First, don't apply the Goo-Gone with a paper towel. It just stays in the paper towel. Pour it right onto the adhesive and smear it with your fingers (it won't hurt your skin). Let it sit a bit, then start rubbing it off. Second, take the darn straw off the WD-40 can and spray it straight on! The stupid straw is to get the stuff into tiny places. Jeez.

As has been mentioned elsewhere here, lighter fluid is good for removing tape residue. The magic effective component of lighter fluid is naptha, and it does work great for getting sticky tape gunk off. I would be careful using it on a painted surface and try it in an inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn't damage anything. I believe Goo One used to contain naptha, and it worked a treat at that time, but then they changed the formula to something less toxic, but also much less effective. I haven't bothered with it since.

have been using Vaseline melted to semi liquid form for years now on vehicles, melt it down and paint it on leave for a day and the gunk will scrape off with your finger nail, the key is allowing the petroleum in the Vaseline to soak in and do its job, its a winner every time. A heat gun on low setting for a minute or so will soften the adhesive and make it significantly easier to remove with either method. With the right amount of heat, most stickers will peel right off, then use Googone or WD40 to clean up what little residue is left. Just be really careful with the heat if the surface is a softer plastic.

After all these years and debate over what to use to remove sticker adhesive I still can't believe no one ever mentions lighter fluid. Plain Zippo type lighter fluid will loosen it up without melting it like Goo Gone, and won't leave oil all over everything that's hard to clean off. The great thing about lighter fluid is that it is safe to use on plastic and car clear coats(won't fog plastic). Just squirt some on the label or adhesive thoroughly. Then you can either wipe of with a paper towel or if the adhesive is thicker you can use a non-marring plastic tool to scrape off excess. Clean up with soap and water. Much better than any solvent. If you've ever shopped at TJ Maxx and tried to get the stickers off any houseware products you'll thank me.

First of all, using Goo Gone on a vertical surface is virtually impossible, you can't let it sit long enough to affect the adhesive; it works best when left to soak for awhile. I have had exceptional luck with Goof Off, both the green stripe label for superglues and the regular black stripe label for other gooey stuff in removing ancient bumper stickers and foam trim tape from my truck. Both solvents do dry up fast and it does work better when wetter. You do have to rotate the paper towel frequently to keep a fresh part against the sticky stuff, otherwise it will just tend to swirl it around and smear it back on there. I use a Blue Ridge razor blade paint scraper at a very flat angle to gently slide under the old sticker and shave it right off (No, I haven't ever scratched my paint! Just keep it very flat with even pressure on the surface and watch the blade corners. Work slow and steady), and then use the Goof Off. Use this stuff outside or with really good ventilation; the fumes will rot your brain! Doesn't hurt the paint at all. Recently used it to remove the foam trim tape from a set of plastic rain guards that finally cracked and broke off. 19 year old dead, dry, crunchy foam trim tape. That was exciting. Took longer than the old bumper stickers, but Goof Off and the scraper still worked well. I am interested to try the WD-40 and see how it compares to the Goof Off on the bumper stickers though. Thanks for the great video!

I used the volume control and turned it off, it’s a neat little button that solves such problems. No music is always best, people worry too much about adding music, when none is best. Even with no talking, one can just write words and demonstrate. People also complain about “robot voice” (but would happily listen to fake Stephen Hawking and the computer voice they always played when they’d wheel him out to the masses... dental work and biometrics don’t lie, but those liars making bank off his name sure did), but they fail to realize people may have speech issues; be mute, have an accent they’d equally complain about, or the language isn’t their native tongue and they’d complain about that, too. Some people just like to complain. Others just shush up and say thank you for the information they didn’t have to pay for.

Wait a minute... 1:00 Sorry but this is useless video, wasted my time. 🤔 I wish if you just soaked both for 5 mins, for a fair comparison and sow we can know which one is better...

I use cooking oil, butter or peanut butter. Let it sit for a day and wipe with warm soapy water. No need to rub and scrub.

what is up with all the dislikes, great video! i didnt know wd40 also removes adhesive, goo gone is overpriced af and only does 1 thing
@backyardchevy3284 жыл бұрын
Thank you🙂 its not often i get nice comments on this video either lol...my consensus is that they hate the music or that i didnt soak em...yea definitely wd40 has a lot more uses and is a better choice to try
@RetroMonkey19993 жыл бұрын
@@backyardchevy328 you literally didn't follow directions by letting it soak it! 5 minutes of doing nothing would have saved most of the time you spent rubbing. And if you're going to keep applying 1 you need to do it for the other. You know how many fish tanks an average Petco has? About 80 of just fresh..multiply that by an average of 3 (1.5"×2.5") stickers per tank, so 240 stickers- I removed all that by myself in about 2 hours with Goo Gone. It works when you give it time. Plus it's safe on way more surfaces and is no where near as toxic.

I don't think either one was better if you go by this demonstration but both products were applied incorrectly. No straw on the wd40 can and using a spray bottle for the goo gone would give the products a better chance of working with a couple minutes soak time.
@edgarc38192 жыл бұрын
That is a lot of work to remove the labels. It is very simple to remove them. All you have to do is use a good paper towel with alcohol. place the towel where the label is and let it soak the label. After a minute you can start rubbing the label.

I enjoyed the video plus the cheery music! Using WD-40 hadn't occurred to me, must give that one a shot. I will, however, remove the straw as "MegaSeeker" recommended. If you apply Goo Gone with your bare hands, make sure you wash them thoroughly afterwards (that's what I do at least). Thank you for the clip! ♥♥♥

If you left it for 5 minutes like it stated on the instructions, the results would be different. There was nothing stopping you from pausing the camera and then resuming after the 5 minutes.

As far as the Goo-Gone the user didn't apply nearly enough of the product and he should've gotten the 1 in a spray bottle. I've been using this product for sometime now and it's by far the best product for removing glue or pretty much anything sticky. O'yea it's far far less greasy that any of those other products.
