeper, they seem stressed, bags under their eyes, not as healthy as you would think they should be. Why? Is it because they spend too much time thinking? Too much time trying to convince everyone else that they have the answers instead of just enjoying life? Who knows.

So since this on your property how are your taxes handled? Since the tiny homes are not on a slab, are they considered like sheds?
@nunyabusiness5374 жыл бұрын
No doubt. I think that everyone should have to hold public office and do it for free so that way the job would be done right instead of the officials using our country as their own private piggy bank

Beautiful story, great video production! I'm in Portland, too, and have known of [and met a time or two] Lina Menard. I know she was previously in another tiny house community in the Cully Neighborhood. So nice to see this new place that she and her partner and friends have created! It's really great, and so inspiring to those of us who would like to do something similar. Also great is that the City Commissioners finally made allowances for this type of creative housing arrangement, by relaxing the zoning [and even more relaxing in the past year or so, as the housing crisis has deepened and more people are needing to live in trailers on residential, inner city lots]. If only Portland real estate hadn't become so expensive that it's beyond the reach for many of us. I'll keep praying that more will be done to help bridge the gap between those who can and those who cannot afford adequate shelter. Thanks to Lina and her community partners for participating in sharing this truly inspiring lifestyle they've all created, at 'Going Places.

This is a great concept, would love to see it happen around the country....It would be great in my small town in Nebraska....A 21st century version of the '70s era commune's...(I know of an ideal property about 3 miles north of the city that would be perfect for such a setup, buzz me and will send you the Google Maps photo with location data, btw this property has been on the market a very long time..)

...this is not an intentional community....this is just a roommate situation with and even larger amount of space and larger foot print than your average roommate set up. all they talked about was all the things roommates have to deal with. except these people get an exceptionally large amount of space, an individual bathroom for each person and a kitchen set up for each person. im sorry but sharing a washer & and dryer and choosing to use the big kitchen instead of the kitchens in the tiny homes does not make this an intentional community. i cant figure out why anyone thought this was special. the only special part is that this home has two ADU in the backyard instead of one. an ADU is an accessory dwelling unit.
@TinyHouseExpedition4 жыл бұрын
They created community guidelines around shared values, show in their consensus decision making, conflict/resolution procedures, regular structured meetings and scheduled shared meals with rotating cooking duties, etc. This level of cooperation and planning is not common in roommate situations for many many folks. From our POV, they are a true cohousing community. Defined as a semi-communal housing consisting of a cluster of private homes and a shared community space. Residents share ownership, expenses, and resources like tools and in tasks, such as household repairs.

@ Bethany Day - To understand you just need to take a hard look at society today... Most people are rather anti-social and won't know their neighbors, let alone co-operate with them for any common goals and share any resources they don't have to... There are the occasional exceptions but actual communal living outside of families and dormitories is just not the norm these days for most people... Besides, being on the same property is not the same as sharing a room or apartment. So this is not a roommate situation, each of them are in their own separate home and yes, an ADU is still a separate home! Being roommates also doesn't mean you need to co-operate much beyond sharing the rent or have any common goals. Roommates can simply share a room or apartment just because it's more affordable that way and lead completely separate lives otherwise. It's not always the case that roommates will be friends or have any real reason to form a communal living situation beyond the basics of sharing the home. But an intentional community is by definition a planned residential community designed from the start to have a high degree of social cohesion and teamwork. It just doesn't really matter to an intentional community whether the property is privately owned by one or co-owned and shared by the group. But if that was ever a issue, depending on local rules it is possible for a ADU to become separately owned. Some places even allow the creation of micro-communities with up to 7 homes on the same lot but otherwise a large enough lot can also be sub-divided into smaller lots and each sold to a different owner. Options like the condominium process can allow all buildings on a property to be separately owned. So just research what's allowed in your area...
@bethanyday34714 жыл бұрын
@@TinyHouseExpedition if you, and any one else, doesn't think that those things are necessary parts of living with other human beings (aka roomates) then you likely shouldn't be living with other human beings. i also dont believe for a moment that the couple (the people who actually own everything there, i highly doubt they would consider any of their roommates to have shared ownership of their 3 homes) there would not be more than happy to kick those two girls out the moment they felt they "needed to move on."
