That's a great dish to make when you have guests staying over. You can make it ahead, then just warm it in the oven while the coffee is brewing. Then breakfast is served for a hungry crowd without much fussing. Reminds me a little of French Toast Casserole, which is also a favorite in my household. Will try this out too.

Yet again a great use up stale bread recipe. I purchased smoked bacon yesterday and cheese bread. One was going into freezer. Not now. Going to make later today. Will not be squashing down just dumping on. Love your phases. Makes my day to have laughter, a new or improved recipe to create and pleasure of seeing my spouse enjoying good foods. Earlier today I watched the video of this amazing recipe and this afternoon I have made it. This time I used sliced wholemeal bread which was a few days old I used the four eggs a can of carnation milk adding grated carrot onion and cheese making it more vegetarian. It was excellent much tasty than I expected I put cheese and tomato slices on the top very tasty

As someone who makes savory French toast from time to time... this is right up my alley. And yes, for the savory French Toast, I just do my eggs with some heavy cream, and then my savory spices beaten into them. I'll even sometimes take a bit of finely shredded cheese and sprinkle it onto the bread after I've flipped it once, and then I'll flip it back again to get a nice crust on it. Definitely better to go with a nice, robust, rustic loaf of bread for that one!

My mum used to do something similar for us when we were kids, stale bread, cheese ends 😊 that was frugal cooking. Making something out of nothing, just like bubble and squeak 😊 we never turned our noses up at any of those kind of meals.🇬🇧🥰 I live on my own , i will reduce the amounts but maybe make 2 and see how it freezes. Cook once eat twice saves time and money.🥰🇬🇧

Like Churchill the dog says, "Oh Yes!" Cracking recipe & you can add all sorts to it. We started a tradition of something really similar with Christmas or Sunday lunch leftovers. You can swap out (or add to) the bacon with chicken, ham or turkey. It reaches peak with me if I have left over stuffing or a box of stuffing mix kicking about. The herby flavour of stuffing is great & the mix pads it out a bit too. Have been known to fry slices of the savoury bread pudding up as part of a cooked breakfast. Its like an extra good version of French toast. Cracking recipe as always sir.

@@1960gal Ah I have stage 3 kidney disease so got to watch the salt and the fats and watch for the blood thinners to boot, but I have to eat so may as well eat something I like. Yes sometimes I suffer a little for it but I don't go mad sort of a reduced portion and try (I say try) eat a few raw carrots broccoli etc to offset it a bit. But like the above I would hate to be laid waiting to pop off the mortal coil thinking jeez I wish I had tried a bit of bacon, cheese and bread pudding 🤣.
